Warhol paintings stolen in Stockholm art heist

Paintings by Andy Warhol were among those stolen from the Lasse Åberg museum near Stockholm on Friday morning.

"There are at least four paintings that have been stolen," said Tommy Andersson at Uppsala police to news agency TT.
Among the stolen paintings are works by Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. The exact total value of the art stolen had not been established by Friday morning.
"I have heard several different figures, between two and five million (kronor). It is not for sure that the museum itself knows the value of the paintings, they will will have to consult market experts first," Andersson said.
The theft occurred shortly after 2am on Friday.
The police were called to the scene and completed their technical inspection of the museum at around 7.30am. No suspects had emerged and no arrests had been made by 11am on Friday.
"We are working with a wide scope and have contacted Stockholm police and the National Criminal Investigation Department (Rikskriminalen). Obviously, we can not rule out the possibility that the paintings have already left the country, so there are no limits with regard to our surveillance, Andersson said.
The Åberg Museum was founded by Swedish comic and entertainer Lasse Åberg in 2002. The museum features Åberg's vast collection of Disney artefacts as well as cartoon art from the likes of Keith Haring and Jean Michel Basquiat.
Lasse Åberg is perhaps best known for his films and characters similar to the typical roles played by Mr.Bean or Chevy Chase.
