A 31-year-old Swedish woman claiming to be a Playboy model in need of money has been charged with fraud after convincing several men to lend her sizeable sums for fictional emergencies.

Using a picture of famed Playboy playmate Cori Nadine, the 31-year-old Swede made contact with men on the internet claiming to be a model herself, according to the Aftonbladet newspaper

The fake Playboy model then told her victims fanciful stories of financial hardship, urging the men to send her money to cover unforeseen expenses.

In one ploy, she told her victims about a fictional daughter who was suffering from leukemia and close to death.

Her heart-wrenching tale prompted the men to send her thousands of kronor to assist with treatment.

One man even took out a loan in order to help with the fictional daughter’s plight, being told he would be repaid with money from the modeling work.

Altogether, the 31-year-old woman, who has a prior conviction for fraud, managed to extract over 500,000 kronor ($57,800) from her unwitting victims.

She stands charged with several counts of fraud, driving without a licence, and providing false signatures.

While she admits she received money from the men, she claims that accepting loans from individuals isn’t a criminal act.

The Borås District Court is expected to rule on the matter on April 30th.

Okay... if a guy is going to send a woman money without even meeting her, then he deserves to be screwed over!

I guess they really got excited when she said she was a "Playboy bunny"!

Watch out guys... there's others out there doing similar scams.

Low life women trying to sucker men out of money! Heard about one from a friend. She didn't say she was a Playboy bunny... but after a few chit chats... she did need some money! That was the last of the online chit chats with that stupid broad!

Couldn't believe the unsympathetic comments that some people posted on another comment thread for this story. Even the one above blames the victims to some extent.

Internet scamming is a crime, scammers are heartless criminals who use people's emotional vulnerabilities and brainwash them into sending money, and scam victims - naive though they may be for sending the money - are exactly that, victims! If a woman gets raped, are the clothes she's wearing at the time of any relevance? Of course not.

This woman claims she has committed "no crime", but acquiring money under false pretences is fraud, end of story.

Professional Internet scam operations, in particular dating scams, exist in Nigeria, the Mari El region of Russia, Ukraine, the Philippines and several other countries. 95% of dating scammers are men working in organized gangs. Ther are very well-versed in psychology.

And I have personally spent nearly two years helping the victims of dating scams with info and support, and well as baiting the scammers themselves - in other words, provoking them or wasting their time by sending them on fruitless errands to Western Union time after time.

If you've been scammed or would like more info about it, please check out this website http://www.delphifaq.com/faq/russian_marriage_scams/f2412.shtml
