STOCKHOLM

Stockholm Jazz Fest 2009

The Stockholm Jazz Festival is one of the larger events of the city's entertainment calender. The festival's 26th edition comes to a close this weekend on the picturesque island of Skeppsholmen in the heart of the city.

More than 60 artists are taking part this year and remaining highlights include Sonny Rollins (US), Timbuktu, Gilberto Gil (BRA), Joss Stone (UK) and Erykah Badu (US).

Price: 1,955 kronor for the festival pass or from 445 kronor for a day pass

Cut my legs off and call me shorty!

Cut my legs off and call me shorty! is an exhibition that explores elements of humour and surprise. The main exhibition features work from five Sweden-based artists expressing ideas and ways to force us to look, and look again.

Tensta Konsthall cites US writer E.B.White in describing the essence of the exhibition: "Analyzing humour is like dissecting a frog. Few people are interested and the frog dies of it".

Leo Leoson & Armand Mirpour

Influenced by Bob Dylan and Radiohead, Swedish-Indonesian Leo Leoson reminds you of Jeff Buckley or a mellow Jason Mraz. 19-year-old Leo preaches a message of love and harmony in his soulful, often melancholic, lyrics.

The second part of the evening's double bill is Armand Mirpour and what he describes as his musical collective with a line up under constant change.

Guided summer tours of the Globe

Join a guided tour of the largest spherical building in the world - summer tours of Ericsson Globe.

To celebrate the landmark concert and entertainment venue's 20th year visitors are invited in on a tour through the secret culverts and normally closed paths and get an insight view on how to go about organizing major indoor events.

Visitors will also get an insight into the upcoming Skyview attraction and learn about the history of the building in GlobeExpo.

GOTHENBURG

Gothenburg art - 1960s and 1970s

Göteborg Art -1960 and 70s features art from the Göteborg Museum of Art, Röhsska Museum and other collections - art which represents the upheaval of the age and a continuous painting tradition.

The 1960s were characterised by faith in the future, full employment and a sense of freedom. The 1970s bought demonstrations, shipyard closures and industrial conflict.

Many exhibitions at the time grabbed the headlines and many are featured in this exhibition at the Gothenburg Museum of Art.

Tingsek at Liseberg

Skåne musician Magnus Tingsek is a multi-talented soul instrumentalist and has worked with established artists such as Timbuktu and Svante Lodén.

His latest album "Too Many Feelings at the Same Time" released in 2008 will form the core of his performance at Liseberg.

Gothia Cup

The world's largest youth football tournament, The Gothia Cup, comes to its conclusion in Gothenburg this weekend.

The Gothia Cup has welcomed over 800,000 youth players from 125 countries over the years. This year's week long tournament has featured over 1,500 teams and 4,000 matches across the city in a colourful festival of the beautiful game.

MALMÖ & ÖSTERLEN

Tashi Lunpho Monks

The Tibetan monks from the Tashi Lhunpo monastery have been touring with their traditional Buddhist rituals for the past three years. It is now Malmö's turn to experience their mantra, holy music, masked dance, bells, trumpets and drums in a performance that is more than slightly out of the ordinary.

Backafestivalen - Österlen

The Backa folk and world music festival is an annual event set in the rolling hills of Baskemölla in the heart of Österlen by Baltic Sea.

This year's festival features afro-beats from Music is the Weapon, local folk music from Jidder and rumba-gypsy-swing-cumbia-ompa-reggae from Faela, and many more.

The festival also offers courses in among other things, Unusual Irish tunes and Stream of Consciousness.
