STOCKHOLM

International Documentary Film Festival

The National Museum of Ethnography hosts Stockholm's sixth International Documentary Film Festival this weekend.

This year's theme is "Humanity in the World" and features films from Korea, Israel, Palestine, Nepal, Iran and the USA.

Price: Festival pass 20 kronor and then 80/50 kronor per day/half day
Time: Thursday April 2nd - Saturday April 5th

New York Stories - Closing Down Sale!

Margaret at Vasastan book store, New York Stories, has announced an end to her "short but sweet" sojourn in the book selling business. The slow death of the neighbourhood store has persuaded this affable expat American to seek out other literary avenues.

The good news is that there is still a wealth of literature in stock and it is all on offer for knock down prices. 40 percent discounts are on offer for all those heading down to her bolthole of a bygone age on Odengatan.

Bamba Brazil – Simone Moreno with Os Lourinhos (Brazil)

Who ever said music for kids needed to be nursery rhymes and Kum Ba Yah?

Simone Moreno brings her beats from the Bahia to Kulturhuset on Saturday for a matinée performance that is sure to get those tiny feet tapping and their parents' hips swinging.

Price: 80 kronor (50 kronor for the kids)

Lee Ranaldo & Leah Singer - "iloveouyihateyou"

"iloveyouihateyou" is based on an audiovisual work by Leah Singer and Sonic Youth founder member Lee Ranaldo.

This work is an exploration of how image and sound interact, and will be staged both as a live performance and as an installation.

The exhibition also features three historic experimental films on the theme of "everyday existence" and the capacity to see the greatness in small things. The films are by Gordon Matta-Clark, Terry Fox, Nancy Holt & Robert Smithson.

GOTHENBURG

Sahara Hotnights

Rock ballads and rousing riffs as Robertsfors' finest come to Gothenburg to promote their latest album "Sparks". The album is an experimental work where the quartet pay tribute to their favourite tracks.

Sahara Hotnights have come a long way in their now almost ten years at the top and are a well established band both in Sweden and abroad.

Price: 270 kronor

Götheborg - The Swedish Ship

The Swedish East Indiaman "Götheborg" is one of the largest full-rigged wooden sailing ships in the world and is on show in her home town of Gothenburg in April.

The original East Indiaman "Götheborg" ran aground outside Sweden's west coast on September 12th 1745. Its replacement set sail on June 6th 2003 and since then has been plying the high seas promoting Sweden and all who sail with her.

Price: 100 kronor, 50 kronor for children
Time: Every Sunday in April and May, 12pm - 3pm

Chicks on Speed (GER/US/CAN)

The "Chicks" met while at art school in Munich in 1997. They started out as a spoof band and have grown into one of the darlings of the fashion world.

They can also play a bit and have retained that sense of fun that accompanied their breakthrough album in 2000, "Chicks on Speed Will Save Us All".
