Sweden has agreed to pay direct support of 50 million kronor ($6.9 million) to the beleaguered Palestinian Authority, the foreign ministry announced on Wednesday.

The money is to help pay for wages and pensions to civilians, the government said.

"A functioning Palestinian Authority is a prerequisite for a peaceful and sustainable solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict," International Development Cooperation Minister Gunilla Carlsson said in a statement.

"The Palestinian Authority is in a very difficult economic situation," she added.

Sweden's total support to the Palestinians is expected to exceed 700 million kronor this year.

Stockholm disbursed 4.73 billion dollars in development aid last year, or almost one percent of its gross domestic product, making it the world's most generous donor, according to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

wasted taxes. There's plenty to do in Sweden before filling palestinian (or other "developing countrys'") leaders' pockets...and its easy to have huge families when you' re on aid money and hand outs. Then again they've nothing else to do but....

Pas facile...
20:14 August 12, 2009 by skane refugee
Many would take issue with this 'worlds most generous donor' tag at the end of the article ... restricting the criteria to government aid only

no account is taken of the often much higher private charitable giving via NGOs/charities from other countries ...

also no account is taken of very significant transfer payments from 3rd world workers allowed real access to job markets in developed countries ... which is often cited as THE most effective 'aid' route to the developing world (e.g. Germany to Turkey, US to almost everywhere etc)

Neighbouring Jordan has done more to assist ordinary Palestinians than all other countries combined

Hahaha, this represents the political position of the EU leading ....

but believe me, does not mean anything to the people living in the destroyed land, Gaza or the west bank.

This money actually donated by ISRA ..E.... to support the US corrupted adminstration in Palestine, ABBAS and DAHALAN...
21:13 August 12, 2009 by peropaco
Instead of giving money to a corrup regime, Sweden could put that money to better use in Malmo and many other third-world neighborhoods around the country. Furthermore it is known that Sweden used to fill the suitcases of members of the Palestinian elites dating years back
22:24 August 12, 2009 by Danger_Mouse
It was better to help the people who live in the Palestinian camps (who are millions) instead of filling the pockets of the Palestinian authority guys.

If Sweden or any other country wants really to help then they should help the Palestinian people directly through approved organizations monitored by the donor e.i. the Swedish government.

But it looks just political interests nothing more...

Why did they bother making a long transaction? Why not transfer it directly to Iran and Syria for the weapons and explosives? It will never reach the people anyways.

I mean, someone HAS to sponsor the missiles that are shot towards Israel for the past 9 years... It is not for free... How about the explosive belts? Military grade explosives are not cheap nowadays. Lucky there is Sweden assisting there. Or a better idea - invest the funds into Volvo Buses that will make the buses that are sold to Israel - explosive. Taking a fast turn - boom! That will be more efficient, because the evil, evil Israel sometimes dares to actually catch the smuggled weapons and block the suicide bombers with an evil wall!

@ Uncle:

I advise you to get an appointment with a psychological doctor.

Danger_Mouse: Uncle was being ironic. No monies should be sent to those people; they have already had millions from the EU, US, UN and charities (legitimate & otherwise). Point 7 of Hamas Charter is a quote from the Koran (also in Hadith Muslim) calling for genocide of the Jews: "The Last Hour would not come unless the Muslims will fight the Jews and the Muslims would kill them until the Jews would hide themselves behind a stone or tree and a stone or tree would say: 'Muslim, servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me; come and kill him." 31.03.77 interview in Dutch newspaper with PLO's Zahir Muhsein:"The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity...only for tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct 'Palestinian people' to oppose Zionism."

@ uncle,

have some cold water and go for a walk it will deffinetly reduce the hatred and anger inside you which is certainly noot good for you and not for the rest of the mankind.

Its strange how people can make comments without having the foggiest of idea about the ground realities.

why on earth you think sweden will be intrested in palestinian pensioniers ?

i thought uncle was right on the money in a ironic way. so who gets the money? west bank or gaza strip since they fighty each other. war war war thats all mohommed know oh i mean the peaceful muslims. oh i am so confused. are they peaceful or not. NOT
17:22 August 14, 2009 by Baroness_Fredericks
You are wasting your hard earned money. These people believe in death and shall never be at peace. Don't throw good money down the drain.

I applaud Sweden once again for helping others in need. Although it may be in vain, since Israel has no intention to stop invading other lands until they have control over the entire region.
15:57 August 16, 2009 by Decedo
$6.9 is a drop in the bucket. It's a little more than chump change compared to the military aid and surveillance that the US supplies Israel.
12:48 August 19, 2009 by Danny B
To: ChrisPDX-you forgot few things.

You forgot to mention that the Israelis kidnap Christian children to drink their bloood.

You also forgot what the article in the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet with the "Israel lover" Journalist Mr.Donald Bostrum that we steel parts of dead Palestinian.

No doubt Sweden should donate the money to this journalist as the incitment against Israel in Sweden and the brain washing against Jews and what Israel is symboling.

A suggestion. Spend the mmoney in Sweden, instead of supporting a terrorist regime.

China and Israel will never stop the racism and invasion over the world. Now you understand better why Hitler wanted to invade the world.
