A police officer has been re-assigned and reported for making insulting gestures with his middle finger at youths in the suburb of Rosengård in Malmö.

The officer's superiors fear giving the gang of youths the finger could have jeopardized months of patient work to develop positive relations with local residents in the troubled suburb, according to local newspaper Sydsvenskan.

The incident occurred on Friday when two off-duty police officers visited Skåne police department's station in the Herrgården area of Rosengård.

When the officers left the area by motorbike they passed a gang of youths who had assembled on the other side of the road. The police officer then proceeded to wave his middle finger in a provocative gesture.

The officer's gesture was witnessed by several of his colleagues at the scene.

"It is indefensible. A police officer just does not behave like that. We have a sensitive situation in Rosengård where we have worked hard over an extended period of time to develop positive relations with residents. There is now a risk that this process has been set back," said senior police officer Bengt-Åke Malm to the newspaper.

The police officer concerned has now been re-assigned to an internal post and has been reported.

The accompanying officer has been removed from service in Rosengård to avoid the risk of provocation.

I can not believe that he has been reassigned for something like this. If I was hanging out with my friends, and a cop did that I would think of it as funny and pathetic. I would definitely not want to riot. If they are afraid of that, then maybe there is something wrong with the mentality of the residence there.

I personally would never want to work as a cop in that neighbourhood, they talk of the tense relations between the youths and the cops, why is that then? Search for Rosengård on this web site. You will not find anything positive.

I do not defend the police officers actions, but there is more to this. The officer in question may just have been to the end of his wick, and having to deal with uncooperative youths who really do not care, I can't blame him.
17:39 July 5, 2009 by odinmp5
its obvious that this cop has been under too much stress.

i dont justify him, but i cannot blame him.

Rosengård is a place where many youths throw stones to cars just for the fun of it. in order to stop a fight the police has to send even three cars, one to take care of the matter and the other two to take care of themselves.

it would be nice to offer each of this idiots a considerable sum of money so they can leave sweden.
18:26 July 5, 2009 by kafirist
Much ado about nothing. Maybe the single finger indicated he wanted a unified Sweden. ;)

Some people call the issues facing this area Racism. I really hate the way minorities have used this word for political and social support in resent years. The true description of the problem here is ideology. I live my life by a group of rules, laws, or ideals. Most people call this common law, or more specifically Swedish Law. In this area they look at it is a recommendation, something to spit at, or make fun of.

Times are changing, segregation is increasing, and talk of this around the common Swedes dinner table is elevating. If something is not done about this soon, the path will be laid out for Sharia becoming the basic law in Sweden. I can guarantee that there are people who have proposals for this in the area mentioned today. They will justify it by "a way to appease the conflict" and it will eventually be ratified.

"The officer's gesture was witnessed by several of his colleagues at the scene."

Was it the youths or the colleagues for whom the finger was intended? Folk are becoming too sensitive. Sounds like it was just good natured fun.
22:31 July 5, 2009 by Nomark
Compared to the type of police brutality endemic in many countries, this is utterly trivial.

Somewhere along the line the media have got things back to front, probably to avoid tackling the real issue. The problem is not that members of the police force sometimes overstep the mark with gestures or words. For this the culprits should be punished but these actions should be seen as being a small aspect of the greater problem which the media (+ mainstream politicians) are all too often scared to address i.e. that certain parts of Sweden are drifting towards a potentially catastrophic breakdown in law and order.

It is the unwillingness to take on and openly discuss the complicated mix of deprivation, crime, racism, poorly directed immigration o.s.v. which is allowing the Sverige Democrats to gain support.

I've long been a supporter of immigration, not least since Sweden needs more immigrants to pay future pensions. However, the way its been handled over the past twenty years has been cack-handed at best.
22:53 July 5, 2009 by Coalbanks
I remember the days when cops gave me the finger - all of them actually, applied with some vigor to the back of my head for "loitering & creating a nuisance".
23:18 July 5, 2009 by jack sprat
Quite agree Nomark,

The Govt like Nero is fiddling while the country is smouldering and the fuse is getting shorter.

There could be increasing problems in immigrant areas as the recession bites harder.

There are rapidly worsening problems with Swedish youth with their increasing disregard of authority.

The Govt is content to bury its head in the sand, while the obviously frustrated police with their limited powers seem pretty well helpless, in addition to possibly lacking the will to take any firm action.

OK, we have seen worse in the UK,but in many areas such as low tolerance zones, things have improved, and at least some positive action is being taken.

As one example, the footie yobs no longer rule the stadiums and surrounding areas in the UK with only minor disturbances in relation to the large attendances.

The same problem exists on a smaller scale in Sweden, yet is allowed to continue, despite the know-how and equipment being readily available to sort it.

Lets just hope that the powers that be, wake up fairly soon.

I do not appreciate to how the policeman acted by showing the finger to the youths.

I think the youth should be beaten badly. Like the way they would be beaten in their native country where their parents came from originally.

