The five best Swedish songs of the month
The summer may be (almost) over but the music will keep on playing here at The Local. Our resident music guru Paul Connolly will be selecting his top new Swedish tracks for us in a new monthly feature.
Tove Lo – Not On Drugs
Tove Lo was our number one tip at the start of the year and it’s gratifying that her last single Habits/Stay High was a hit in ten countries including the UK and US. Not On Drugs might be even bigger….
Emil & Caroline – No Swag
Emil & Caroline hail from Gothenburg and have been working with Christian Waltz. This is their second single and it’s a slow-burning, well-upholstered slab of orchestral trip-hop goodness.
Katohjärta - 100 år
Umeå’s thriving pop scene throws up another delight with this winsome, tune-heavy paean to broken hearts and cheating boys.
Mapei – Believe
Along with Seinabo Sey and Nicole Pilgrim, Mapei is leading the new wave of Swedish R&B. This is lovely.
First Aid Kit – Master Pretender (acoustic)
One of the highlights of the sisters’ most recent album, Stay Gold, just got even prettier….
