"The ice dripped in the winter sun. It was the first day when the light had been intense enough to cause dripping in the sunlight. To hear it was an extraordinary wakeup call. The cycle was happening again as it always does, always will (or so we think). I imagined that on my summer island, the bees..." READ »

That adds up to approximately 1 police officer for every 450 people in Sweden.
(20k police/ 9,000,000 population)
In NYC alone it's 1 police officer for every 200 persons.
(40k police/ 8,000,000 population)
double concerto: Agreed, but that would require government to show some loyalty to the people and the nation, instead of to their left-wing and long-term agenda and for the media to do its professional job of reporting facts instead of hiding them
Most criminals come from (newly joined European countries). the steal and go back...
You could say 95% of these criminals comes from other parts of Europe and travel back to their countries with loads of stolen things. the immigrants are very scared of crimes because they are permanent residence of the country and Swedes , I hope the police tells who make first record in crimes in Sweden..
The people who enjoy fishing call it CATCH AND RELEASE!!!!!
If the police catch the criminals but the COURTS just let them go, or even worse, give rediculously light prison sentences, the message will become VERY clear!
SWEDEN IS SOFT ON CRIME!!!!
CRIME DOES PAY IN SWEDEN!!!!
When Sweden wakes up to the fact that the punishment for crime HAS TO HURT, the criminals will decide to go elsewhere!
A few years back, people were coming to Sweden to commit crimes SO THEY COULD GO TO JAIL!!! They got paid more money sitting in jail than they could earn back home! They could then send money back home for the duration of their sentence!
Is this still going on?
Jonathan, I totally agree with you that Sweden is a peaceful society. But you miss the point that crime is increasing! The real problem is that it is the Swedes in this society that are for the most part peaceful. The real problem is that people are coming to Sweden who do NOT share the values of the Swedish society.
The great thing about Sweden is that the social system protects those that have too little so in Sweden they do not have to steal to provide for their families. This idea of LAGOM creates a society that is satisfied with having just a little more than they need! People do not need to steal to get more and more things!
Then comes the criminal element that does NOT share these same values (or are driven to crime by their addictions). The addicts we catch and cleanup and try to deal with fixing the reason they are addicts. The "other" criminal elements, we catch AND LOCK UP FOR A VERY LONG TIME! Make them pay room and board while they are in prison. If they are not Swedish Citizens BY BIRTH then they should be DEPORTED!
I guarantee that the threat of LONG prison sentences and, if applicable, deportation will be enough to chase many CAREER criminals out of the country!
My country is new in EU, so a lot of people from my home country goes to work to Sweden. But there are a lot of people which goes to sweden for criminal purposes and I know a lot of them personaly. So here's an opinion about Sweden from thief's point of view:
1.Police work is very effective, but the worst problem is people who call to police immediately after they saw some criminal acting(stealing, atack and e.t.c)
2. Stealing is still easy, because Sweden is safe country with low crime rate, and peoples simply do not hide/lock some valuable things.
3. Prisons are like hotels with great food, free cigaretess, job opportunity and other things.. One man who was imprisoned in Sweden told me, that if there could be dances and some girls inside a prison, he almost could live there forever..Other told, that he got better food than he could get at home..
4. Swedes are simply good people, so criminals can apply a lot of froud/scam schemes there.
5. No one cares about sentenses(if you do not sell drugs) or fines, because you simply can leave the country and you don't need to pay.
There are o lot of simple ways to solve such problems, but i will keep my advices for my self, until I am not paid fot that..