Police here are good. They treat everyone well. Those are adults. The youth is grown up. They should be rather jailed prison.

Let the youth go to their own country for justice.

These youths are only following the exmaple set by their pathologically narcissist Prophet Muhammad. Islam is not a religion it is a cult. The youths act this way because Muhammad tells them not to make friends with and instead despise Jews, Christains and unbelievers. As Voltaire put it, "Those who make you believe absurdities will make you commit monstrosities."
01:52 July 6, 2009 by Playmaker
Stuart Parsons you are so right. i like you and how you think. do you live in stockholm i would like to have a beer with you. i agree so much expect about the prophet sh*t. he is more like a war mongor. and islam is more like a political party i think. wanting to make certin laws that fits them. this crap with the finger is bull. i thought the police should stand up for each other. i just really hope they riot so sweden can see what that scum is really like.
08:48 July 6, 2009 by bengson
@svenskdod - to call someone with names such as minorities is also a sign of discrimination.

To all of you who express your hatred on Islam, I wonder how much do you really know about religion since it is something that is somehow virtual in Sweden. We all know that most Swedes do not have any religion. The so called minorities are special because they have a history - they came from somewhere ,What do you have apart from celebrating the same things every year? They have a story to tell about their real lifes to generations and gnenerations thats why they are closer togather swedes are not unless they know you and the excuse given most of the time is we are reserved!

Anyway the point is the more you become obssessed with minorities or muslims existance in sweden the stronger you make them.It gives them the courage and motives to fight you more and get to know you better .
10:08 July 6, 2009 by peropaco
When reading comments like those vomited from Stuart Parson's et all; gives me the most mortifying thoughts which leaves me disgusted yet, barely surprised. I have not so much as an unreasonable amount of scintilla that they were abandoned as kids and left to be raised by some dysfunctional tornadoes trash relatives. Your sophistry of collective thinking defies all reasoning to your own hindrance and that makes you very dangerous. To condemn a group of people for their religion is plain ol sick and wrong.

Peropaco, the Jewboy!
10:17 July 6, 2009 by Stüpid
In sweden everyone is treated equally ... i mean the man and woman.

It is sad that in some countries woman is treated and valued 100 times more than a man. If a woman dies all care. But if a man dies they give less importance or just neglect.

They mention youth...Youth is not children.

What is youth? they are the ones who make disturbance. Their parents are good and humble. I am sure.

Dear Swedes : I,m calling from Spain so regarding Muslims we do have some authority on the matter.

It tooked 800 years of war to finally get rid of them.

You must look at Islam not as a religion but as Stuar put it , it is a cult and religion controls absolutely everything .

In our societies we have our religion ( wich is personal ) and the goverment wich is independent from any religion.

Islam is the opposite, they are the goverment.

One example : if you are muslim and wants to became a Budist, christian under the Coran law you will be killed in some countries.
10:24 July 6, 2009 by Stockholmer
Strong argumentation, Peropaco!

I see no problem saying I find a religion and its expressions appalling – just as I must be free to like or dislike political schools.

This said: being a Muslim, Christian, Nazi or Jew doesn’t make a person less a human. It is the standpoint they have taken, the way they choose to behave, that everybody must be free to criticize.
10:35 July 6, 2009 by Stüpid
I am too sarcastic now.

The christian girls who have muslim boyfriends support Islam. But, I treat them like if they talk about religion. They think others do not understand Islam well.

The point here is the youth are matured enough to integrate into swedish society. They are free to escape from sweden and apply as refugees in outside of EU.
12:50 July 6, 2009 by svenskdod
It is interesting how people say that everyone, who shades islam in a dark light, have no knowledge or understanding of the subject.

In western countries, laws regarding women for example, were more archaic than Sharia law till very recently. France only caught up in the 1960's. It is even said that English common law was based on Sharia, brought over by the Normans.

The unfortunate thing here is it has not changed in centuries, and we live in a different time. In one case in Yemen, a husband was paid compensation when his ten year-old bride requested a divorce after being repeatedly raped and beaten. Even a hint of that ideology in our society needs to be stamped out.

I have no problem with the people, it is the ideology that is the problem. And to bengson, I myself am a minority here, and saying that calling someone a minority is racist, then you are just another part of the problem, using that word to gain political and social clout.
12:50 July 6, 2009 by Dr. Dillner
I need to know more . . . the rest of the story, that is. What prompted the officer to do that? What did the onlookers do to provoke the officer? Without context, I cannot make a judgment upon the officer.

Its really sad to read some of the comments spreading WRONG information about Islam, because its just spreading hate nothing else. You just need to get the CORRECT info about Islam because there are a lot of misconception and rumors about it, and also need to think outside the box. It is strictly prohibited in Islam to even saying a bad word to a non-muslim. Whoever marries an underage girl, kills anyone just for the sake of being non-muslim and anything which is against humanity is said to be punished. There are a lot of actions if a muslim takes he or she will automatically be OUT OF ISLAM. If one says that he is a muslim but acts against it is not the fault of the religion but of the person... Unfortunately a lot of people are disgracing the religions due to their own deeds which they commit in the name of religion... which disgraces the religion.

