STOCKHOLM

Morrissey

Stephen Patrick Morrissey aka Morrissey is coming to Stockholm and Hovet next Wednesday.

The former Smiths frontman rarely disappoints his legions of dedicated fans and this time is sure to be no different.

The Tour of Refusal tour also pays a visit to Gothenburg on Monday June 22nd.

(Mid)Summer in the city - Skansen

The festival of Midsummer is generally a family affair and most locals will be heading for their cabins in the countryside to consume vast quantities of herring washed down with a shot of aquavit or two while dancing round a Maypole.

For those just visiting or still in the city for any other reason, Skansen is an obvious choice with which to get a taste of this quintessentially Scandinavian celebration.

They offer a full weekend of activities for what they describe as a Skansen highlight of the year.

Clay Ketter on hurricane Katrina

Photographic artist Clay Ketter was at home reading the news of hurricane Katrina that hit New Orleans when the similarities between the natural disaster and his own body of work dawned on him.

US-born Ketter headed for the flood hit area in the company of Nils Bergendahl and this exhibition is the result of their collaboration.

The Moderna exhibition also contains pieces from Ketter's entire body of work.

Manne the clown in Rålambhovsparken

Midsummer weekend fun for family members aged four and up.

Don’t expect any run of the mill mischief when Manne the Clown brings Maria and Olle to Parkteatern. They will entertain with the finest things they know - pure tunes and spotless shenanigans in the performance Ett rent nöje.

Ikea at Liljevalchs

A major exhibition about the global behemoth of a company that has furnished, well, the world.

Billy, Ivar and many of the contemporary and bygone favourites will be on show for those interested in quintessentially Swedish interior design.

Volvo Ocean Race 09 - Stockholm Stopover

The gruelling Volvo Ocean Race 09 is nearing its destination of Saint Petersburg after nine months sailing the oceans of the world.

Stockholm is the destination for the next stopover and over half a million people are expected to attend the "Race Village" over the 11 day yachting event.

Music, yacht racing and much more are on offer in the village on Skeppsbron and in Kungsträdgården.

GOTHENBURG

Uefa European U-21 Championship

The west coast towns of Malmö, Helsingborg, Halmstad and Gothenburg host Uefa's flagship tournament for the stars of the (near) future - Euro 2009 U-21.

The football festivities continue this week with the final group matches and semi-finals.

The tournament line up includes teams from Spain, Germany, Belarus, Sweden, England, Finland, Italy and Serbia. The final will be held on Monday June 29th in Malmö.

Midsummer at Liseberg

Sweden's largest amusement park, Liseberg, offers Midsummer festivities for those visiting Gothenburg or staying in town for the weekend.

There will be dancing and general merriment on both Midsummer's Eve and Midsummer's Day.

AC/DC

Legendary heavy metal rockers AC/DC come to Gothenburg's Ullevi and yes, Angus will be wearing his school uniform.

The veteran band released Black Ice on October 20th and drop by Sweden on their world tour to promote it.

MALMÖ

Cirkus Saga at Sommarscen Malmö

Cirkus Saga will be touring Malmö's park theatres with their brand of high jinks, breathtaking acrobatics and juggling over the midsummer weekend.

A family performance.

"Sommarscen Malmö" is the city's summer parks program of free arts and culture events.
