The board of the Church of Sweden has proposed that same sex-couples should be granted the right to religious wedding ceremonies. A final decision will be made by the Church synod in October.

On Friday, the church board took the first step towards permitting same-sex marriages by submitting a petition to the Church of Sweden synod – the Swedish Lutheran church's highest decision-making body.

The board proposed the church continue to perform wedding ceremonies following new legislation which came into force on May 1st and grants same-sex couples in Sweden were granted the same legal marriage status as heterosexuals.

“We have noticed a deeply entrenched desire, that the Church of Sweden, as a church of the people, should continue to perform weddings,” Anders Lindberg, interim secretary general, told the Dagens Nyheter (DN) newspaper.

The alternative would have been that the church was no longer allowed to perform ceremonies, which is why, despite internal resistance, Friday's decision was expected.

If the proposal is accepted, current church regulations will continue to apply in practice, with some alterations, such as replacing “man and wife” with “lawfully wedded spouses” when a homosexual couple is married.

However, priests will still be able to refuse to wed same-sex couples, according to DN.

Previously, several dioceses were reported to be against granting churches the task of handling legal registrations of marriages.

But now a large majority of dioceses believe there should a single regulation regarding marriage in the Lutheran church, according to a statement from the church.

Three representatives abstained from voting on the proposal.

"When the church takes a stance on the issue of same-sex marriages, it is worthwhile to ask whether or not this is harmful or beneficial," said Archbishop Anders Wejryd in a statement.

"The church wants to support faithful relationship, and for us, from a biblical-theological perspective, the commandment of love supersedes other commandments and proscriptions in the Bible."

In October, the Church of Sweden synod will make a final decision on whether same-sex ceremonies can be conducted in church.

Since 2007, the Church of Sweden, which counts around 74 percent of Swedes as members, has offered gays a religious blessing of their union.

If the synod follows the board's recommendation, Sweden would become one of the first countries in the world to allow gays to marry in a major church.

We all are equal in the eyes of God, we all are sons of Him, for everyone that really believes in GOD. Your poor comment is just homophobic and insults.

Wrong god. You need a small "g". That is the god that these gays are looking and is found at 2 cor 4:4. look it up.

Don't forget that 'same sex' could also mean two women.

What's your opinion of lesbian couples? Most of them aren't really into sodomy, you know...

Voiceofreason

Are you completely confident of your own sexuality? You just sounded a little touchy on the subject that's all. Repressed homosexuality can be very frustrating - there are groups out that can help but one must reach out to them.
14:34 June 15, 2009 by Tutu
spy i agree with you. I am opposed to gay marriages in the church but at the same time i am in support of reaching out to gay people and loving them as well. Adultery is one of the sins and not only one. I have met quite a few gays living straight now and there are still many not happy being gay or lesbian. Whatever the state church does not bother me anymore because they are dead and a disgrace to the body of Christ. They are more of a charity group now. they can endorse even pedofilia for all i care, it is not going to increase membership. i read today that they are involved in many sex scandals.

Hello every one,

I have a questions for gays and lesbians, and I mean no offend to any one by this question, I just want to understand how things goes.

If one of the gay couple or the lesbian couple feel like the man or feel like the woman , Why not make a surgery and become a real man or a real woman and avoid all these trouble in the society?

2 lesbians , why not of then make a surgery and become a man? , same for gays, why not one of them make a surgery and become a woman??

Top quality LOLage. When you say you've been to over 6 countries, does that mean 7?

I have been to over 20 countries and never once met a rapist. Does that mean they are invented by media too?

Exactly. I do suggest as well that all people from certain ethnic background aka brown-skinned subject themselves to the same treatment Michael Jackson did to become white.
15:43 June 15, 2009 by Muttlestar Galactica
You confuse gay folk with transsexual folk. Gay folk are people, whom are typically comfortable with their born gender.

Transsexuals are folk whom can be either gay or straight, who do not identify with the gender they were born as.

I think you meant to write "over 36" countries.

Spy i misread your comment. U said that repressed sexuality is wrong but what about people not happy being gay. why so much political pressure being used to stop researches that wants to find out if change is possible among homosexuals. They are not allowed to find out whether being gay is a CHOICE or it is IN BORN. Exodus international have helped so many gay people to become straight. I submit that gay theory is inconclusive and theories are politically motivated and hastened. Dont call me homophobic because i have not expressed any view on the subject.
16:29 June 15, 2009 by High Priestess Kang - Slut
Ok. We won't call you homophobic. We will, however, point and laugh in your face while we call you moronic, stupid and anything else that springs to mind. Feel better, now?

PS: Stupidity can be unlearned, too. Unfortunately, you have to leave the confines of the church and go to a school rooted in science.

