Sweden's foreign ministry confirmed on Saturday that three Swedes have been arrested in Pakistan.

"We have received confirmation from the Pakistani authorities that three Swedes have been arrested," Camilla Åkesson Lindblom at the foreign ministry press office confirmed.

The foreign ministry was unable to confirm the identity of the three arrested Swedes, reported to include the so-called "Guantánamo Swede," Mehdi Ghezali, who was released from the US prison camp on Cuba in July 2004.

"We have not had that confirmed. And even if we had consular confidentiality rules would apply. This is a consular matter, as normal when a Swede is detained overseas, and we do not normally discuss their identity."

According to Pakistani police information the detained trio include a small child.

"The only information that we have received is that there are three Swedes. They have not divulged age or gender," Åkesson Lindblom said.

"I can not go in to the nature of the (consular) contact, or when and so on, except to say that the embassy will work on this in the same way as with other consular matters."

According to Åkesson Lindblom the foreign ministry does not know what the three Swedes are suspected of nor where they are located at the moment.

When you stop and THINK about it "three Swedes"...how absurd and a kick in the teeth, when every man and his dog knows that the last thing these "Swedes" take after is the actual, fair minded, neutral and war hating Swede.

as per swedish authorities only 10 mosques are there. but unofficially there are more than hundread mosques operating very actively in sweden.

now in sweden the number of people going to mosque is more than any other religion. the only active and growing religion in sweden is islam .

i do not know what SÄPO is doing.

its all BS. such thing had not happened in Pakistan. why only thelocal.se is having this news. give any other link where you find this news.

@Eruostan: this is a news about arrest of 3 swedes. why do you involove religion into that. if you hate some religion dont let people hate you and your religion.

if you say that there are 10 oficial mosques in Sweden. go and see how many churches are there in Pakistan. There is atleast 1 church in every city of Pakistan. Pakistani people respect minorities they are not so narrow minded as you.

hope you will behave yourself.
16:20 September 13, 2009 by DreEstwd
A Muslim telling someone to behave themselves after what happened throughout the country last night....oh the irony.

u can never judge a religion with the Action of some people, after you read and understand the Book of revelation and the life of Prophet Muhamed carefully..take your decision, if ISlam really a religion of violance and terrorism.

thanks for ur time.

@lalb,

How much minorities from immigration do you have in Pakistan ?

And I think that Eurostan "involve religion" because it's the roots of all this mess around the world.

i can never understand the low level of debate here. Misinformed guys who are guided by hatred. Hypnotized and brainwashed people. Immoral, hypocrite and selfish people who think only about their interests.

What is the problem of Mehdi Ghezali? What did he do?

Well, first, he is not a terrorist. He is only a suspect. Second, terrorism has been abused insofar as the struggle against occupation has been criminalized. We still do not know his story. All the anti-Ghezali rhetoric here is a result of hatred towards Islam. He might be a terrorist but it is too early to say that. He could be a freedom fighter, fighting foreign occupation in Afghanistan. The terrorists are the one who occupy other's land and bombard mosques and schools. All European nations resisted the occupation before. When we talk about terrorism we should not miss the fact that the American, NATO and Israeli troops are practicing state terrorism on daily basis in Iraq, Palestine and Afghanistan.

Um, right. Who was it that once said that one man's terrorist is another man's "freedom fighter"?

Ok, this is shocking. Sweden is part of the ISAF deployment to Afghanistan, so now, our lowly rhetoric has resulted in a declaration that Swedish forces in Afghanistan are "terrorists". Amazing. Where do these kind of crazy people come from? If Swedes are "terrorists", the world really is upside down.

@ Eurostan,

Your complaint against Islam in sweden is right and it is a compliment for Islam :-) So thanks for accepting that its growing than any other religion even after all the propagandas.

For you I can find a newspaper job to keeep you busy and the world would be a bit more safer from some dumb information and ideas.
13:14 September 14, 2009 by glamshek
@Eurostan : I think you are thinking from your liberal point of view.

I accept that you have separated church from politics. I also accept that Muslims are suffering from character weakness in these times. This is also one reason why Muslims are downtrodden, oppressed and disrepected everywhere.

However, I have some questions:

1:Muslims cannot call 'Azaan' but your church bells ring continously. This is the first official discrimination that you do when you say that politics is separate from Church or Mosque or whatever.

2: Unofficially, there is a widespread racism in almost every home in Europe against people from other regions.

3: It does not need books to see the racism, just a small visit in a festival is enough to see the black and the white.

4: Why is Turkey not being given the status in Europe? That 's a big question mark for all the Europe.

And in the end I would say that Swedes should pressure US in Afghanistan to take the lead as this the headache of US primarily. As long as the sectarian, ethnic and cultural divide in Pakistan and Afghanistan is concerned, I am with you. Its a big problem there. After the 1980s, the sectarian trouble hit Pakistan and Afghanistan hard and it has roots in Pakistan. If anyone denies it, I am here to show all the realities.

BTW.. proh. moe, had tons of WIVES. the youngest was 7 years old, there is alot more stuff online too, not religous websites, coz its all bs. read up and ull know wat islam is.

you guys are the reason there are so much violence in sweden, why? because u want to inforce ur religous rules over the country. with beatings of women and people because they are wearing this and that. if u are so proud of ur religon, go back to ur own home town, and stay the f*** out of our country. more and more people are hating you.

and no you cant call Azaan becuase u do it 5 times a day at 3am, at 5 am, every minute. if u want ur azaan, go back to iraq or iran. wherever you came from. no one wants your sorry ***.
17:35 September 14, 2009 by Eurostan
you muslims always try to force your culture and religion on the other people and other countries. if someone resisted you cry and shout a lot that your religion was oppressed.

many things that are legal in islam and muslim countries are punishable crimes in other countries.

radical islam is quite strong in swedish universities.

go and see in any swedish universities and observe closely. you can see many people with beards, veils, and doing prayers in the classrooms.

Guantánamo Swede .. 500k of Swedish tax payer money wasted flying him home ? Now he's back at it.
17:30 September 16, 2009 by goodbyeammar
Tango: I think you think that you are better than others. There is no country or religion for terrorism. Of course terrorist can be a swedish. Why not? Ahven't you heard about the terrorist recent NATO attack on innocent civilians in Afghanistan? What do you call that? If that is not terrorism, then what is terrorism? i do not know why the west does not recognize others' right to resist occupation. the west wants to occupy and kill and it does not want anyone to resist it. do not tell me sweden has a peace mission. should I laugh or cry? I cannot really believe that there are still people brainwashed and believe their politicians propaganda. grow up. When America invaded Vietnam, they said it is for peace. When hitler killed so many people , he said he has mission. When napoleon conquered europe and invaded different countries, his mission was to modernize the world. Wake up.

Eurostan: I understand you. I do not blame you. You cannot see islam is growing. You do not like that. But it is a fact. Islam does not force anyone. I think u need to read history. Go and see who enslaved people and forced them. but still, I understand you. But people like you will suffer more and more. More people will be Muslims because islam is a convincing religion. So get hurt attack dude!

While the story is short on detail, it is easy to guess what's going on here. Here are my demands: 1) Immediately strip all three of their citizenship. 2) Swedish consular authorities must not lift a finger to assist these bottom dwellers. 3) May they rot in Pakstani jails.
