It sounds like your professor is describing the idealistic Olaf Palme/ABBA Sweden of the 1970's when Swedes thought they had almost invented Utopia. That was the Sweden I knew. I haven't been over for a visit for quite awhile, but it seems like the place has changed quite a bit, at least if judging by the articles on this website.