Several non-muslim states and organizations have adopted Islamic laws and systems. Well its a long discussion and can take days and days but rite now plz take a look:

Christian scholar George Geordac comments:

“There is nothing the in the United Nation Human Rights declaration except that you would find its equivalent in the constitution of Ali ibn Abi Taleb, but then you would find in his constitution greater values and of higher essence.”

Kofi Annan, the UN secretary states:

“The words of Ali ibn Abi Talib, ‘O Malik! The people are either brothers in religion or your equal in creation’ must be adhered to by all organisations and it is a statement that all humanity must embrace.”

After a few months, Annan suggested that the document of Imam Ali must be considered from the legal viewpoint, and after lengthy studies and considerations by the UN Legal Committee, member states voted that the document should be considered as one of the sources of International Law.

May God Almighty guide and bless all of us,

Peace

The rather scant news report mentioned nothing about the gang's race or religion as I suspect that this had nothing much to do with the story.

As an aside I have noticed there are a proportion of people who rant constantly about Islam and another proportion who get wound up by it and rant back. Consequently I think there is a tendency to miss the point which in this case is the action of a very stupid police officer.

One reason why I am not a muslim. Freedom of speech. I am free to insult you and you me. You may choose not to do so because of your religion. But don't you dare try to dictate what I should and should not do.

Is Islam a club or political party? How can you "be out of Islam." Either you believe in the religion or not. If you do believe in it you're a muslim.

You sure you don't mean religion in non-plural? What other religions are disgraced by people's actions? We may have Christian pedophiles but they don't commit pedophilia in the name of Christianity, do they? Islam has a bad reputation because so many people kill in the name of Islam. So yeah, good luck with that.

The officer's gesture was unprofessional but it is a minor infraction compared to the deliberate civil unrest perpetrated by Moslem gangs. Here is the link to the article in Dagens Nyheter (followed by English translation) which details problems faced by police, firefighters, other public services confronted by Moslem intifadas (as the Head of French Police so stated referring in 2007 to Moslem riots):

@Kaether- I dont need to mention what non-muslim religious groups have been doing IN THE NAME OF RELIGION in several countries both in present and in past, anyone with open eyes and mind can see himself... but only if he or she is ready to face the truth otherwise its useless to argue my friend. Also please get some knowledge about Islam and other religions then you will find out how one gets out of a religion. Regarding freedom of speech... thats the only reason all are fighting and facing these problems. Islam recommends the peaceful way to convince someone on any matter. It is an Islamic quote that THERE IS NO STRICTNESS IN RELIGION... but unfortunately i'll again say that Islam has been sketched in a very wrong way to the people now, and I'll admit that the SO CALLED MUSLIMS who are doing wrong in the name of Islam are responsible for that... but who knows they are really muslims or just pretending to disgrace Islam??? I have several stories about secret agents of non muslim countries who lived most of the years of their lives in muslim countries pretending to be a muslim and they kept doing terrorism n stuff. One recently caught in Pakistan who was a non-muslim and came from another country but he pretended himself as a Taliban leader for several years.

Things are so messed up my friends... its not the time to make them worst we should try to talk to each other and sort them out instead... without being biased.

Peace

@swepk please tell me what other non-muslim group are doing in the present in the name of religion. every war on the planet has muslims involed in it. now china is having there problems. every western country has problems with muslims. look how they act over a cartoon in a small newspaper. that should say it all. a finger from a cop is nothing. i have had cops say much worse to me in MO. i think i would rather of had a finger from them. oh dont throw the nazi word around because you know it has strong influance. that word is used to much knowing the real nazi's in the 30's 40's were just that the real thing. there is no more real nazi per say. because you dont like immigrants or muslims does not make you a nazi and you know it or you are stupid. and islamaphobe is also a new word a made up word made by muslims.
21:36 July 8, 2009 by Stüpid
China is not a humble country to tolerate such activities. They will wipe out whoever comes on streets and throws stones.

It's not a generous country like EU or sweden to just neglect things easily. It's like a nightmare for Muslims in China. I really feel sorry for them as they can do nothing and cannot make disturbances.
21:41 July 8, 2009 by Stüpid
I personally hate immigrant youth. I have right to think who I like and who I dislike. It's my personal choice.

I saw in bus some immigrant kids were saying in bus. Fy fan polis. They saw some cars going today in city too many. Why would children say like that? Because the youth talk bad about polis so their younger brothers follow. Immigrant fathers are good and they just live their life humbly. But youth are racists.

Winston Churchill On Islam

A quote from an 1899 book by Winston Churchill, "The River War", in which he describes Muslims he apparently observed during Kitchener's campaign in the Sudan

How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property - either as a child, a wife, or a concubine - must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.

Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen; all know how to die; but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science - the science against which it had vainly struggled - the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome.
