A 30-year-old man who repeatedly raped two 17-year-old girls during a frightful 16-hour car ride through southern Sweden was sentenced on Friday to seven years in prison.

The Linköping District Court convicted the man for aggravated rape, assault, and unlawful deprivation of liberty and was also ordered to pay the girls a total of 445,000 kronor ($56,000) in damages.

The man had previously been convicted for aggravated rape and sexually abusing a child, but was released from prison in January 2008 after serving four and a half years of a seven year sentence.

The new conviction stems from an incident which took place in early March 2009 when the 30-year-old man and his girlfriend convinced the two 17-year-old girls go join them on a car trip from Hultsfred to Linköping.

The 30-year-old lured the two teenagers into the car by claiming that his girlfriend, who was also friends with the girls, was ill.

Not long into the journey, the man pulled a knife on his passengers, locked the doors and threw all mobile telephones out of the car, warning:

"If everyone just obeys this will go fine. Follow my instructions and you will live," according to court papers.

The two girls were then forced to sit on the floor of the car in silence.

The 30-year-old also bound and assaulted his girlfriend, who stayed in the car out of fear for reprisals, while her boyfriend pulled over in desolate areas on several occasions to rape and beat her two friends.

In the early 1990s, the man had also been sentenced to court ordered psychiatric care for assault.

However, the court determined he wasn’t suffering from any serious mental illnesses at the time he committed the crimes for which he has now been sentenced.

I have a better idea. Chop this guys balls off. There problem solved.

I'm a man and I appreciate carrying around the family jewels everywhere i go... but I agree with Apostolos above, give the SOBs the chop.

Instead of 7 years he should have gotten minimum 30, the memory of what he did will just about be fading by the time he comes out... and searches for his next victim/s.

This place is FARRR to lenient for these sort of crimes, plus introduce 3 time loser laws like in California... 3rd time serious offense, throw away the key.

And no, I am not American so no need to start bashing US laws.

Maybe he will rape the Judge when he is released, or the judge's wife or kids. Only then will we see a change in this absurdity they call law.
14:42 May 15, 2009 by redcrown
nowhere is the convicted rapest named ,seeing he has already commited the lowest act of sexual assualt on a child the world should know who he is
14:52 May 15, 2009 by Rocknsam
The memory will never fade from these young women. I agree chemical castration on the man is in order, and that's putting it nicely. They should be put in a data base for sex afenders and not allowed to live close to schools.

Yeah, I can't believe that the Czech Rep was CRITICISED earlier this year for continuing to castrate its sex offenders. It may sound barbaric but its the only way forward.

I just find it amazing that the guy had previously been convicted of the same offense, including doing it to a child. 4 years for that? Ridiculous. The guy should be in for life with that prior record, not 7 years.
16:42 May 15, 2009 by rAMIREZ.PBLO
That is a very very soft sentence, they should be a bit much tougher!!!
22:56 May 15, 2009 by jimmyjames
This is unbelievable. This guy just got released from prison for sex crimes now he is abducting teenage girls at knifepoint. Sex offenders statistically are the most prone to keep repeating their deviant behavior. Lets see; Kidnapping by use of a deadly weapon- Life sentence; Rape by use of deadly weapon-Life sentence; Robbery by use of a deadly weapon-25 years; Assualt with intent to commit bodily harm by use of deadly weapon-25 years.( These sentences are per victim so double them for two girls.) Rapists and killers should never be given the benefit of the doubt...the cost is just too high if your wrong.

Seriously I am getting kinda sick of these soft punishments. I mean especially for a REPEAT offender.

Charges should be: Aggravated assault, Assault with a deadly weapon, Threatening bodily harm/life, Kidnapping, and most importantly Rape.

Sentence: Life without the possibility of parole...

If this was the US, I would suggest any sentence above a year so long as he was placed in the prison's general population (no separation please), as he would be killed within the first year and save taxpayers a lot of money.

As for the California bit. The 3-strikes law (life without parole) resulted because a criminal was released from prison only to kidnap and this time kill. It was a young child named Paulina Glass. The rest is history. I wish I could remember the dudes name, alas couldn't find it.

Do it like this Sweden...Its time to start removing people from society all together. Its time they cease to live and just merely exist. We'll call it evolution

California:

Some unusual scenarios have arisen, particularly in California — the state punishes shoplifting and similar crimes involving over $500 in property as felony petty theft if the person who committed the crime has a prior conviction for any form of theft, including robbery or burglary. As a result, some defendants have been given sentences of 25 years to life in prison for such crimes as shoplifting golf clubs (Gary Ewing, previous strikes for burglary and robbery with a knife), nine videotapes (Leandro Andrade, received double sentence of 25 year-to-life for 2 counts of shoplifting). In one particularly notorious case, Kevin Weber was sentenced to 26 years to life for the crime of stealing four chocolate chip cookies (previous strikes of burglary and assault with a deadly weapon).

Why give him a sentence at all if all he got was just 7 years for this terrible crimes?

Infact, give him an award

Like a commentator said, maybe if he rapes the judge's daughter or wife, he'll get 'better' sentencing

The so-called developed countries' sentencing is really a joke, no wonder crime is rife. Tougher prison sentences please

As for the US, their sentences are simply harsh if you are black
11:09 May 16, 2009 by George C
When will the Swedish justice system wake up and hand out sentences suitable to the crime. No wonder criminals are not worried about going to prison. In a recent article in the Irish newspapers ... the following sentence was handed down in a similar case...

I quote the following

" A man who raped two women after breaking into their homes has been jailed for 20 years for acts that a judge said "ruined both women's lives".

This sentance is more in line with the crime, however it will never pay for the horrible attack on the victims.
18:53 May 17, 2009 by DamnImmigrant
I understand the Swedish mentality that criminals do not mean to do the things they do, it is just circumstances that push them into it. If we treat them well, they will become better citizens.

I really like this ideal but unfortunately I can only see it working in a limited number of cases and only with criminals who share your cultural ideals! There are cases where the sentencing should be moderate.

THIS IS NOT ONE OF THOSE CASES!!!!!! This person has a history of violence!

SEVEN YEARS for the sadistic rape of these women?

SWEDEN - WAKE UP!!! What is the matter with you? When you are soft on crime, you invite more criminals to come to this great country! Criminals who will come here because they KNOW that IF they get caught and IF they get convicted, they will soon be free! Easy Pickings!

There are crimes and criminals that MUST be sentenced to very long prison sentences so that they are removed from society for a long period of time.

Do you know what happens to sex offenders in American prisons?
00:35 May 18, 2009 by Kooritze
Go Czech Republic!!! One sensible EU Member State!!

This guy will get a nice room to himself in a Swedish Prison, central heated, TV and all the rest of it and probably out in a few years. Pathetic penal system!
05:09 May 18, 2009 by freethinker
Crack Daddy, lol in an American prison Bubba would love rapists and child molestors. Yeppers they get a real hard time..lol
01:55 May 23, 2009 by Coalbanks
How about a sentence of life with no parole as a dangerous offender likely to reoffend & unlikely to be rehabilitated ( for the better that is - prison DOES rehabilitete but rarely for the better ).
