Child porn suspect commits suicide

One of the men arrested in Sweden following Tuesday’s pan-Scandinavian child porn raid has killed himself.

The man was one of two men from the Örebro region in central Sweden arrested on Tuesday in connection with Operation Viking, a coordinated effort by police in four Scandinavian countries to combat the spread of child pornography.

Following the man’s suicide, Swedish police filed a complaint against themselves, reports Sveriges Television (SVT).

The man was one of approximately 80 people in Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Denmark who were taken in for questioning or arrested on suspicions of having child pornography on their computers.

The man was released by police following his interrogation.

He then went home, wrote a farewell letter, and killed himself.

“Our initial analysis is that we didn’t break with procedure,” said Örebro police spokesperson Torbjörn Carlson to SVT.

Several of the roughly 20 men targeted by Swedish police were later taken to psychiatric clinics for observation, according to SVT.

“We had no legal reason to hold him and there were no signs that he needed care or help,” said Carlson.

As pointed out, we dont know for sure if he did it... but if he did, the SOB deserved it and hope he didnt go quick.

Now if all the other lowlifes also do this I might have a little respect for them.

Twenty years from now this will be seen as modern witch hunts. Creating and distributing CP is vile and should be punished. But why do the sites purveying it allowed to remain on line? Looking at pictures is a long way from molestation--perhaps we should arrest people for reading/watching murder stories.

Swedish law, for my money, has it right. Equating looking at pictures with rape is a crime. One is disgusting behavior, the other a horrific crime. Plus, there is no evidence the dead man was guilty. The problem is that once accused, people will believe you guilty whether you are or not.

Our rational systems of society are breaking down because no longer believe in them.
23:12 June 17, 2009 by MorbidMiss
In my experience the ones looking at cp are also Peds, just because they are not going out and doing it themselves does not magically make them not what they are. It just means they are afraid of being caught. Besides which the pictures that are distributed are then passed around like trading cards in their little circles. Until the demand is eliminated there will always be those who would use children to make money in this way.
23:33 June 17, 2009 by procrustes
So by your logic MorbidMIss, people who look a pictures of women are rapists?

Passing around CP pictures is illegal and should be punished. Branding someone as a molester should only happen if they molest someone. This idea of preemptive action is a pernicious evil that now has caused a horrible war in Iraq. If someone passes around CP, they have violated the law and should answer for "distribution", not for child rape.

We can't read minds. If we want to maintain a democratic society we can only hold people accountable for they have done, not what we think they might do. Primitive societies mete out extreme punishment for everything and accomplish nothing. The death penalty does not stop murder.

We need to get a grip, people.

I blame it on the lack of morals, When some one grew in a broken family, was not thought of what is wrong and right, not thought to have consciousness, or a sense of awareness of any kinds of laws, BUT goverment laws, So when all you fear is the police, what not you can do? lots of things, But i see people who were never thought morals, not even once, who grew with foster parents, whos mothers is a crack addict and the father is with his girlfriend, and I feel ALL this rotten break of chain or a normal life, is due to the lack of morals, when i was a child i was thought about all religions in School about love, about creation and the creator, about action and reaction, because when you love and fear God, such things can never happen the worst disease of all is the pornography which makes a person want more than sex, nothing can satisfy a porno viewer, , if we look at all the causes we need many solutions, but the best thing to start with is building awarness for the children.

First off, there was enough evidence to actually arrest this person, not merely take him in for questioning. That's a fair bit of evidence. Second, yes viewing CP is a criminal activity. If this fellow just had a couple of images in his cache that MIGHT be explained away as accidental occurrences while in the course of browsing porn sites. There had to have been more than just a couple of accidental images. Arrest. Not questioning, one of two men arrested in the area. Someone with a predilection for certain aberrant behavioural traits has a very thin line between viewing and doing.

Fact verses fiction.

A difficult concept to grasp I know, but one worth researching further!

In my mind looking at or distributing child pornography is nearly as bad as committing the act itself. The mere fact that someone wants to look at that is sick and these people need help!
10:51 June 19, 2009 by Jeffi
Those who view it are merely continuing the cycle. And the more "consumers" of this disgusting material that are prevented from accessing it should gradually result in a drop of available material. Makes no difference, viewing or doing. One is still contributing to the exploitation and abuse of children in either form.
08:59 June 28, 2009 by Wronglyaccusedbutfree
It absolutely disgusts me how a dead man who can NOT defend himself is treated by vigilantes, on this forum and elsewhere. I have unfortunately had the experience of being FALSELY accused of this crime. It is very easy to happen. Someone out there tapped into my wireless router and the police came along and arrested and charged me for something I did not do. The evidence? They used two video clips of ADULTS that my teenage son had downloaded and deleted to charge me!

I may not be in your country, but I urge anyone visiting here to visit the site inquisition21 where you will see the absolute fraud that police are capable of. In the UK, nearly 1500 people were wrongfully charged as a result of just one operation! The police exagerate statistics, and this has been proven. Why? because it means big money to them because the governments have granted the UK, Australian, Canadian, and US Police large amounts of money to further thier cause.

While this text was too incoherent for me to understand it, i did smell something foul.
09:17 June 28, 2009 by shpongle
Why? A person in their custody commited suicide.

Not that I really care to get involved in this discussion, but I do love it when someone starts a reply like this and then offers personal opinions and does not explain what their "experience" is.

So what is you experience? as a police officer, social worker or perhaps first hand as a pedo?

procrustes: "So by your logic MorbidMIss, people who look a pictures of women are rapists?"

A rapist is someone who commits the act of rape, so googling porn doesnt make u a rapist. Someone who enjoys looking at pictures portraying rape in particular- may have serious issues but cant be regarded a rapist. On the other hand, a pedophile doesnt have to commit the act of molestation or rape to be a pedophile.

If you visit CP sites, exchange pictures & videos, communicate w/ other pedophiles, then you are supporting molestation & exploitation of children by creating a demand or spreading such images

I agree death penalty is wrong. What we need to do is 1) protect potential victims and 2) examine our society to c what is it exactly that breeds these diseased minds. Would a flawless system produce so many child molesters, rapists, serial killers etc? These ppl are not "monsters", they are a logical consequence of something gone terribly wrong within our human society.
