Frida Hyvönen

When she released her debut album Until Death Comes, Frida Hyvönen made an instant impact on the Swedish music scene and an instant impression on the music media.

She has been compared to a young Joni Mitchell and has an intensity and fragility which hints of Tori Amos. With her recently released third album Silence is wild Hyvönen deserves to be judged, and judged well, in her own right.

Frida is also playing at Stadsteatern in Gothenburg on Saturday and the Palladium in Malmö on Sunday.

Time: Monday December 1st, 8pm

The pair will release a joint album "Ready for the Flood" in January 2009 and they are in Gothenburg on Thursday to try out material and give an indication of whether they can fit their billing given they are described in some quarters as the Lennon and McCartney of the 2000s.

When We Dead Awaken - Ibsen

The Unity Theatre in Liverpool has joined forces in a international cooperation with Riksteatern and Västerbottenteater to present Henrik Ibsen's final dramatic work, When We Dead Awaken - in English.

The story follows ageing sculptor Arnold Rubek and his beautiful young wife Maja. Arnold has lost all interest in the world around him and despite his wealth, fame, and the attentions of his wife, he can find no joy in his existence.

Suddenly he is jolted out of his stupor by an unexpected reunion with Irene, a model who once posed for him and whom he idolized.

Josette Bushell-Mingo, who has worked as a director and actor with the Royal National Theatre, the RSC and the Manchester Royal Exchange, has assembled a cast of English and Swedish artists to tour Sweden as an extension of the 2008 European Capital of Culture programme. The tour ends in Lund this weekend.
