Goalkeeper risks ban after sly goalpost move

IFK Gothenburg's Danish goalkeeper Kim Christensen has been reported to the Swedish Football Association's disciplinary board after being caught moving the goalposts in a top flight football match against Örebro on Wednesday.

Christensen came clean on Thursday saying that it wasn't the first time that he had tried to gain an extra advantage by moving the goalposts to make the goal a few centimetres smaller.

"I got the tip from a goalkeeping friend a few years ago, and since then I have done it from time to time," Christensen said to the tabloid newspaper Aftonbladet adding that at certain football arenas the posts are not fixed into the ground.

The Allsvenskan league match was broadcast on live television and there is thus no doubt that Christensen is the culprit. However the referee in the match, Stefan Johansson, was not made aware that the posts were slightly ajar until shortly before half-time.

"Had I seen it I would have warned him. I think so anyway, it is not easy to find that rule," Johansson told the newspaper.

According to Dag Wikman at the disciplinary committee had the referee seen the incident then a penalty kick to Örebro would have been the correct measure.

The Danish goalkeeper now risks a ban or a fine, after the film of his unorthodox shot-stopping method was submitted to the committee for viewing.
