A blog post comparing file sharing advocates to rapists has caused a backlash for the feminist member of the Riksdag who authored the entry.

Last Sunday, Annika Qarlsson, who also heads the board of the Centre Party’s women’s organization Centerkvinnorna, reflected on her blog about the success of the Pirate Party in recent European Parliament elections.

“[H]ere’s a thought and a reflection connected to the Pirate Party’s success with many young men, who voted for them in order to protect their personal privacy. [I’m] thinking about the statistics which came out the other day that show there are innumerable young women who are raped by young men who they barely know or don’t know at all,” wrote Qarlsson.

“And I can’t make sense of it – do young men think that privacy is important or don’t they?”

Readers of Qarlsson’s blog responded to the post with a wave of more than 162 comments, the vast majority of which were highly critical of her line of thought.

“To collectively lay blame on a group of people for what a few individuals do is neither fair nor especially intelligent. Moreover it’s far from being liberal,” wrote one commenter.

Another commenter poked fun at Qarlsson’s analysis.

“Did you know Annika that 80 percent of those who die in car accidents ate tomatoes the day before. Shouldn’t you fight for a ban on tomatoes?” the person wrote.

Qarlsson attempted to backtrack in a later blog post, apologizing to readers for being “vague”.

“I realize that my earlier post can be interpreted to mean that I’m accusing all Pirate Party supporters and all young men of being rapists. That is not the case,” she wrote on Tuesday.

Qarlsson explained she was calling on young men to display the same level of engagement for privacy issues when it comes to rape as they appear to display when it comes to privacy and the internet.

“What I’m looking for is that all men’s engagement reaches the same heights every time a young woman’s privacy is violated, which has consequences for the rest of her life,” Qarlsson wrote.

The challenge, according to Qarlsson is trying to make the connection between the privacy over one’s body and privacy on the internet.

“The respect demanded to have freedom on the internet is exactly the same as demands made by young women when they are out on the streets and in city squares,” Qarlsson told the Realtid.se news website.

“It’s about being respected so that someone doesn’t tread on me or my rights. For me, there are a lot of similarities. That’s why I wish that the issue encompassed that sort of engagement. That was my train of thought.”

In a final blog post on the issue, Qarlsson admitted that the wording of her original post was “misguided” and “totally wrong”.

If the supporters are rapists(people getting pleasure(copyrighted material)) then the record labels are prostitutes(selling pleasure(copyrighted material)).
20:23 June 17, 2009 by Uncle
Young men are also the target market for fast cars. Why Ms. (I am sure it is Ms.) Qarlsson is not proposing to ban the car sellers to sell sports cars and bikes to them, because they rape a lot in general? The same men also do not care much for the menstruation suffering of women, which should be punishable by ban on the men voting rights.

All the interests of young men should be concentrated 24/7 on the problems of women without any questions. Nothing else should matter until the women will have no problems whatsoever. While the ones who by chance did not rape, shall answer also, because they surely did not notice the new haircut of Ms. Qarlsson.
20:57 June 17, 2009 by peropaco
Ms. Qarlsson with a Q. probably doesn't get a menstruation any longer. She seems way past those days many moons ago. Do you think low self esteem prompted her to replace the usual C or K with a Q? One day she probably had a lack of oestrogen moisten up her juices and that explains the Q- O_o

"All the interests of young men should be concentrated 24/7 on the problems of women without any questions. Nothing else should matter until the women will have no problems whatsoever."

Never happen, coz women will just make up more problems - and although that might offend a couple of women, ladies, you know i'm right.

When i think of these hardcore feminists theres always one joke that comes to mind:

what do you tell a feminist with two black eyes?

Nothing, you've told her twice already!

Anybody noticed things have gotten really screwed up once women got the chance to vote?

(hehehehehehe)

Q. What's the differnce between a terrorist and feminist?

A. It is possible to negotiate with a terrorist.

How do you get from her admittedly dumb comments to deciding that she is a "harlot"? Are you always this angry? And whether she menstruates or not is really not germane to this discussion.

Yes, everything was much better when only men ruled the world. Adolf Hitler, such a lovely moustache.