I am yet to get your point. You have just ranted without making any point. I would love to read what you have agaisnt my point. I do not argue with fools and i will not respond to you anymore if you dont present your case

In addition, provide us with links to scientific studies including bibliography.
17:20 June 15, 2009 by Tutu
There are evidences of people who re gay living straight now. in 2002, 200 gay people entered into a programme and 114 of them are living straight but APA called them religious rights. The end results that matters the most. APA is the political power that have being used. Though they have agreed now that being gay is a CHOICE. You can google Exodus international yourself and find out what they do and how they do it.
17:25 June 15, 2009 by Paulo +fab muscular than Jonnhy
No. Thank you I simply will not. If you knew what you were talking about you would provide with sources and evidences but relied on international scientifically proven methods of research. You are simply repeating what they have brainwashed you. You are not prepared to discuss this subject, and as you do have the onus to prove the countrary I do not bother looking for it.
17:26 June 15, 2009 by High Priestess Kang - Slut
Do you honestly think that I give a flip about what you and your ilk think? You want to rehabilitate homos, ! You feel that you're entitled to tell someone (stranger or not) how to live their life based on *your* value set? Please, share with the class why that isn't completely arrogant, let alone unbelievably rude (among many other things).

Furthermore, who are *you* to sit in judgment of another's lifestyle? Who granted you this authority?

In the event you cannot figure out what I have against your point...

1) The sexual preference of another individual is none of your phucking business.

2) You are in no position to render judgment.

3) One cannot nor should not (have to) pray away the gay.

Make no mistake - there is no arguing with fools here. There is simply my telling you that you are fundamentally, categorically WRONG.

You want to be treated in a respectful, mindful fashion - look at how you treat others first.
17:26 June 15, 2009 by Tutu
Simon Le Vay is gay activist, researcher and a psychologist. he intially claimed that being gay was heredictary but later admitted that being gay is not heredictary. Read sex and brain aritcle in Discover 1994 pg 64- 71. My comment is stating the obvious truth without condemning those involved.
17:28 June 15, 2009 by High Priestess Kang - Slut
By suggesting that we google your position, you have demonstrated to the entire world that you are incapable of communicating (and understanding) your preferred methodology/thought process.

I have this sneaking suspicion that if I were to go to a gay bar and survey 200 gay people, 100% of them would respond with, "Exodus International is full of ."
17:30 June 15, 2009 by Paulo +fab muscular than Jonnhy
Obvious truth? How do you come to the conclusion it is so obvious? Are you by the way an ex- gay-who-now-became-straight?
17:31 June 15, 2009 by Tutu
i am not teaching that anyone should change their lifestyle but there are some people not comfortable with certain lifestyles but the system is dicouraging it. secondly we should not be lied to about what is not. It is a shame that your life can be surmaized by your sex. if your sexual orientation is your identity High priest i can understand why you are miserable.
17:32 June 15, 2009 by VikingHumpingWitch
Well I'm very positive that no amount of praying and therapy would induce me to start drinking from the furry cup, so I have no reason to believe it'll work any better on gays.
17:33 June 15, 2009 by Tutu
I will not answer your personal questions but i know names and addresses of people that were former gays. obviously i cannot give you that as well.
17:38 June 15, 2009 by Paulo +fab muscular than Jonnhy
Perhaps those who label people for what they are by their sexual orientations is folks like you, otherwise it wouldn't be such a big issue so that you feel encouraged to be advocating for a dubious therapy to change someone's "life style".
17:42 June 15, 2009 by Paulo +fab muscular than Jonnhy
Next year come back and tell us how many of them still remain, erm, um... straight
17:42 June 15, 2009 by Tutu
good for you viking. i think the best solution is tolerance, we should be allowed to believe what we want to believe without be judged evil or called ilk or whatever. it is a suprise that my comment made Highpriest mad.
17:44 June 15, 2009 by Paulo +fab muscular than Jonnhy
Does bigotry equate with tolerance?
17:45 June 15, 2009 by Tutu
Paolo i hope you are okay upstairs. You are accusing me of being judgmental but you are the chief. I will actually give you a name of a celebrity that was a former gay. His name is donnie Mcclurkin. Google him out.
17:48 June 15, 2009 by High Priestess Kang - Slut
Erm. You're not teaching that anyone should change their lifestyle? Then why are you banging the Exodus drum? If it's not your concern and you truly don't care, you certainly wouldn't be lauding the praises of a farcical group.

And - what does lying have to do with this? By your own admission, through your posts, you think that there is something wrong with homosexuality. By your own admission, you think rehabilitation is necessary. This isn't about lying, this is about your inflicting your value set and rendering judgment on others.

As for my own sexual orientation, that's neither the issue nor your concern. Gay, straight, bi - what I am is what I am. And, fortunately for me, I don't need to be defined by that. If anyone is seeking definition by sexual preference, I should think that would be you considering you're so concerned about who is engaging in sexual relations with whom.

