A 36-year-old Swede resident in the United States was shot dead during a visit to his family's home in Trollhättan in western Sweden on Tuesday in a suspected murder believed to have been witnessed by the victim's two year-old son.

Several relatives, including the 2-year-old boy, were in the house where the man was found dead on Tuesday afternoon, Thord Haraldsson, head of the police anti-crime unit in Trollhättan, told news agency TT. None of the man's family members are suspected of being involved in the murder, however.

The man moved to the United States ten years ago but originally came from Trollhättan and had been on holiday in Sweden when he was shot dead, Aftonbladet reports. He had planned to leave Sweden on Tuesday.

"A forensics investigation has been conducted at the scene and a preliminary investigation has indicated murder or manslaughter," said Robert Edh, commander of the police communication centre in Gothenburg.

Police have questioned the man's relatives and spoken with neighbours in search of witnesses. A crisis team has also worked with the man's family.

The 2-year-old's mother has been contacted by the police and is travelling from the US to Sweden to be reunited with her son.

just plain sad... RIP!

This story sounds extremely odd. A 2 year old in the room and an "old man" sleeping in the same room. It sounds like a "maffia" job. Somehow I do not believe that he was just an "normal" businessman. People do not get murdered for no reason. Even heavy criminals stay away from murder unless they really have to or it is a contract job. There was probably money on his head!

hpunlimited, I think you may be right. If someone is going to break into a house they will chose one that is not filled with people. It is still very sad if a two year old had to watch his dad get murdered.

I find it totally normal that a parent and child share a room on a trip to visit with relatives.

However there is something more to this story - as the Swedish police are alluding to a "Hotbild" - threats - around the man who died - although exactly what this is is unknown

Most poker players go belly up once in a while, so it is not hard to imagine that this guy owned someone a lot of money..

That makes no sense. Why would they kill him for money? That way nobody would get any.... He had the potential to earn lots of it. In a house full of family members... methinks this has the feel of a family drama.
