A looming jail sentence didn't stop a 31-year-old Swedish woman found guilty of defrauding several men she met online from luring other unsuspecting victims out of their money with sob stories and images of Playboy models.

In April, the Borås District Court convicted the woman of gross fraud, sentencing her to a year-and-a-half in prison and ordering her to pay 282,000 kronor ($35,100) in damages. She lured her male victims using a picture of Cori Nadine, an American Playboy playmate, falsely claiming to herself be a model for Playboy magazine.

Since her trial, two more men have filed police reports, claiming the woman has defrauded them of a total of 537,000 Swedish kronor ($76,000).

Prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist told Borås Tidning newspaper that the woman has maintained the same modus operandi and that the crimes are nearly identical. The woman has not yet begun to serve her jail sentence.

The previous incidents involved the woman asking the men she met online for money, regaling them with tall tales of a fictional daughter who was suffering from leukemia. The 31-year-old also claimed she was being pursued by the mob. Her heart-wrenching pleas prompted her male victims to send her more than 500,000 kronor in total.

The woman denies the new accusations and claims that the money was a loan and a gift. She was arrested on Sunday on charges of gross fraud and fraud.

I like this girl. If she managed to get money out of these fools, then she is ok in my book. Instead of sending her to prison, they should use her to attract investment in to Sweden. Get a load on the stupid laws; she gets 1.5 years for leading a bunch of married men out of money and a rapist get 1.7 years for destroying the lives of helpless women.

Playboy models are known for being strapped for cash in Sweden are they?

"Get a load on the stupid laws; she gets 1.5 years for leading a bunch of married men out of money and a rapist get 1.7 years for destroying the lives of helpless women."

and swapping a few MP3 files online will get you 2 years in the pen under the IPRED laws, gotta love the priorities here.

@peropaco

So I guess its not at all the question that she successfully abused the generousity of others with deep pockets who are keen to help.

The keyword is "keen to help" which is more than I could say for you or the non-Swedes at large.
17:04 September 8, 2009 by BHHPR
You call it being generous? wow, that is new... c'mon you really think these men were being generous? Right! This only shows how men don't think when they see a gorgeous woman in front of them... they only use one head and one head only and that is not the one that carries the brain... It is just such a shame.

@Thebinary1

Wow - you are a sucker for punishment, however, I do have to credit you for the creation of a new euphemism "keen to help", to describe egregious stupidity.

Some interesting examples of @Thebinary1's new euphemism:

1. When arrested by police for driving while 4 times over the legal limit - "officer, I was just keen to help Systembolaget with alcohol sales".

2. When your wife discovers you have been shagging the secretary (for the feminist pornographers out there, please note that I have no specified the gender of the secretary!) - "darling I was just keen to help my secretary discover their inner self"

3. When your boss discovers you have been downloading internet porn at work - "Boss, I was just keen to help support this poor website called XXXformen.com"

4. When you get caught by the cops soliciting a prostitute - "sorry officer, but I was just keen to help the national GDP"

etc. etc.

Ha ha ha... what suckers :D

I gotta get one of these scams going ;-)
19:51 September 8, 2009 by brøklyn_bjorn
Such foolish men.

They very well could have flown to Los Angeles and paid to shag many playboy models and pornstars and still have money left in their pockets. Instead of hoping to be with this supposed woman. She very well could have been a man from Lagos scamming them!
19:58 September 8, 2009 by Thebinary1
Well now ... it seems loudmouths like farnoxo and BHHPR choose to see what they wish to see as opposed to the whole picture.

Why is it that you guys focused on the 'pornstar' bit and not on the bit which says:

"The previous incidents involved the woman asking the men she met online for money, regaling them with tall tales of a fictional daughter who was suffering from leukemia."

Which cooked-up-story do you think generated the most revenue?
20:25 September 8, 2009 by Yendor
And they should throw these men into jail, their crime, being idiots and fools! The money would have been put to better use in this womans hands than these foolish men.
22:54 September 8, 2009 by BHHPR
Answering to Thebinary1... one question? why was she targeting MEN and only MEN? righ! Thought so!
11:01 September 9, 2009 by CarlBlack
It is of course stupidity from those men, but that's not only their feature: women get also tricked by similar kind of scam: Nigeria letters, inheritance, e-mail business proposals, e-shops with half prices located in China... There are too many gullible people and as a result everyone is getting tons of scam to mail boxes since this kind of 'business' apparently works. Anyway this fraudster is also not clever, otherwise she would not let herseft get caught and had already fled to some banana republic and continue 'business' from there.

The length of sentence is I suppose dictated to some extent by laws. And this is where I miss some useful information in this article: what is the possible range of sentence length for this crime?
11:52 September 9, 2009 by HagaLowlife
Exactly BHHPR. She targeted men with pictures of playboy models! I'm sure this didn't go unnoticed by her victims. Would she have managed to scam as much money if she claimed to be a fat middle aged man? If we are to believe Thebinary1, and that the motives of these men were entirely charitably, then the answer is yes. But deep down we all know it wouldn't.

This is a good time to remind you ladies that it is illegal in most countries to use the internet while topless. So, be careful of sting operations! Don't reveal your nudity to anyone with whom you chat!
11:30 September 11, 2009 by RoyceD
It is retarded that she got a fine. Give her the Nobel Prize in Economics for generating wealth from nothing and send those fools to jail for thinking a Playboy model would know how to use the internet.
20:37 September 11, 2009 by Aigbe73
So, it happens also in Sweden! This is called 419, yahoozee!
01:37 September 12, 2009 by Coalbanks
...and politicians take us for so much more with promises & tales of woe nowhere near as entertaining nor anymore likely to be fulfilled!