You cannot answer personal questions because you lack substantiating fact. You cannot answer for others because that's not the way life goes.

You're clinging tightly to false assumptions and notions. If you weren't being hateful and judgmental in the process, I would feel truly sorry for you.
17:48 June 15, 2009 by Tutu
you asked me a question and i answered you and you are calling me bigotry. i think i am talking with someone in his or her right senses. I have worked as a resettlement workers with young gay people that are homeless without a single complaints from them. I wish they read your comments and see how judgemental you are.

Actually - I wish they read comments made by Humpers, Paulo, Mutley, me and many others on this forum. They would learn that their sexual preference(s) are perfectly acceptable and that there are people out there who would support them just as they are - without the compulsion to change them to clearly fit a mold that they're not.

why do they always have to make an issue about being gay? It makes my blood boil - they have to have gay clubs, gay parades etc - if we wanted straight clubs and straight parades then they's be screaming discrimination. If you want to get married become straight.
21:34 June 15, 2009 by jack sprat
Many gays seem to live in their own small self centred world where the only thing that concerns them are issues regarding sexuality.

They seem to expect everyone else to sympathise or share their views and concerns, regardless of other more pressing and serious issues in the World.

Instead of being so over obsessed with their own importance, they might command more understanding and respect by taking on board other ppls.opinions and spending more time addressing other possibly more important issues.
21:36 June 15, 2009 by High Priestess Kang - Slut
I don't believe that the GLBT community would have an issue with a, "Straight Pride Parade." Sure - there might be some comments about your choice in wardrobe, but...

BTW..."they's be screaming?"
21:39 June 15, 2009 by spy
DAVID T

I think it would be illegal to túrn anyone away from any club on the grounds of sexuality - that would be discrimination. I am sure 'they' wouldn't mind if you went to one of their their clubs or parades - you might even enjoy it.
21:39 June 15, 2009 by High Priestess Kang - Slut
Yes. All gays are only concerned with things sexual in nature. Gays certainly never give back to their community. And, shame on those horrible gays for wanting the same rights that heterosexuals have under the law.

Do you really feel gays suffer from an inflated sense of self-importance for campaigning for civil liberties. Mind you - I'm not talking about the, "church" per se, I'm talking about legal rights such as providing benefits for your partner, being able to visit your partner in a hospital, inheritance, custodial, etc...?

You're right. They're an uppity lot for wanting what you're entitled to.

They give the impression of suffering from a self centred and over inflated sense of importance on almost all issues but especially relating to sexuality.

It gets to be somewhat tiresome and boring at times.

Time they came to terms the real World if they expect more sympathy and understanding of their own views

04:05 June 16, 2009 by Greg in Canada
I don't really understand the fuss about this since marriage is state sanctioned and not church sanctioned.

Canada made gay marriage legal about five years ago but left it up to the individual churches to decide if they wanted to perform gay marriage ceremonies. The United Church of Canada, a large liberal protestant church performs gay marriage. The Catholic church was the most opposed, no great surprise despite all their child molesting priests. The Anglican church left it up to individual ministers. With the smaller churches they all take different positions. If you want a gay church wedding in Canada, you can always find one to marry you.
10:03 June 16, 2009 by Paulo +fab muscular than Jonnhy
And you what important issues are you addressing at the moment? You seem to brag about qualities you are clearly missing.
10:10 June 16, 2009 by VikingHumpingWitch
Out of interest, do those claiming that "they" are only interested in gayness and have over-inflated senses of self-importance etc.etc. actually know any of "them" in person? Or is your opinion gleaned from a few comments on Internet discussion boards and watching Queer Eye For The Straight Guy?
10:20 June 16, 2009 by Paulo +fab muscular than Jonnhy
Let me inform you about the real world you take for granted and please get out of your bubble!

- Just in case you haven't already realised you do have your straight clubs, straight parades, straight whatsoever is there since the society is fundamentally heterosexist.

- There are certainly so many gay people who do attend the same places as you - you probably cannot once again realise it, cause many of them are not allowed, nor feel pretty comfortably safe to make public display of affection and thus remain most of the time invisible - this is at many occasions and locations a matter of survival.

- What you are suggesting has been the usual behaviour until very recently(perhaps still is) and this has only caused suffering and pain for everybody envolved. Would you like to have your daughter/son married to an "ex-gay/ex-lesbian" or a presumably heterosexual person?

- Do you suggest also that Muslims change their religion to be accepted or black people change the colour of their skin?
10:52 June 16, 2009 by Muttlestar Galactica
2000 years of unjustified prejudice will do that to a group of people.

This is heartening as up until now, as I'd rather got the impression you were rather passionless and mediocre.

