Swedish security service Säpo failed last week to respond to an emergency call from the Stockholm County police chief, Carin Götblad, prompting an internal investigation.

Götblad suffered an accident in her home that seriously injured her knee and left her unable to reach the telephone.

Instead, she used an emergency call button with a direct link to Säpo in an effort to get help – but no one came.

The agency is now investigating the incident, the Aftonbladet newspaper reports.

“We view what happened very seriously,” Säpo spokesperson Patrik Peter told the newspaper.

The accident took place toward the end of last week when Götblad fell and injured herself in her apartment in Stockholm.

When no one from Säpo showed up, she was forced to crawl out onto the street where she received help from a passer-by.

She was eventually taken to hospital in an ambulance to undergo an operation for the injury.

Säpo has now launched an internal investigation into why the alarm didn’t function properly.

“It remains unclear as to whether it was a technical malfunction or an error in how the call was handled,” Peter told the newspaper.

welcome to the real world. do we really have to wait for something bad to happen to the people in control for reform to take place. we all know nothing happens when you are a victim of crime. nice to see police being treated like regular citizens that aren't above the law for once. thats one back for all the people who have been done for victimless crimes. get well soon love

Just shows what an egalitarian society we live in. The Police chief is treated the same way as the guy who died of a heart attack after being told to take a taxi by the emergency services. At least she did not die

The entire system need to be changed. Maybe this time they will look seriously in to their shenanigans. Question, if she was unable to reach her phone because of the injury; how come did she manage to crawl outside?

I don't understand... The police chief falls and hurts her knee and uses an internal emergency number to call out Säpo. If I may quote from wikipedia:

"areas of responsibility are counter-espionage, anti-terrorist activities, protection of the constitution and protection of sensitive objects, including royal and diplomatic protection"

Even if Säpo slacked off on responding I thought she would wan't to keep the whole incident quiet? What with abusing resources to help her hurt knee.

She got off lucky in the end Anna Lind, Admiral Algernon, and PM Olof Palme were all victims of SÄPO incompetence or perhaps worse why should she be treated any differently?

Gee , this is unbelievable! the police chief could n't get help, let alone ordinary folks like us! Too bad for säpo

So... when they get this system fixed do we all get a little emergency button?

Something doesn't add up here:

First it says that she has "injured her knee and left her unable to reach the telephone"

Then we learn that finally "she was forced to crawl out onto the street where she received help from a passer-by".

Why in the world would she crawl to out if she could have instead crawled to her phone? I bet she has a normal line as well as one (maybe even more) mobile phone as well. Or is a passer-by more trusted than 112 nowadays?

Or, better yet, there is a lesson for us all: don't ever call emergency, call for passer-by's. Stockholm police chief must have some insider info on that, for sure.
