More Swedes seeking love online in tough economic times

Although sales of some goods have been hard hit by the recession, love is not among of them. The financial crisis has led more and more Swedes to look for love online, making them among the most internet-dating inclined nationalities in the world, according to Dagens Nyheter (DN) newspaper.

DN reported that several of Sweden's largest internet dating sites have had seen a huge upswing in membership figures since the financial crisis hit last autumn.

Experts from the country's four largest Internet dating companies were in agreement that Swedish singles are seeking an increased sense of emotional security in the wake of financial uncertainty. With an estimated 1.3 million Swedes dating online, the are among the most Internet-dating inclined nationalities in the world.

The boom can be due to several factors: widespread broadband access, but also that Sweden boasts almost two million single households in the country, according to Statistics Sweden.

Culture may also have something to do with it. “Swedes are also a little bit shy. We aren't the type to go someone in a bar, but think it's more comfortable to sit at home behind a computer screen,” Jenny Ohlin, managing director of E-kontakt, told DN.

I think I love you.

Misguided misconception that Swedes are shy. They are more like misanthrop horses with a moutful of hay if you ask me. Give them two beers and you will see how shy they really are

Swedes are a little bit shy? Well mannered but not shy.
09:36 June 15, 2009 by peropaco
Well mannered? Is that the reason they all jump and say thank you when you hold open the door for them. Or eagerly reply good morning when they are greeted?

Misanthrope Horses.....Hmmm this is what I learnt today....

Misanthropy is a general dislike, distrust, or hatred of the human species or a disposition to dislike and/or distrust other people's silent consensus about reality. While misanthropes express a general dislike for humanity on the whole, they typically have normal relationships with individual members of society but these would often be very few and far between (Source Wikipedia).....

@peropaco....interesting take

I have been here for six months, north jamtland, I met like 50 girls, first I have been around the world never seen such behaviour, its kind of weird most lack common sense, or wana drink smoke haha...cannot have a normal decent conversation, ADHD sufferers, looking for sex, and any kind of quick getting high, liars, proud for nothing, racist against other cultures, you can impress a girl in most countries by being a nice gentleman, cultured respect her, etc, But where I m u say wana have beer and sex, haha.. most have had a broken relation a child from unkown father, change men easily, and IN LOVE IN USA to extreme what ass tatoo..what nosering, torn pants, dirty shoes, I really wish that things change and they should be glad that other cultures come here, maybe they learn something, and exchange mutual benefit, i respect how they care for women in this country, and children and the old and the freedom of religion..but unfortunately i dont think i will find my Love here at all..

Maybe its a communication problem for you.

Yeah Sam1,

you sound like a really caring kind of guy. I can't see any reasons why you should attract this sort of women.

Aim for the sky, you can do better. Nob.

I met my husband at the Word Reference Online Dictionary Language Forums. Not a regular place to meet the love of your life but I was lucky. He was extremelly shy never bad-mannered at the beginning but Im changing him a little bit.

It's really fun to see how ideas differ, according to our cultures. Im Latin and he is a viking. And I love the combination

Sam meant to stop in the Sweden and he overslept and ended up in Northern Maine, and he thinks that he is in Sweden.

He needs to wake up and go back to Sweden. He should first start in Stockholm, and go to Push, The Blue Moon Bar, Niva in Gothenburg, Cafe Opera, et al, and when he has the same problem--his real problem is Sam. He should have his eyes checked as well. He might be going blind.

@lingonberrie sam he made the point clear i do not understand you, this normally what happens if you kind of guy who is scared or not ready for relationship.you can always see girls who wants to have sex and thats all they want.sam being with over 50 girls in 6 month is not such a lie bacause right inside the nite club you can do whatever you like without the vart noticing ones the girl in question wants that.am not that kind of guy.but lets see the reality there.