The keyword there is "have", because gay have had to "have" gay venues in order to be safe from prejudice and ignorance. The marches and parades are like a living sigh of relief/exultation that we now have some level of acceptance in society.

Did you have any cognisant understanding of what you actually just wrote there?

*See comment my regarding ignorance above

I do have some sympathy with this view, yet understand that for some folk it's an issue that constantly concerns them owing to the innateness of sexuality and how this relates to self-identity.

Agreed, but you must understand that I've been politically active as a gay person for some 20 years and have mellowed somewhat, for those who have just come to it, it's a big new thing which will probably consume much of their interest for some time. Personally, I'm actually heartened when I see gay youth taking up the torch of crusading for their civil liberties, as it competes with the myth that all gay youth have become as vapid as their straight counterparts.

For every action (2000 years of prejudice), there is an equal reaction. This is the real world you think you speak of.

I was once chatting with a co-worker at BT. She herself was a middle-aged woman, and was telling me about the time it suddenly occurred to her that her 80 odd yr old aunt was a gash-gnasher, what with having only lived in an all woman household with a large clouder of cats for as long as she could remember.

She therefore duly asked her mother if her 80 odd year old sister was in fact a lesbian, to which her mother responded.

"I think she used to be".

Keep in mind people, that alcoholics can change. They can CHOOSE not to drink and be destructive to themselves and those around them. They can get help for their problems.

The same way with Gays. They can CHOOSE to live either a destructive life or life that is approved by the God the Bible. ( not the little "g" god - they do that already )! They can get help if they WANT it.

We all have CHOICE. We can choose to follow what the Bible teaches or not. That is up to each of us.

This church does not teach what the Bible teachs:

http://bible.cc/2_timothy/3-16.htm (look it up!)

They can say "the commandment of love supersedes other commandments and proscriptions in the Bible", but then they are not teaching what the Bible says - It is there words!

So, gays can CHOOSE to live the lifestyle or CHOOSE not to do so and please the God of the Bible.

Just like an alcoholic can CHOOSE to drink or not. Not easy - I would say very very hard - but a choice.

..... if you say it is NOT a choice, but born that way, then get treatment for your medical condition, you need help to get better.

.
00:48 June 17, 2009 by 7
very true.

do you choose to be attracted to people of the opposite sex because the bible tells you to? if the bible instructed you to give a man a blow job...would you choose to? that's a serious question.

because that's the choice you're describing. so please give a true answer. if the bible says, you shall perform fellatio on a man and allow a penis to enter your anus on a regular basis to be loved by god and admitted into his kingdom of heaven. would you choose to follow the word of god?

Oh, I see there is just one bible, one religion, one God and they are HIS.

As he is supposed to be absolutely flawless, he indeed follows all the teachings of HIS book word by word, right? He would not eventually pick-and-choose. No, it is completely out of question --- that would be a dreadful sin.

Jesus also promoted the idea that all men should castrate themselves to go to heaven: "For there are eunuchs, that were so born from their mother's womb: and there are eunuchs, that were made eunuchs by men: and there are eunuchs, that made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it." Matthew 19:12

I don't know why anyone would follow the teachings of someone who literally tells all men to cut off their privates.

paulo, i think you just stumbled over the gay manifesto

You got it; and there is just one true interpretation for this verse!
10:32 June 17, 2009 by Puffin
Mmmmm - onbiously I am sure that you are following the word of God in all that you do - so I assume that you are following the the Bible's requirements in all the following examples:

- When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

- I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

- I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15:19- 24. The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

- Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

- I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

- A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

- Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

- Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

- I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

- My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? - Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

puffin oh puffin. you are mislead. that's the OLD testament. it's only applicable when it supports christian extremists. it's merely a "guide" when used against the extremist christian preachings.
10:44 June 17, 2009 by Paulo +fab muscular than Jonnhy
I would not be so sure that the Old Testament should be unconsidered.

Just in case you are thinking that the evil and immoral laws of the Old Testament are no longer in effect, perhaps you should read where Jesus makes it perfectly clear: "It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid." Luke 16:17
10:52 June 17, 2009 by VikingHumpingWitch
Well, I can't believe that we've got 10 pages in and nobody's mentioned that Jesus hung around with 12 blokes and none of them had girlfriends. Nobody find that suspicious? Nobody read the account of the last supper? Jesus hands out the wine, here take this all of you and drink it, next thing we know he's flat on his face in the garden of Gethsemene and all his "disciples" are passed out. It's a big gay orgy, innit.
11:03 June 17, 2009 by 7
don't forget the "this is my body. eat from it" bit. that's a sure "disengage your gag reflex" instruction if i ever heard one.
11:08 June 17, 2009 by VikingHumpingWitch
So we're all agreed then, Jesus loved the ghey and was a proper hardcore drinker.

LOL!

it's not actually true. It's something someone made up once, maybe so women would shut up.