It's a real wonder...all these johns on this forum seem to have forgotten their mothers. Maybe they were all created by men.

I do no consider this especially controversial. I just equate this to a kid in Philosophy 101 raising her hand and rattling off some incoherent nonesense.
22:38 June 17, 2009 by Gustav- Fælbönnran
You think punching women in the face is funny?
22:49 June 17, 2009 by Streja
Gustav, he's obviously a bully, like one of those guys who gladly sent young men to war to be used as cannon fodder whilst sitting on his fat arse escaping real action.
22:58 June 17, 2009 by spy
I think violence against women is the lowest of the low but I suspect he was trying to wind you up rather than be a bully.

To go back to the point I think the best argument against feminism is a five-minute conversation with a feminist.
23:04 June 17, 2009 by 7
it's always the "clever" ones who feel threatened by women (and can't stand it when they're dumber than the woman they think should be the dumb one)

ezee can only feel masculine enough when he's beaten a woman. sad really.
23:08 June 17, 2009 by Streja
That's funny. I never wind people up by saying that I like beating up men. Funny that.

Anyone who thinks that it is funny to wind people up by saying that they enjoy beating women is seriously disturbed.
23:09 June 17, 2009 by 7
using 'jokes' advocating violence towards women isn't either funny or a cool tactic to wind people up. it's an indication that he thinks women are ok to demean and threaten (even if he'd never consider being violent himself). shall we try to rile up some jews using gas chambers jokes?

cool. go

*sets timer to 5 minutes
23:10 June 17, 2009 by Streja
It's as if Jews or other groups in society who are treated badly deserve to be winded up as some sort of sick joke. It's not funny and it's not entertainment.
23:11 June 17, 2009 by 7
you have much more charming ways of winding people up.
23:11 June 17, 2009 by Streja
!!!!!!!

Great minds eh?

Weird that...exctly my view as well.
23:12 June 17, 2009 by 7

Ok, germanic tribes? They were really oppressed by Southern Europeans at one point...only because they wanted those Southerners to wear trousers!! I say let's give them some cultural lessons!
23:34 June 17, 2009 by spy
I agree arguably he made a bad joke but it did not seem to me to be a call to violence. I can understand if you were irritated - as was I over your reference to war.

As a former member of the forces I felt you were demeaning those soldiers (men and women) who have put their lives on the line on operations. Soldiers are no longer drafted - they volunteer proudly. Also not all senior officers are men.
23:45 June 17, 2009 by Streja
spy, you can't read properly.

You see what really bugs me are evil men who think it's ok to lure young guys, sometimes as young as 18, to volunteer for wars where their job is to kill other young men while the fat cats earn a lot of money going to war. I don't see how that is demeaning to soldiers.

Do you think war is a good thing then? See it seems rather strange that some men think it's ok to kill people only because there is a war. The only just reason to go to war would be to defend yourself against invasion.

Some countries have conscription as well still you know, but did you assume I was talking about an English speaking country?

Women give birth in pain and then some nutter thinks it's ok to just destroy life with the touch of a button. I will never understand that.
23:47 June 17, 2009 by 7

23:50 June 17, 2009 by eZee.se
@Grandma, my reply was not directed at you either... but to all biddies who think like you :)

And... i still think thats a hilarious joke... to tell women like... well, you.

Apparently you missed my little "hehehe" or just didnt want to pay attention to it because you were so "taken aback" by my joke, for the love of god, stop hating men with their evil pen!ses and enjoy a joke now and again no matter what its about otherwise you do sound like you haev a stick up your behind.

But im not replying to flame anybody, so heres a peace gesture from me.. to you:

23:53 June 17, 2009 by Streja
None of us hate men, but we're wondering why you hate women so much that you feel the need to make jokes that are offensive.

I could make a joke about small boys being raped by pedophiles and hen I might say hehehehe but it doesn't make the joke funny does it?

I would never do that of course, because I know that it would not be ok or funny. You're really not very smart.
23:59 June 17, 2009 by 7
i read that one and understood your references but ezee and spy are using "you" and i'm not sure who "you" is/are
23:59 June 17, 2009 by spy
No war is not good but it is sometimes necessary - sometimes nations must take a stand.

