Sweden has requested the repatriation of a 24-year-old woman jailed for four years in 2008 for plotting to kill witnesses in her boyfriend's drugs trial, as fears for her health mount.

Sweden-born Charlotte Lindström who prior to her conviction was a regular on the society pages of Sydney newspapers, was sentenced to three years and 10 months in jail in March 2008 after pleading guilty to charges of plotting to murder two witnesses in the drugs trial of her boyfriend Steven Spaliviero.

She was described by the trial judge Steven Rothman, as "emaciated" and "emotionally immature" and the defence counsel referred to psychological reports which said that Lindström suffered from anorexia.

Her health has deteriorated further while serving her sentence and doctors now fear that her life may be in danger, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

Sweden's ambassador to Australia, Sven-Olof Petersson, has now appealed to local authorities to work for the transfer of Lindström so that she can be closer to her family and receive the care that she needs, Svenska Dagbladet reports.

So what the Ambassador is saying is that this convicted failed murderer is not going to get medical care from the Australian Gov't. What a total tool! She did the crime in Australia and was convicted for it. Maybe it is that in Sweden she would have only been sentenced to 75 hours of community service. Sweden needs to grow up and realize that not all Swedes are good little children being led astray by the bad bad people from everywhere else!

I totally agree with ya ameribrit.

This sounds like a slightly updated version of telling your mom your sick so you can't go to school.

She did the crime she she should do the time ...and it's not that long considering the charges. I have full faith in the Australian medical competencies she deserves to be in prison in Australia.

Good on NSW for staying strong. The girl tried to hire hitmen to kill people. Unfortuantely she made the dumb decision to do this and now is the key witness in two trials. It was a serious crime and she is lucky to only be serving a short period. Harden up woman. The state is protecting your safety by keeping you in isolation. The rest of her life will be spent looking over her shoulder but she chose to get involved and i am glad that she is staying behind bars and in the country she commited the crime.

She plotted to have two innocent men killed and should serve the full sentence. Just imagine if the plan had gone ahead. Two families would have been devestated.

Swedish nationalism is the reasoning behind wanting to bring home a girl of Swedish blood. She remains family, even if she's done bad things.

This nationalism is sadly lacking when it comes to protecting Swedish blood from displacement by foreigners from the Middle East and Africa. Attempted murder may be bad, but a greater crime is indiscriminate immigration: an act of ethnic cleansing or genocide against all Swedes.

This bimbo needs to do some "hard time" as for her being a little thin....well as they say; closer to the bone sweeter the meat.

This is an update to the previous thread as the Swedish Ambassador in Australia has now become involved in the case as the woman is now so sick it is feared that she could die at any time

According to the Swedish press the main problem is that the Australians are actually refusing to give an answer to the official request to transfer her prison sentence to Sweden - this is a normal occurance that prisoners are exchanged and serve their sentence out in their own countries - they are NOT asking for her to be released for those of you who didn't understand this point.

However it looks as though it will be a death sentence instead of a 4 year sentence. The woman has dropped 3kg in the past week and now weighs only 35kg - the reason that thw Ambassador has got involved is that the woman - with a history of mental problems - will probably not live much longer.

puffin, if you have a look at the lates in the aussie papers like the article i put the link to... The NSW government have indeed refused the request to send her home now. Of course she is trying to make herself sicker so she can be retrned to Sweden. She has death threats against her life even inside prison, which i believe she deserves for actually trying to get two other people killed herself! A young australian lady is serving a 20 year prison sentence in Indonesia for a bag of weed im pretty sure lindström can suck it up and start eating a little food. Of course he NSW government is trying to help her. Us taxpayers are paying for her to be kept there just so she can testify in a court case. She deserves being punished and i am stoked that NSW has stayed strong andkept her there because we all know how easy life could become for her if she was transferred back to a swedish prison.

wat an ignorant ambassador!! Charlotte deserves to stay and rot in a Sydney jail regardless of her situation. Im from Sydney ,and if I did a similar crime in Stockholm, I would not be given any oppurtunity to serve my time back in Sydney. The ambassador, should back off and let justice prevail in Australia.

DONT FORGET, Charlotte attempted to organise the murder of a man!!!!!! there is no excuses for that!!!.

how unacceptable of the swedish ambassador and Charlotte's parents, for trying to make her get away with attempted murder!!

wow - obviously knowing little about annorexia and that it is not a matter of "sucking it up and eating" - unless this woman is under 4'10'' then she is in really dangerous territory - she could die of heart failure at any time. Then Australia definitely won't be getting her evidence!

There is a high chance of her dying in prison, and quite frankly she tried to have two people murdered, so i believe she would not be a huge loss! Imagine the poor families of these witnesses if the person she tried to hire had not been a cop! sorry for the harshness of my comments and saying that she should suck it up and eat, but i have no sympathy at all for this girl. She should have been sentenced to a lot more time in prison and left there to rot, lets just hope she stays alive just long enough to put the others involved away for a long time as well.

cant believe the press this has gotten. she deserves to rot in jail. it looks like the socialite has friends in higher places. typical, starve yourself and get out of jail in a country where jails are 'real jails' and go home to where jails are more cushy and comfy compared to the rest of the worlds.

Do the crime do the time... sick care in Aus is on par with Sweden by and large and we all know about the revolving door justice here in Sweden.

Aussie health system is as bad as the American or Canadian ones..

That could also mean that the Australian health care system is just as good as the American or Canadian systems.

Update on this story. Somehow unbelievably, everyone except charlotte has today been cleared of all charges. A jury has decided she acted alone in hiring a hitman.
