Far-right climbs over pirates in May poll

Despite its recent success in the European Parliament elections, the Pirate Party would garner fewer votes than the far-right Sweden Democrats if a general election were held today, according to Statistics Sweden's biannual party preference survey.

The statistics agency's poll puts the three-party red-green opposition 3 percentage points ahead of the centre-right governing coalition. Together the Social Democrats, Left Party and Green Party scored 48.3 percent.

Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt's Moderate Party (29.9 percent) has however gained major ground on Sweden's largest party, the Social Democrats (36.6), since the last Statistics Sweden poll in November. But the Moderates' coalition partners in the Liberal Party, Centre Party and Christian Democrats have all seen their support wane.

Both the Sweden Democrats and the Pirate Party would fail to obtain the 4 percent support necessary to gain a place in parliament were Swedes to vote in an election this week. The nationalist Sweden Democrats scored 3 percent in the agency's random poll of 9,211 people registered to vote. The poll was carried out from April 28th to June 1st.

The Pirate Party, which rocked the establishment in the recent EU elections, would fail to make a similar impact in a general election, according to the poll. The party led by internet rights activist Rick Falkvinge would only claim between 2 and 2.5 percent of the vote in a bid for a place in the Riksdag.

Moderate Party 29.9 (24.8)
Centre Party 5.5 (5.9)
Liberal Party 5.5 (6.0)
Christian Democrats 4.3 (4.5)

Social Democrats 36.6 (42.3)
Green Party 6.0 (6.1)
Left Party 5.7 (5.7)

Others 6.4 (4.7)

Since neither have 4% neither would get elected

After going to their website and reading what they stand for, the "Sweden Democrats" party seems most in line with what I believe.

You mean you want them to send home immigrants - like us?

14:49 June 17, 2009 by Grippen
I would say "responsible immigration" in their understanding is just preventing Sweding becoming NewSomalia.
15:03 June 17, 2009 by jimmyjames
You know I'm always a little wary of immigrants. Why ? Instead of packing up and leaving ( the easy way ) their countries of origin(s), why do not immigrants attempt to change the problems they are running away from ?? Yet they love to call people who are the citizens of their adopted country ugly names when they seek to defend their culture, ethnicity, ect. from a slow silent invasion. Sweden is a culturally advanced, socially advanced, technilogically advanced, educationally advanced country because the Swedes put in centuries of blood, sweat, and tears to make it so. Why should they allow you (immigrants)to waltz in and take advantage of all their hard work, toil, and sacrafice ?
15:19 June 17, 2009 by mkvgtired
jimmyjames, Because if you dont then all the European news outlets will attack you and claim you are racist. You will inevitably be compared to Nazis and asked why you are apposed to a Utopia governed by multiculturalism.

The tidal wave of Swedish emigration began in the mid 1840s, when the first organized emigrant groups started to arrive in New York. These farmers destined to Iowa and Illinois were followed during the period up to 1930 by almost 1.3 million countrymen. The Swedes still rank number seven among the European immigrant groups. The effect of this exodus from Sweden reached its climax around 1910, when 1.4 million Swedish first and second generation immigrants were listed as living in the U.S. Compare this to Sweden's population at the time: 5.5 million. Roughly one fifth of all Swedes had their homes in America right before World War I !

Do read on why the Swedes emigrated, you ignoramus, and you'll see that having an alliterated name doesn't make you all that special

Intresting place to express your views - on a web site where most posters are immigrants

Not the brightest spark, our jimmyjames. So he should fit right in with the rest of the SD crew - right up till they deport him.
16:49 June 17, 2009 by rumcajs
Someone was asking why inmigrants don't better change things in their countries instead of just leaving. That cliche sounds nice, but we ain't talking about USA or Australia or some other country like that. Many of them are from places where you do what you are told or you just get killed. In the best cases your life ain't in danger, but the situation is already very bad. I'm from Colombia and I'm lucky ( thanks God )cos I came here just because I wanted, but some people in my country live realy like in the middle age and they do work and they work a lot, but it just doesn't help. So what do you do when a friend of a friend says that in Sweden it's like it is and can help u?? You just bloody go there. Anyway, it's quite funny that some of the people here seem to agree with what these far-right party stands for. Is it that there are different kinds of inmigrants;from rich and poor countries?
16:50 June 17, 2009 by Eurostan
sweden democrats must study economics.suppose all immigrants(2 million) suddenly left sweden to their home countries then lot of swedish companies will go bankrupcy.

