The fiancé of a woman missing in Falun in north-central Sweden, was remanded in custody on Tuesday by the Dalarna District Court on suspicions of having killed the woman he was set to marry.

Thirty-four-year-old Mats Alm was brought in by Dalarna police on Monday on suspicion of murder or kidnapping.

After appearing before the Dalarna district court on Tuesday, Alm has ordered remanded in custody for the killing of his fiancé, Linda Chen.

During the two hour proceedings, Alm denied having committed the crime and gave his own version of the events surrounding his Chen's disappearance and the discovery of a body suspected to be hers.

The prosecution believes Alm is lying.

A few minutes into the remand hearing, the lead judge decided to usher all media and members of the public out and continued proceedings behind closed doors.

Alm has been questioned repeatedly by the Dalarna police, most recently on Sunday, in a detailed interrogation pertaining to the disappearance of Chen and to his own erratic behaviour last Friday by the side of national highway 80, between Falun and Rättvik.

Despite strong evidence suggesting that the body found on Friday is that of Chen, police officials remain reluctant to publicly identify the body.

"We are still treating the body as an unidentified deceased individual. We are waiting on the autopsy results to provide identification details, amongst other things," Hans-Åke Hedin, a public relations officer for the Dalarna police, told TT on Monday.

Hedin was equally reluctant to reveal any of Alm's remarks in during his police interrogation at the weekend.

"We've questioned him again, but nothing has changed. He denies everything," said Hedin.

The woman's remains have been sent to Uppsala to be autopsied. Only following the completion of the autopsy will investigators be able to identify the cause of death.

Police have yet to determine the precise location where the killing took place, however, it is believed that the woman was not murdered at the same location where the body was found.

According to Hedin, it remains unclear how long the body believed to be that of Chen had lain dead in the forest before being discovered.

Hedin also declined to comment upon the condition of the body, or to clarify whether evidence of a fire was discovered at the site, but asserted that Mats Alm had no connection to the area in which the body was found.

It was on Friday afternoon that Alm appeared on the side of the road, badly burned and disoriented, informing several individuals that he had discovered the body of a dead woman in the woods.

He was driven to the hospital and, later that evening, turned over to the police, where he was held for questioning.

The same day, the body of the dead woman was also discovered in the area.

I've been following this story for awhile. When she first disappeared, the media portrayed Mats as a doting and loving fiancee. Linda was raised in Sweden, her family is also here with her, a simple search reveals this.

Re-Horakhty, you know what they say about someone assuming. Such a horrible incident, my heart goes out to her family.

I'm suprised the swedish arn't blamming this on an immirgrant. I think you can quite clearly see he isn't.

A crime is a crime whether done by locals or Immigrants, So no need of criticizing people based on race/religion/nationalities.
17:30 September 22, 2009 by DreEstwd
It's true. I was shocked that the name and the pic are there. So I guess we can deduce that if there is no name or pic, an Arab/immigrant is responsible. If there is a pic and/or name, it is a native Swede. Fantastic. Anyways, this dude should hang if he is convicted. What a piece of garbage.

Why it is ok to show the name and the picture when the suspect is swedish but not when is an innmigrant? Whats going on with the media? equal treat to everyone! Why if this swedish man is not guilty (which seem very unlikely), then by reveling his name and picture he has suffered a social cost.

sure i'm sad with this news but i'm happy the guy is white . to all those blockheads who blame immigrants for every little thing

the swedish police are too soft I think. Their interrogation techniques would be like that of a waiter in some restaurant. Use the 3rd degree and get the truth out man!

Mat Alms must definately be an immigrant. If one looks at him properly he doesnt look swedish. Dr Aronson and other other one too are not swedish. they are immigrants. the government must deport them to whatever country DreEstwd would suggest. I am sure DreEtwd agree with me on this

We can see his pic because he already exposed himself on media since his fiance disappear....

Does anyone know what is the maximum sentence for murder in Sweden? Condolences to her family

Oh and by the way DreEtwd is a baboon.
15:19 September 23, 2009 by DreEstwd
When people get absolutely schooled in debate, they resort to name-calling. I remember that from the playground when I was 10. lol.
22:33 September 23, 2009 by mkvgtired
trinaican, judging by the sentences people have been receiving lately I would say 6 years? I think DreEstwd brings up a valid point. The only immigrant's picture I have seen in the paper is of the "Swede" arrested in Packistan en route to a jihadist training camp...I mean on a sight seeing tour. His picture was widely circulated when he was released from Guantanamo so showing it again is not a big deal. Also, he has been largely exonerated by the Swedish press. Just another innocent victim of American (and now Pakistani) aggression. How about this, if you want people like that in your country so bad keep them there. Dont issue them passports. That way they can only harm Swedes who are willing to make sacrifices in the name of multiculturalism. By the way multiculturalism does work, and I am very pro immigration, but not the kind that allows anyone in regardless of how lazy and hate filled they are.
23:21 September 23, 2009 by trinaican
Not denying that 'he' raises a valid point..what I have a problem with is how he brings muslims into ANY discussion...I swear the discussion can be about the weather...he will find something islamophobic to say

and to DreEstwd...did u school me? or did I point out that you really should stop being a sheep and believing blindly what questionable stats say...hmm
01:05 September 24, 2009 by DreEstwd
No, I schooled you. And you've actually provided nothing to the discourse other than name-calling rants. Nothing factual, no substance and no statistics to make your point or prove me wrong. My statistics were from an EU-sponsored study and The Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention among others. If those aren't good enough sources then I don't think the God him/herself could convince you. Furthermore, the only time I comment on Islam/Arab immigrants is when it involves them. Maybe you should go check the article on how integration is failing in this country.
