A 16-year-old boy has been arrested for the attempted murder of a 16-year-old girl at a bus stop in Upplands-Väsby near Stockholm on Monday afternoon.

The boy was interrogated and detained on Monday evening following a massive manhunt after the 16-year-old girl was found stabbed in the back at a bus stop in the town, 26 kilometres north of Stockholm.

Police were unwilling to divulge details of their interview with the boy nor speculate as to any motive for the attack.

"I do not know exactly how much contact they have previously had with each other," Fredrik Ladenstedt at Stockholm police told news agency TT.

The girl was found shortly after 3pm on Monday afternoon after having been stabbed at a bus stop.

The 16-year-old was conscious as she was taken to Karolinska University Hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries. Her condition during the night was described as serious but stable.

Police immediately launched a major manhunt with several police units, including a helicopter, and were able to make the arrest on Monday evening.

The attack is being classified at attempted murder.

Puffin, you make the point here. Having more policemen around, tougher laws, etc... will not prevent in any way this sort of crimes. The only matter here is to stress the education of young people about refusing violence as mean of resolving problems... but, anyhow, some of those crimes are nearly physiological in our societies, no matter what!

This boy is Swede ? , yes sure.

This is getting common now a days. Strange is that even we taxpayers pays a lot in social taxes to train our boys to be more tolerant and respectable citizens. BUT we failed , we failed.

Someone truly said once. " We have learned how to WALK on MOON, But did not learn how to Walkt on Earth like a Human being ".

This riot will increase unless we change our attitude ... usual "Mama, Papa Jobba , Barn på Dagis" ..

Napolean rightly said " Give me Better mother , i will give you best nation".

I think social benefits is like caviar given to the pigs some times....

I like the soft Swedish police.

And making them tougher would not have helped one iota in this situation.

As i said social benefits are not the problem and cause. Definitely not. !!

What i said is that one of the cause of this kind of riots and increasing number of violence in our children is due to negligence from parents. We have the collective responsibility to train our children but what we do is :

We work both Father and Mother, send our Child to Dagis, We come back from work , tired , dont give proper time to our child . watch TV , send our child to his/her room and sleep zzzzzzzzzzzz.

Children when see this kind of negligence from parents they feel empty from inside and try to fill it with Media, TV, Films and Games. which damage their minds.

Also we are not allow to stop our children even if they do bad.. that is Caveat of Swedish system.. Now when things get out of our hands we BLAM Police.. to handle our 'problem Child'...

Think and test your own behavior and rectify otherwise "what you SOW, so shall you BEAR".

Hi idialogue!

I agree not only 100% with you but one thousand percent...This is really true, "Give me Better mother , i will give you best nation".

Perfect, Person in dagis is only responsible for taking care not for building character. When parents will not give proper time this will happen.

I think it is unfair to blame the parents as well. In today's society it is pretty common to have two working parents, and like myself their are plenty of children that turn out just fine,

I believe as we progress as a society, children younger and younger are becoming more intelligent and aware at quite a young age. I saw this 10 year old with an iphone, I was quite impressed with what he could do on it. Fact is we do not punish children very hard for their actions. Gangs have for years been using teens to commit crimes such as murder. At those impressionable ages the sanctity of life is a little lost on them, its only natural that this would spill over from gangs into the general public now and then.

I blame it on parents too! Dagis is not the answer, it never was.

Hey, I was born and raised in Sweden and I love Sweden with all my heart. However, when I was a child we actually had police patrol the streets and their presence was not intimidating in the sense that you were afraid to live your life. If you're not breaking the law, why would you be afraid of the police anyway? We were able to be out late at night as 6-7 year-olds without any fear. Today, my mom tells me most elders are afraid to go out after dark for fear of being robbed in my little home town. That my friends, is sad. And hey Paulo, do you know how many homicides are hidden from that stat? Just like they always hid their unemployment rate I have little confidence is statistics dealing with perception of the country from the Swedish government, or any government for that matter.

It is actually the opposite: most deaths are initially reported as murder, and even though the files are later adjusted it is the initial reporting that goes into the stats...
