A journalist employed by Sweden’s TV4 was taken to hospital early Wednesday morning following a powerful explosion at the door of her Stockholm apartment.

Police believe the bombing was a deliberate attack against the journalist, and have launched an investigation into attempted murder, according to several media reports.

“We can confirm that the victim is a TV4-journalist. The person is doing well considering the circumstances, but is naturally quite shocked,” said TV4 spokesperson Gunnar Gidefeldt to the TV4 news website nyhetskanalen.se.

The explosion, which occurred shortly before 4am, blew up the door of the woman’s second storey apartment on Fatburskvarnsgatan on the island of Södermalm.

The blast also caused a fire to break out in the apartment, filling the building’s stairwell with smoke, and forcing the TV4 journalist to escape through a window. No other residents in the building were injured, however.

Gidefeldt told the Aftonbladet newspaper, there were no known threats against the woman.

“No. There is nothing as far as we know, but that is one aspect of the police’s work, so it’s foolish to speculate,” he said.

Police have begun a preliminary investigation into attempted murder, despite lingering uncertainty whether the explosion was directed specifically at the TV4 journalist.

“The explosive was so powerful that we can’t rule out that she could have been injured or killed by it,” said interim police commissioner Anders Bjäregård to nyhetskanalen.se

“We’re going to interview residents in the building as well as look into her background to see if there is any motive behind the act.”

I think it is due to the lack of committment from the law enforcement to take any actions. I find it very shocking to see that the law enforcement officials in Sweden are very very laid back.... if you go to report something to them they always try to calm you down by saying "its not that serious yet"...

And they tend not to waste tax payers money unnecessarily... they would rather let hulligans vandalise instead of arresting them... that is the reach for the increased violience in Sweden... teens have tooo much of free time to do nothing these days in Sweden...

The Swedish police are well prepared to arrest motorist driving 20 kilometres above the limit. This bombing incident will fall in the other 94% of unsolved crimes. G-d forbid if you go to a dark alley and take a leak at 2:00 in the morning. before you could pull it out, you will have the Säpo and all the faw enforcement with pen in hand ready to write you a ticket.

However, we must look at the statistics, Sweden has a very low crime rate...but first you have to get rid of the rape statistics, the bombing statistics, arson statistics, vandalism statistics, burglary statistics, car theft statistics...should I go on? I found statistics from the UN a few weeks ago and they compared the crime rates to many different countries. And Sweden has a worse crime rate than that big scary country on the other side of the Atlantic (yes, the USA), but, however, the murder rate here is much lower, but I wonder if that is merely because people can't own guns (they do, however own axes) and guns kill easier, so maybe the murder rate is only lower because people don't have access to guns, and not that people in Sweden are any less violent than anywhere else in the world.
15:22 May 20, 2009 by antoniolgj
Harding00 you are right apparently it doesn't make sense, but if you take in consideration that rape, bombing, arson, vandalism, burglary etc. are committed by no Swedish, than the statistics start to make some sense.

This was a simple worming and has the symptoms of a typical OC / gang related crime. Yet SE been SE the police doesn't understand the nature of such a crime...

If they had the right to own guns, then the population would dwindle drastically. Don't let their quiet appearance fool you. They are as aggressive and violent as they come. Have you seeing the way they behave in the laundry room if you go over the allowed time by just a few minutes? Yep, they blonder you down with axes, the poising their 60 year old neighbors, they hire hit man to bump you off in gamla Stan; they shoot at toilets with the excuse of shooting at goose etc.

"A journalist employed by Sweden’s TV4 was taken to hospital early Wednesday morning following a powerful explosion at the door of her Stockholm apartment."

Title of article: 'Journalist injured in possible bomb attack'

Correction: It's NOT a possible bomb attack. Front doors don't usually explode for no reason. It IS a bomb attack.

Jeez. Just who writes these articles anyway?

Antoniolgj, You are right. How much Swedish on immigrant crime is there? Now the other way around? People can use the worn out "poverty" or "lack of education" excuses all they want, but Sweden has the most generous social services in the world. Now what is the excuse? Maybe these "refugees" just hate democracy and the Western way of life?

Harding00, maybe if ethnic Swedes were allowed to carry guns (especially the women) these types of crimes would begin to diminish. Someone would think twice about raping a women if they might not live through it. If not maybe Swedish women should start walking around with axes.

What is wrong with the police, judges and prosectors?

I moved to Sweden from Northern Ireland to get away from lunatics like this.

Please, just cut the crap. Drop the usual ideological reasons to make the most stupid decisions you make and get the police out there to shoot these terrorists.

If someone is planting bombs, they are a terrorist. They are attacking your country. Shoot back and defend your country.

Also journalists, love them or hate them are actually the first line in defending democracy. They need to be protected.
22:40 May 20, 2009 by Mucker
What are you guys talking about? How exactly could the police have prevented this attack? Should they put an armed guard at every journalist's front door?

You mention NI, one of the most heavily (and heavy-handed) policed areas in europe, and guess what? The 'RA still managed to bomb.

Nemisis, I think you're all over the place with your comments. You're just looking to further a racist agenda if you ask me.

On another note, I wouldn't be surprised if this was a biker gang who did this. Don't they tend to be Swedish?

I studied Criminal Justice in the US and we constantly compared the high crime and incarceration rate in the US to Sweden. My very liberal professors always stated that the US has such a high prison population and that Sweden has such a low prison population and such. But I guess my professors never looked at the statistics other than murder rate. And never looked at the poor policing system which explains the low prison population. And what scares me is not the crime rate per se, but the lack of a criminal justice system here. Yes, I feel safe in Sweden (except from anti-American people who burn down stores that sell American products http://www.thelocal.se/17844/20090226/ ) but not any more safe than when I lived in the States. But my professors made it seem as if Sweden had no crime!

HardingOO,

It sounds like your professor is describing the idealistic Olaf Palme/ABBA Sweden of the 1970's when Swedes thought they had almost invented Utopia. That was the Sweden I knew. I haven't been over for a visit for quite awhile, but it seems like the place has changed quite a bit, at least if judging by the articles on this website.
