The Local consults Djungeltrumman for tips on how best to spend this payday weekend.

FRIDAY

Balkan Beat Party

Address: Café Hängmattan, Djurgårdsgatan 13
9pm – 2am
80 kronor
Age: 18 and over
Website

Scandinavia’s largest Balkan club has expanded its remit from Oslo to Café Hängmattan in Gothenburg. Here you can spend half the night dancing around to Balkan brass, Balkan disco, electronic oompa oompa, Indian drum’n’bass, drinking songs, klezmer, Ukrainian hits, Albanian pop, turbo folk, Russian ska and Romany synthesizer funk. DJs and live acts are a staple and there is always a strong chance of some Cossack dancing. Sure to be fun.

Tonight

Guests for the evening: Vodkabeat and Calle Af Ekenstam.

Bodybeat

Address: Bliss, Magasinsgatan 3
6pm – 2am
Age: 20 and over
Website

Bliss loves house music and if you feel the same way, a visit here should be as self-evident as a hangover on Sunday morning. The sofas and tables have been reinforced for you to dance on while waving your arms in the air with your tie around your forehead. A guaranteed party.

Cheesy Not Cheesy

Address: Uppåt Framåt, Magasinsgatan 3
10pm – 2 am
40 kronor
Age: 23 and over
Website

Successful nightclub Cheesy Not Cheesy has taken back the right to have great fun at a club without sacrificing the quality of the music. Cheesier music, cheesier cheese, special beer, a luminous DJ booth and a dedicated cheese and wine bar are all on the evening’s agenda. Always packed, always fantastic.

Orgia

Address: Orgia, Storgatan 47
11pm - 5am
Free entry
Age: 23 and over
Website

Orgia is the watering hole we are all drawn to when everywhere else closes - too early as usual - and our appetite for crowds, alcohol and unexpected encounters has not yet been sated. This is where the Aveny and hipster crowds meet in an environment that is anything but relaxed, and where you have to hold on tight to your 62 kronor beer to avoid getting it right down your cleavage. The commercial techno that generally emanates from the decks is easy to enjoy.

Stearin

Address: Stearin, Tredje Långgatan 8
10pm – 2am
Free entry

Tredje Långgatan is not at all like Andra Långgatan, despite the fact that it is literally just a stone’s throw away. This is something you realize as soon as you walk through the door at Stearin. The beer is expensive, tasty and probably Italian. The people there have cut their hair and got a job. The seats have comfy covers and nobody spits moist snuff at the ceiling. Can you handle it? If you can, then come here on Friday or Saturday. From 10 o’clock onwards relatively well-known DJs play groovy but laidback house.

SATURDAY

Klubb Populär

Address: Storan, Kungsparken 1
10pm – 3am
80 kronor
Age: 18 and over
Website

Anders Christensson is the man behind the Killing Music record label and the instigator of tonight’s club at Storan. The club is known for always putting on good music and a party for the people. Christensson always makes sure there are very interesting acts on stage.

Tonight

Autumn premiere! Live performances from Nordpolen and My Darling You!

Orgia

Address: Orgia, Storgatan 47
10pm – 5am
Free entry
Age: 23 and over

In Gothenburg there is a widespread notion that the people who party on Avenyn and those of us who don’t somehow have a hard time getting along. There are even those who would content that there exists an unspoken beef between the two camps. But little Orgia is the place that confounds all preconceived notions and makes us realize that the unifying element on the nightclub scene – alcohol – even transcends the invisible border that marks the start of Avenyn.

Rumble

Address: Inferno, Viktoriagatan 3
10pm - 3am
100 kronor
Age: 20 and over
Website

Blenda Lars continues his success in some style with club Rumble at Inferno. Nowadays there is more and more hip-hop on the dancefloor, and despite all the reggae hype the party mood has not died down. It can get really packed so get there on time. An extra hour can never hurt to explore all of Inferno's many nooks and crannies. You might even find your way down to the cellar where there's often more dancing afoot.

Tonight

On the decks: UMYO (Sthlm) and the Wifebeater Love blog. MCs: the much-hyped Lorentz and M. Sakarias.

Soulastatic

Address: Pusterviksbaren, Järntorgsgatan 12
10pm – 3am
80 kronor
Age: 23 and over
Website

Every month or so Punky and friends take over Pustervik and throw the best soul party. And there is a certain something about modern, northern and crossover soul that just makes people dance and dance. You’ll struggle to find a better atmosphere!
