Swedish press in Britney Spears boycott

Sweden’s four national newspapers plan to boycott Britney Spears' upcoming concert in Stockholm to protest what they see as unreasonable demands for the use of pictures taken at the concert.

“If they don’t rip up the contract, we’re not going to take any pictures,” Roger Turesson, the photo editor at Dagens Nyhter (DN), told the newspaper.

Turesson’s counterparts at Svenska Dagbladet (SvD), Expressen, and Aftonbladet have also agreed to keep their photographers away from the concert, set to take place at Stockholm’s Ericsson Globe Arena on July 13th.

In the contract presented to media outlets wishing to take pictures of the concert, arrangers included a number of extraordinary restrictions.

Among other things, they demand that pictures from the concert not be published after 30 days and that no pictures be offered for resale.

In addition, the contract prohibits papers from publishing pictures of Spears which arrangers deem unflattering and states that the US pop star be given ownership rights to the pictures her management finds favourable.

“We never agree to give up ownership rights to our own material,” said SvD photo editor Joakim Ståhl.

Concert arrangers AEG Live claim they are merely passing along a contract which originated from Spears' management and that it is the blonde pop diva herself who sets the conditions.

“I think it’s equally frustrating every time I have to send out a contract like this,” said AEG Live spokesperson Louise Vanerell.

According to DN’s Turesson, it’s possible a solution may be reached in the last minute, but only if concert arrangers change the contract.

Upon learning of the actions of the Swedish colleagues, photographers in Denmark on Friday said they were ready to boycott the Britney Spears concert due to take place this Saturday in Copenhagen in a display of Scandinavian solidarity.

“On behalf of the Danish press as we have chosen the same procedure,” Claus Lunde, photo editor of Denmark's Ekstra Bladet newspaper, told The Local.

Lunde said the action applies to all publications which fall under the Berlingske Media group, one of Denmark's largest,

“We will boycott coverage of Britney Spears if the organizers don't change the photo contract for the concert on Saturday.”

According to Ekstra Bladet, the Danish concert arrangers, ICO Concerts, are looking at whether the contract for photographers in Denmark contains similar clauses to the one received by press photographers in Sweden.

She had one good single 10 years ago for a song she didn't even write. This is not a musical event its an exercise in marketing. I wish someone would have 'hit her one more time' a little harder. Ouch.

It's a concert by a pop star as part of a European tour. WOO. Maybe the papers could find something else to get on their high horses about - I don't even see the need for them to send snappers to the gig. It's Britney Spears, not Elvis Presley's one off comeback concert. She will be miming anyway, as she has done all the way through the tour. Why do Swedish papers treat the arrival of pop stars as some sort of royal visit? They get their knickers in a twist every time Metallica or Bruce Springsteen turn up with blanket coverage of every little thing they get up to. Try doing a bit of 'news' for once, Swedish papers.

Yay, Scandinavia! Boycott this pathetic little meat puppet. Boycott that old chick that she kissed on TV, too. Meanwhile, the rest of us will just keep ignoring them.

No pictures from the Swedish press....oh no, cancel the tour! As if Britney or any of her management could care less.

everybody should boycott the entire concert and not go.She is talent less sure she can sing but if susan boyle was good looking like britney spears im sure she would be bigger then britney.she is nothing but a marketing tool to give he record company alot of money. There is alot more talented people out there but why is britney so popular?? a example of her talent is repeating the same words through a entire song

The Swedish press lead the world in rejecting the odious marketing ploys of the music business. Its not as if Spears was of any importance anyway.

I was photographing the headline act last night at a festival in Oxfordshire, England and thier management tried to put restrictions on at the last minute, but the Festival office argued that they had already agreed to the frstival standard conditions of three songs then out.

Last year at the same festival the headliner on Saturday first wanted to restrict the photographers to two songs and to clear backstage earlier than usual, then they bannished us to the sound stage at night. Half the photographers did not even bother to take paictures and the rest of us gave up after a couple of frames and most went home.

If they don't want publisity, fine, but don't go all control freak about it. As someone else indicated it seems to be more image than substance.

She is duty bound to do everything possible to help the organisers of the event to make maximum profit for the money they invested in her. It is a pity that Britney has got nothing to lose but the organisers. She would get her money whether people come or not and it will not affect her rating. However would affect the willingness of other stars wanting to come to sweden in the future. i am not a fan of britany anyway. Det angår inte mig
