St Patrick's Day parade

The annual St Patrick's Day parade has become an increasingly popular event in Sweden. This year's parade leaves Karlaplan in Stockholm at 12 o'clock on Sunday. The pipes and drums of the First Royal Engineers will lead the way as the parade makes its way to Stureplan.

Final of Melodifestivalen

Although the final of Sweden's Eurovision qualifying competition this Saturday is sold out, you can still catch the live performances at the two full dress rehearsals this weekend. The final will also be broadcast live on television on Saturday night, and the winner will represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2008.

Skansen’s Easter Celebration

To celebrate Easter, all of the houses at Skansen will be decorated and an Easter market will be held at Bollnästorget. Be sure not to miss Maundy Thursday when the children dress up as witches in accordance with an old Swedish tradition. There will also be circus performances held during the weekend in Bragehallen.

Into The Wild

Into the Wild, written and directed by Sean Penn, was a major success at the Stockholm Film Festival last November. Now the story of 22-year-old Christopher McCandless who leaves his privileged lifestyle behind to venture into the wildness is playing at Biografen Sture. The movie is based on the prize winning best seller of the same name by Jon Krakauer.

The works of Birgitta Källbäck and Sebastian Dahlgren (grandmother and grandson) are on display at Galleri Riddaren. This new exhibition, which includes some of Dahlgren’s photographs from New York, opens this Saturday at 1pm.

Killing Mood, The Other Flesh, and Kamikaze Queens

A rock concert with three incredible bands. Killing Mood will perform their cinematic songs with their lead signer, Belinda Kordic, who is described as a cross between Nick Cave and Nancy Sinatra.

GOTHENBURG

World Figure Skating Championships 2008

This year’s World Figure Skating Championship will be held in Gothenburg, and officially begins this Tuesday. Special guest stars such as the Synchronized Skating Team, world champions, and Crown Princess Victoria to take part in the ceremony.

Swedish International Travel & Tourism Trade Fair

The leading travel and tourism fair in Scandinavia sets up in Gothenburg this week and will be open to the public over the weekend. The fair will have representatives from over one hundred countries and attracts 50,000 visitors per year.

Letters from the New Country

This exhibition answers the question of how immigrants in Sweden look at Swedish people and their culture. Just like the Swedish emigrants to the United States, the immigrants to Sweden wrote letters home and they have been collected in a book which is the foundation for the exhibition.

BUFF 2008

Malmö’s 25th International Children and Young People’s Film Festival. The Festival was founded in 1984 with the aim of showing films that would otherwise not be screened. Each year about 100 films are shown throughout the festival with seminars and discussions in order to inspire young people to get involved in film.