Both Men and WOMEN do volunteer proudly for operations and conscripts do not go to war.

As for the rest of the tosh you wrote I can only say (and I hope it increases your neurotic temperament) that I can see why you spend your life ranting on a computer to strangers. Goodnight and sweet dreams my dear.

Did your husband buy you a computer to keep you off his back you loonie?

@Streja, i dont hate women, i have a mom and two sisters who i am very close to, furthermore if i even saw a woman in danger i would be one of the first ones to step forward to help in nearly any way i can.

When my "middle eastern neighbors" on top were having a quarrel i heard something that sounded like a hit then a feminine scream and i was the one who called the cops.

Sexist jokes are the funny no matter which sex, and thats the truth.

@Grandma, sorry, you are too much of a moron to even try to talk sense to so i'm going to stop trying. Say hi to your carpet munching friends for me tho :))

what's the war thing about now?

offended by a joke? who the hell gives a rat's ass to be offended by a joke. i think people thinking violence towards women makes for a funny haha moment probably have issues with women who could kick their asses either physically and/or intellectually. it's always an easier out when in debate to offend and demean than combat with clearly thought out rhetoric.

to dumb that down for the needy...smart people express ideas, not smart people put people down who disagree with or threaten them.

Rapists are irrational. Likewise linking rape to a desire for privacy on-line. I guess that AQ meant men should have at least as much respect for a woman's right to the privacy & security of their person as they claim for their on-line activities. I hope she has as much concern for men who are also subjected to rape & would I hope extend to them as much right to said privacy & security. Apparntly Canada is not the only country that does not attract only it's best & brightest to public office.

AQ must have attended PETA's propaganda 101 seminar (re: Obama's killing a fly).

As for the absolutely fetching commentary by some of the men folk in this thread, one cannot help but wonder when the last time they touched a female (other than their mother, sister, aunt, etc...) was. Furthermore, makes you wonder how they would feel if someone was using their mother, sister, aunt, daughter, etc... as the butt of the joke.
11:28 June 18, 2009 by High Priestess Kang - Slut
Isn't there a distinct difference between a funny-ha-ha joke and a punch-the-bitch-in-the-face joke?

Tongue firmly in cheek ...of course.
11:39 June 18, 2009 by Nemesis
She is not a feminist.

She is trying to brand people from a new political party as rapists so as to blacken there name.

Hopefully people will see through this and vote for anyone but her at the next election.
12:06 June 18, 2009 by JRuth
Setting aside the ludicrously facile thinking behind some comments here from people who think that gender hatred can be as much fun as - well, bear-baiting (yes, exactly), the point is that this politician has attempted to use crimes of violence to stir up an angry reaction from feminists - and failed. We all know rape is about control and violence, we all know that she is trying to control other people's reactions with manipulative trigger-pressing comments : ergo, she is trying to violate people's thinking.
12:12 June 18, 2009 by Streja
Qarlsson is a member of the center party, so holecutter was right about her farmer views but not about the woman part.

I also agree with the person who said it's not feminist to claim that only men use pirate bay.

However, the Pirate Party has mostly male members. I think they just managed to attract some voters that have not found a party that suits their interests. Likening it to rapists is VERY stupid.
12:19 June 18, 2009 by High Priestess Kang - Slut
But that's why I knocked the woman for her PETA-esque tactics. Not only is it entirely unfounded, it's ridonkulous. Alas, she won because people are talking about her and her stupid message.

As for being up early, sadly...yes. :grumbles:

Although you can argue about the headline grabbing quotes from this government block politician - some of the underlying points are worth discussing

If there was no form of internet regulation then stopping crimes such as child porn/abuse would be difficult. So she could be right that there are some - and probably a small minority - that have less than pure motives for supporting the pirate party into order to conceal their activities.

What is the difference between a battery and a woman?

A battery has a positive side.

What if God's a woman? Not only am I going to hell, I'll never know why.

Wanna hear a funny joke?

Women's rights.

Why do women live longer than men?

Because God adds them the time that they wasted on parking.

oh that last one is real funny