if immigrants grow like this it will be definitely a threat to swedish culture in longtime.

it is good to allow a lot of immigrants but never give them citizenship under any circumstances like fake marriages or even having children. and never deport them.

i think that what sweden is doing.
16:57 June 17, 2009 by hpunlimited
I think that SD wants sensible immigration. Alot of the SDs are immigrants themselves, like the guy that got the most "X"s on the ballot is a Jewish immigrant from Kazakhstan. And he wants Sweden to be Sweden and not new somalia where the country is run from "Rosengård" and not Rosenbad. Alot of bad immigrants makes the good immigrants look really bad.
17:37 June 17, 2009 by Puffin
Like the fact that they want to send back all immigrants - except themselves of course - no double standards at all there

22:29 June 17, 2009 by John Doe
They don't want to send back _all_ immigrants! Plus that there are lots of immigrants in the party. They want a stop on this absolutely irresponsible immigration going on for a few years now, immigration which creates such lovely "Rosengårds"...
23:56 June 17, 2009 by Puffin
So what do they mean when they say that their policy is the return to a homogenous society then?
02:36 June 18, 2009 by aebak
Yes, I am very worried about the effects of immigration in Sweden, and I agree that all immigrants excluding the indigenous Swedes should be deported to the lands they came from, after all native Samis have it pretty bad in their own country. And yes we should deport all the Swedish immigrants from USA, and while we are at it we should just deport all the immigrants from USA, since the native Americans have lost everything due to foreign immigration. Its just surprising how idiotic immigration opponents sound, because if they just read world history, almost all the countries in the world are occupied by immigrants, germanic tribes immigrated to Europe from Central Asia, Huns immigrated to Hungary from Mongolia, Anglo-Saxons immigrated to England from Central Europe, Portugese immigrated to Brazil from Portugal and Slavs moved into Eastern Europe from the plains of Asia. Lets deport all immigrants since we have nothing better to do in this world expect worrying about moving people.
04:02 June 18, 2009 by Kaethar
Pirate Party may surprise again... SD don't stand much of a chance - their image is constantly being destroyed with news of them singing white nationalist songs and such. Most Swedes won't vote for an openly racist party. The Moderates who are now starting to toughen up their immigration policies will likely steal a lot of their votes.
06:09 June 18, 2009 by Marley420
I think China & Africa should send 100 million people to Sweden. Soon!
11:42 June 18, 2009 by Nemesis
I hope both the moderates and the pirate party increase there share of the vote at the next election.

The SD are extremists, just like the far left groups. They are extremist nutcases, who wallow in hate.
16:01 June 18, 2009 by preddo53
I see a lot of European countries are having the problems we in the UK are having, being called racist if you don't like immigration. Well for the record, in this country we didn't have any racist, now we have millions, apparently. to love your country, and not want to see it changed overnight doesn't mean you're racist, just patriotic, that's all. We also have a few people like nemesis who just talk crap. We don't want to be in the EU either, does that make us doubly racist. I'm not a racist, but I don't like the levels of immigration that are forced on me or my country.
16:17 June 18, 2009 by unkle strunkle
Hence the rise in popularity of far right parties in several EU countries, including Sweden. When crime rates rise in tandem with mass immigration from Islamic countries, and the mainstream political parties fail solve the problem, this is the inevitable result. Its democracy in action.
18:00 June 18, 2009 by rumcajs
Yes sure. If everybody did the same. USA, Canada and South America would get empty cos we would have to live there only the indians, which are not too many. Plus, if we go back to England, France and Spain or Portugal... wouldn't we be inmigrants anyway??? And we'd be A LOT more than the Arabs and Africans they have now.
