*extremely informative first post!*
Please return to the US. You're a new poster but I'm already sick of you.
Come on! Everyone has bad people and bad events, but please realize, in Sweden, your laws suck when it comes to prosecuting the criminals.
I do agree, Sweden, is a beautiful place, met many wonderful people in Sweden, and love the bond for keeping some old traditions.
Sweden is an awesome place to live, but their laws suck. Ok. . .ok. . .there are places around the world where their law and justice suck a lot more.
End.
Sweden is a beautiful place to live, an awesome place to live, I met many wonderful people in Sweden, but the law suck! Ok ...ok...I do agree. ..there are far worst places around the world where their laws suck a lot more.
End
But, under Swedish law, isn't she already considered an "adult"?
If so, she could pursue criminal charges.
I'm not saying she was bad here, I'm saying she should use the laws and courts to fight what is right.
BTW, Sweden IS a wonderful place. All good countries have their problems, and it is not to be misconstrued that Sweden is a bad place... bad stuff happens. I wish all well in this circumstance, well, not the bad ones.
As for people "bashing" Sweden - if Swedes think its okay to bash the USA and England etc. over things they do, then its okay to do the reverse.
All I heard was anti-USA and English comments during the Irak War yet many of these protesting against USA would be wearing American brand clothing, listening to American music etc. etc.
If you can't take it - don't give it.
It is a problem that is very hard to prosecute - often the women are brought over for just a few months and then sent back which hinders the police investigation.
However I am very puzzled by this article in the Local as it is not clear why it is being slanted as a "Swedish" problem at all - according to the article's text the girl was forced to work in a strip-club in Tallin - now as far as I know Tallin is NOT in SWEDEN - but is the capital of Estonia. So why are people on this forum pereive it as a Swedish problem? Or did they fail geography at school?
Obviously this international sex trade needs more cases like this - usually the main ringleaders escape punnishment by moving/living abroad. But in this case Sweden has chosen to prosecute even though the crimes were committed in another country. Shouldn't we be welcoming this?
Because he wants to, of course. Then we'll have one less person whining but not doing anything about it.
Glad you left, then.
Oo, I see the stereotypical American arrogance coming through. Pity. And you claim Swedes think they're superior? Our laws don't suck according to absolute truth, only according to OPINION. I for the most part agree with the Swedish justice system since I believe firmly in rehabilitation over punishment. Who the hell are you to claim that I'm wrong?
Yes, because thinking everyone should live by your values in life isn't arrogant at all...
Pics or GTFO!
The bar owners were Swedish and I would guess that a large number of the clients were Swedish as well. Unfortunately a large number of Swedish and Western men just saw the collapse of the Soviet Union as an opportunity for cheap sex with young girls. A number of countries are now prosecuting their citizens for crimes commited outside their respective countries. In Canada there have been a few cases where the government have gone after people that went to Thailand for sex with young girls and boys. I think it is high time Western countries take responsibility for there own pervs...
come on people, sweden needs another set of revolutions to come over the sickness left in the social culture... it can be corrected... not with the present state system though..
Judiciary and legal systems as well as values (rehabilitation over punishment for instance) differ from one countrie to another, and no system is flawless or prevail on the other. There's no point whatsoever in arrogant blamings of other countries and their locals. People should start by putting energy in cleaning the crap in front of their own door, and there's a lot to do in each country in terms of human trafficking, forced prostitution or rape. What happened to this girl is "just" another example of the mess going fairly well on within our European frontiers.
...
Explain please.
Well said.
Some of Sweden's laws do need to be reformed but copying the American punishment system would certainly not be a good start.
God forbid any critical remarks against Lee Kwan Yew or his family. Several newspaper, (most notably the Asian Wall Street Journal) get fined for libel very frequently.
I do think it has something to do with the fact that Swedish media tells everything, warts and all. I would be surprised if other countries didn't have the same problems.
