Facebook off limits for county employees

The Jämtland County Council in western Sweden has decided to ban its employees from using office computers to visit the Facebook social networking website.

“Security must come first in order to avoid any serious incidents,” said council member Marianne Larm Svensson, a member of the opposition Centre Party, to the local Länstidningen newspaper in Östersund.
She uses Facebook daily to keep stay connected to colleagues, fellow politicians, and ordinary citizens.
In order to continue doing so, Larm Svensson said that in the future she will update her Facebook status using mobile phone text messages.

I think it is smart and well done. There are a lot more sites that are purely recreational that should be banned from most jobs. Most especially any governmental jobs where the peoples taxes pay the salary. I know I object to paying someone to do a job while they, instead, surf or visit online. Home is for play, work at work.
