Four young men appeared in court on Thursday charged with involvement in a series of gang rapes in Södertälje in eastern Sweden.

A total of seven young men between the ages of 19 and 23 are being held in custody for the rapes.

The men are believed to belong to a network of several smaller groups who have systematically raped young women and girls in the town.

Six of them have been charged and four of them stood trial in Södertälje district court on Thursday for aggravated rape, among other charges, in one of the four cases.

The girls have said the men took turns raping them while the others held them down, newspaper Länstidningen Södertälje reports.

“We have good reason to believe that several more women have been raped and we implore them to contact us,” Kia Samrell, information office at the Södertälje police department, told TT.

The case began in February when a young women reported that she had been raped by four men in an apartment in Hovsjö. Due to DNA evidence and information from various witnesses, the attack was linked to three additional unsolved rape cases in Södertälje.

One of the cases involved a woman who at the beginning of February believed she was getting a ride home, but was instead taken to a camping site where she was raped by several men.

In March last year, another young women was forced into a car in Lina and raped by five men. In the fourth case, which occurred in November 2007, a 12-year-old girl was raped by three men in an attic in Ronna.

The individual suspects have not all been involved in each rape.

"The men belong to different overlapping constellations," said Samrell.

It makes sense to shield the names of rape victims.

However

Question: Why aren't the names of the criminals considered newsworthy?
16:45 April 9, 2009 by Bender B Rodriquez
Because they sound foreign...

Man there's a lot of raping going on in Sweden. From what I've heard it's pretty easy to get a pull in Sweden, so what's with the raping? More importantly, what's with the gang raping? I can't imagine doing anything with a bunch of other blokes standing by eyeing Admiral Johnson.

Although the justice process should usually be open, in the case of rape its right that the alleged victim enjoys anonymity. However, this privelege should also be extended to the alleged rapists. I can think of few things as horrific as being raped, though being falsely accused and "named and shamed" in public for up to a year before an eventual acquital comes close in terms of damage done to someone's life and dignity.

In this particular case, I suspect the previous poster is right and that the alleged rapists aren't named in the media simply because they're not called Svensson.

I agree, being falsely accused of a crime can be devastating. Also, being acquitted of a crime also brings stigma. I recall those Duke lacrosse players that were falsely accused of rape. My thoughts on the subject is to never get yourself in a situation where you can be considered a suspect of a crime. Going to a frat party with strippers and drunk girls, not a good idea. Taking a package from a guy in Thailand who asks you to fly with it to his grandma in Stockholm, not a good idea. Handing out Ron Paul campaign literature in Missouri, not a good idea.

In this instant case the 'alleged' rapists names are censored.

Yet.

In this case the 'alleged' criminals names are printed!

"Arabzadeh Mohammad Abadi, 25, and Moayed Abedi, 24, were indicted on charges of aggravated public endangerment and aggravated threats and intimidation..."

http://www.thelocal.se/18516/20090328/

In one instance, the perpetrators names are protected... yet in the other, they are disclosed.

I SEE NO STANDARDS OF REPORTING BE ADHERED TO.

oh the hypocrisy.

There will always be anomalies in terms of when to report names and when not to. On balance, I'm not in favour of the Swedish media's policy of often not printing names when they are foreign-sounding. It hides the fact that there is a problem in that a minority among one ethnic group may account disproportionately for certain crimes in comparison to a minority among other groups.

A problem in society can't be tackled unless its acknowledged and discussed openly. I don't share the point of view that everyone has a little Nazi inside them just waiting to spring into life upon the mention of the name Hussein next to a report of a rape of a stranger.

Its tricky to address the whole issue of "stranger rape" without offending certain noisy elements (black, white, male and female), many of whom seek every opportunity to be offended, but that doesn't this shouldn't be tried.

because its right that both the victim and the accused remain a secret untii and if they are found guilty and I do believe this is how they go about it in sweden..and they are just as likely to be called svensson!!!! I agree 100% with your post up until that bit, then I lost you...

No names in general and no nationalities (except the seldom cases when the criminals are from Norway, Denmark or EU in general...). If they are from the Middle East, Africa or the Balkans the "politically correct" leftist media censors their nationalities because it leads to discussions on immigration which is a taboo subject in Sweden. If you dare to say something and criticize the immigration policy, big brother pops up with a big stamp saying "RACIST!". For the naked truth you have to look after "politically incorrect" blogs, like this one for instance: http://frianyheter.wordpress.com/ (or http://politisktinkorrekt.wordpress.com/

Solution:

take the four accused. Drop them into boilng water, in a vat prepared in the centre of Södertälje, with a microphone rigged up to record the sound of it. Show it on all Swedish TV channels simultaneously.

Afterwards, throw a big party in the town to celebrate.
11:15 April 10, 2009 by Rubbi
Wouldn't you prefer to take the guilty people rather than the accused?
14:52 April 10, 2009 by Kibiri
Locallers prefer accused Husseins instead of convicted pedophile Svenssons, any time of the day, oh yeah

I concur.

Forgive my ignorance but can you please clarify the meaning of the expression "get a pull"? I just hope you're not implying that rapists commit rape because they are unable to get sex from another source. Rapists rape not because they are sexually frustrated but because they have a very deep and violent hatred for their victims. Rape (especially violent gang rape) has nothing in common with sex between consenting adults or the agreed upon transaction between a prostitute and her customer.

Rape is not sex. Rape is an act of violence. Just so we're clear.
20:16 April 10, 2009 by Shark99 - The Great Catsby
Thanks for pointing that out MK. Doesn't rape involve sex? Or should one say intercourse? How does one describe the act properly?
20:23 April 10, 2009 by Mzungu
Not my description,taken from Dictionary.com...

Rape:

1. the unlawful compelling of a woman through physical force or duress to have sexual intercourse.

2. any act of sexual intercourse that is forced upon a person.

*pretty straight forward*
23:27 April 10, 2009 by 7
besides the definition kindly supplied by the great mzungu, you aren't seriously suggesting that the motivation to rape can stem from a motivation to want to have sex?

water torture usually involves putting people in water? is it bathing?

I can´t believe that our societies are not able and our politicians are not willing(!!!) to defend our girls against that scum.

In our shameful capital-city Berlin in 2008 public prosecutor Mr. Roman Reusch told us that ca. 80 Percent of his youth-intensive-criminals are not ethnic germans. In Words "eighty percent!!!!!!!".

The result? The local government of Berlin forbid him to continue telling the truth!!!

Yes! They are not fighting against the criminals. They gave a muzzle to the public prosecutor. Thus encouraging the criminals to continue.

Meanwhile we have "no go areas" for the german police in Berlin where even the police is not able to fight for justice.

Surely this is the preliminary stage of the civil-wars in Europe during the 21st century.

rape by muslims ia very easy to correct. I sugest that for every european girl raped by muslims, a muslima from the same age will be , total naked and in public been raped the double of time and by the double of western men.
