Three women were sentenced to prison on Wednesday for assaulting the girlfriend of the spokesperson for the far-right Sweden Democrats.

Martin Kinnunen and his girlfriend were walking near Gullmarsplan south of Stockholm in the late evening hours at the close of Sweden’s National Day on June 6th.

A group of people accosted the couple, who were thrown to the ground where they were kicked and hit with brass knuckles.

Two of the women were arrested the night of the attack, with a third being arrested two weeks later.

Both Kinnunen and his girlfriend sought treatment at a nearby hospital following the attack.

According to the court, there was no doubt that the assault was politically motivated.

Sentences for the three women varied between ten and twenty months.

While the women were convicted for assaulting Kinnunen’s girlfriend, they were acquitted of charges that they also beat the Sweden Democrat spokesperson.

In the eyes of the court, there was no doubt that Kinnunen was also attacked on the night in question, but the judges ultimately ruled that there was a lack of evidence indicating that the three women had also been responsible for assaulting the Sweden Democrat spokesperson.

“The prison sentence is positive, but it’s strange that the assault against me was thrown out by the court,” Kinnunen told the Dagens Nyheter (DN) newspaper.

In its ruling, the Södertörn District Court wrote that the attack against Kinnunen and his girlfriend was coordinated and planned.

The assault of his girlfriend, who had previously been an active member of the Sweden Democrats, was judged to be aggravated because the women had tracked her down before proceeding to kick her in the head while she was lying on the ground.

The women, aged 20-, 21-, and 25-years-old, have also been ordered to jointly pay 23,000 kronor in compensation ($3,000) to Kinnunen’s girlfriend.

During the time of the trial, Kinnunen said he has no desire to return to his job as the Sweden Democrats’ spokesperson, citing his wishes to avoid the risks that come with the position

“We don’t live a normal life; my girlfriend isn’t doing well at all,” he told DN.

Are the names of the animals that attacked them going to be made public, or does "the right of the criminal" have to be respected once again???

odd that her assult was assualt and his wasn't?
18:47 July 22, 2009 by Nomark
I suspect there wasn't clear-cut evidence from the CCTV that has was assaulted.
21:29 July 22, 2009 by mkvgtired
It is a shame to hear he is stepping down from his position. This will encourage more attacks like this because it shows the criminals that violence will get them what they want.

This is a problem in here, not printing the culprits names. The political correctness in here is scary and something must be done.

I assume the girls were probably of either Asian or African origin and do not like what SD wants to do and the fakt that they are getting close with a seat in Riksdag.
08:56 July 23, 2009 by RedEagle
exactly they should show the names and even make a statues for them for showing those fascists what is waiting them....SD are fascists and they are the animals not the ones whom attacked them.....it seems that SD propaganda machine are sending thier kids to comment on the local

Geez...you are probably one of those that want the endless wave of muslim immigrants arrive here and take over our lives etc.

If things continue going the way they are, Swedish culture will disappear in 30 years due to muslim influx.

PS. and definatelly not "kids".

Norum you should focus your anger at the increasing amount of "White" Swedes who are becoming homosexuals rather than disparaging colored immigrants ("Muslims") who are having children naturally. By the way the white population through out the world is declining and most scientist believe it has more to do with genetics than (social engineering) human arrangements.

Most? Do you have the data to support? Or maybe just anecdotal evidence? Also, should I understand that "white population" is genetically inferior?

The attackers were Swedish left wing activists.

Seem like a bunch of real out-and-out extremists, one of them was arrested again wasn't she? When the Police raided a flat after a man was stabbed by two graffiti painters a couple of weeks ago, I think. She's the gf of one of them. An assortment of weapons was found in the flat when they were arrested. Can't find the story but I think I read it in DN.

The extreme left and extreme right are cut from the same vile cloth -intolerance, radicalism and violence.
02:47 July 25, 2009 by Bisting
Only in Sweden can you get away with aggravated assault. The assailants should have gotten a much stiffer sentence, beating up people because of their political view is crazy, if you disagree with their political views don't vote for them.
