Sweden's opposition parties have opened up a lead of almost 5 percentage points over the governing centre-right Alliance, according to a new poll published on Friday.

The Social Democrats, Greens and Left Party scored a combined total of 49.7 percent in a survey compiled by pollster Synovate and published by newspaper Dagens Nyheter.

The four parties that make up the Alliance government earned the support of 45 percent of the 1,513 people interviewed for the poll, which was carried out from August 17-26.

The Pirate Party, which received over 7 percent of the vote in the recent European Parliament election, fared considerably worse in the Synovate poll and would receive the support of less than 1.5 percent of the electorate were a general election to be held today.

The far-right Sweden Democrats, a party that has climbed above the 4 percent parliamentary threshold in a number of recent polls, receive 3.2 percent in Synovates survey, compared to 3.3 percent in June.

Results of Synovate poll (June results in parentheses):

Moderate Party 26.7 (-1.4)
Liberal Party 8.4 (+0.6)
Centre Party 5.5 (+0.1)
Christian Democrats 4.4 (+0.4)

Social Democrats 36.3 (+2.3)
Left Party 5.3 (-0.1)
Green Party 8.1 (+0.1)

Sweden Democrats 3.2 (-0.1)
Others 2.1 (-2.0)

I'm a social democrat but I'm not so happy about this.. The social democrats haev lost it, the left party, no way, the green party HAHAHAHA, the moderates, aka the new social democrats are adopting their worst policies and I can count the good things they have done in the past 3 years on one hand. I hate religion, the Christian party is a nono (they also voted no on gay marriage and are very conservative and stu1id in general), the centre party, nope and the "liberal" party hell no.

@ The Local

Why do you include the Sweden Democrats? First of all that's racist party and that basically gives you a green light to ignore them and secondly they have less than 4% support. What makes that you include them unacceptable is that you don't include the pirate party or FI too that don't have 4% either.

If you're gonna be politically correct (I hate that) and include the nazis, no wait, I meant the Sweden Democrats, then you *have* to include those other two too. The only reason you would ignore those other two is if you support that party. That's not acceptable by any standards.

If Swedes do allow this filth to gain a foothold again, you'll be scraping the bottom of the barrel. Think before you vote!

Well thx.. it seems as what I wrote wasn't necessary. I wrote that because i believed that their support were about as strong as the Sweden Democrat's, sorry.

I am very politically left-leaning (voted for Obama, from Calif., vegetarian) but even I can see that there is only one party who is going to save Sweden and that is the Sweden Democrats.

What's so funny about the Green Party Leprechaun? I'm sick of Green Parties being laughed at as if they're some sort of frivolous single-issue fringe party. The Green political movement stands for a lot more than simply protecting the environment. They stand for local democracy, more community input into government affairs, and quite frankly are the only ones interested in solving the world's problems in ways that make sense. Take immigration for instance. The only way to stop immigration for purely economic reasons is to push for sustainability in economics and the environment in all countries, especially in the countries that economic migrants are leaving in droves.

While mainstream politics continues to consist of the same pointless bickering between the forces of the economic right and left, the world's problems go unsolved. We've gone through the Dark Ages, the Rennaissance, the Enightenment and the rise of nationalism. There's no reason why the new sustainability and Green political movement should be mocked when it's about time for the next step in humanity's social and political consciousness.

Not a pleasant thought! Do extremists care about 'green'..I think not!

I'm an immigrant myself and a 'plastic' Swede..but i think im beginning to side with SD because of what im seeing in the town i live in! Verrry scary!!
18:58 August 29, 2009 by Gwrhyr
Vladd777, what do you mean by "do extremists care about 'green'"? What is the point of that statement?

Do you think extremists care about the SD?

Do you think extremism is solved by more extremism?
19:23 August 29, 2009 by vladd777
What im saying is that extremists are not focussing on the environment per se..

SD is 'extreme' but sometimes extreme measures are necessary for the greater good.

I like Sweden and enjoy being a 'plastic' swede and i would wish that the western culture was not so extremely liberal and more moral..but in a toss up of what i know and what i don't want to know..perhaps SD is the only way??

Do you think sharia law and all that it stands for is a good thing?
18:48 August 31, 2009 by Leprehcaun
Well ain't that great?

@ racists, nationalists, possible neo-nazis (though i doubt any of them are on here, a newspaper in English and all) and confused or tricked people.

"only one party who is going to save Sweden and that is the Sweden Democrats. "

When I read that sentence I shiver. Is that what you truly believe? If yes then you scare me. You could just as well have told me that the only way to make sure that my dad survives surgery is to donate all my money to Al-Qaida so they can buy destructive things.

While the Sweden Democrats would fix most of the problems we have with immigration, which I admit are quite substantial, it's not a good solution. It is however not a party that just wants to fix the worst parts, the catastrophic parts, it also wants to fix the bad and "bad" parts.

Bad in this case means fixing the part of put migration group that isn't good (if something isn't good it doesn't mean that it is bad) and "bad" means everyone who aren't bad that are of different skin color or different cultural background or different religion. Meaning >99% of all immigrants we have ever had.

You can read it yourself on their website, their belief that a homogeneous society is the only kind of society Sweden must have. That means: out with everyone who comes from places with different cultures. People left? Nordic citizens.

Do you support this party because you want the media masturbation about us to stop or do you want future generation to hate everyone else for the fictional reason that "we're better than everyone else/we're the best"?

Oh and for your information we're not talking about starting to either use Sharia law or electing nationalistic racists.

@ Gwrhyr

I'm all for being green and all that but the green party is.. wrong. Their policies aren't the most green ones. An example is that ethanol because of its production and transportation releases more Co2 emissions than diesel during those two + usage and guess what, they want diesel to cost more because of its Co2 emissions. Diesel is the greenest alternative most of the time, at least for us but they.. well they don't know that which is just embarrassing. They want to tax everything, they would tax us half to death if they could and then choke us because of the Co2 we release when we breed out. Just like I did in the end there they exaggerate and are completely wrong about several of their policies.

@ SD supporters.

I asked already and I'll have to bloody ask again: Did you guys go to the bloody history lessons in the scholl?????? For God sake, I know there are immigration problems, but do you realy think those nuts would be any good for this or any country??? Go to their website and read what they stand for...to me it doesn't sound too different from any Hitler speach.

Behind her oafish grin lies a hidden agenda. Nothing short of a leftist totalitarian state will make her happy. Save Sweden. Defeat the social democrats in 2010!
