Police in western Sweden may soon be able to close their files on a daring four-year old bank robbery after one of the thieves experienced a religious salvation during his time on the run.

It was back in 2005 when men on mopeds attacked two guards and made their way into the Sparbanken Gripen in Ängelholm.

The assailants then sped off on their motorbikes with several million kronor from the bank’s vaults.

Three months after the caper, an arrest warrant was issued for a 30-year-old man suspected of carrying out the daring heist.

But police ran into a number of roadblocks during the investigation’s early phases, and by 2008 it looked as if the crime would remain unsolved, the Helsingborgs Dagblad (HD) newspaper reports.

But police caught a lucky break last year when the 30-year-old suspect unexpectedly contacted Sweden’s embassy in Brazil, confessed to the theft, and then asked to return to Sweden to atone for his crime.

He later explained that he had had fallen in love with a Brazilian woman following the robbery. The couple then moved to Brazil, where the 30-year-old began studying religion.

“He had studied with the Jehovah’s Witnesses, which caused him to reassess his life. Now he sees that he must follow the country’s laws in order to be a Jehovah’s Witness and as a result wants to pay for his crime,” the 30-year-old’s defence attorney, Niclas Elison, told the newspaper.

The extradition process has taken a year, but on Monday the man stood before the Helsingborg District Court and listened as a judge ordered him remanded into custody.

While the robbery is more or less solved, authorities are still working to recover the 2 million kronor ($288,000) taken in the heist.

They are also hoping the 30-year-old man will help them locate his accomplices in the crime, despite his reluctance to do so.

“He’s willing to confess to his part of the crime, but isn’t willing to speak about any accomplices or about the money,” said Elison.

Sorry pal, I appreciate your courage and conviction in restituting for this crime, but it will not be complete if you don't name your accomplices.

If you serve your time, its ok to keep the money but if you want leniency, give what's left back. You can't be asked to pay what is spent if you will still serve time.

Now, i hope you did this for the love of God and not some religion otherwise you just wasted your time.

Ask yourself, would any other religion move someone to turn themselves in this way?

Nice try

The criminal has not "changed" yet he just joined a church.

Many have suffered martyrdom for real Christianity.Jehovah's Witnesses actually have the largest turnover of any religion eighty percent of their membership will leave at some point.

Now that's what happens when God's Spirit moves the heart.

He is no respector of persons and so works in the hearts of those who seek Him.

We need many more miracles like this.

I don't like the Jehovah's Witnesses Doctrine, but I do like some of their results. Unfortunately they twist and distort God's true words. If he experienced true change of heart, he would also turn in his accomplices.

He is halfway there

Yeah, yeah !!!!!! What the heck do you know ,viadd666, about Jehovah's Witness? OOPS! maybe you are one of them. Sure GOD definately moved my ex-dumb father in law's heart who became heartless, sold the family house and gave to Jehovah's Witness, dump my sweet mother in law and son and daugther because they refuse to join J W (by the way the house was sold without any family discussion) and married a woman who is a Jehovah's Witness!!!!! SURE your GOD difinately move the heart, but by the way, what happen to the same GOd the ALmight that give freedom of choice? To be or not to be J W is the choice of my mother in law and her children's

He shouldn't have needed the Jehovah's Witnesses to come to this decision.

Remember- The origin of all Watchtower teachings that makes them unique over all other religions is their creed of Jesus second coming 'invisibly' in the year 1914.

Why?

The Jehovah's Witnesses actually have roots with the Seventh Day Adventist, they both have common origin in the William Miller apocalyptic movement of the 18th century.

Of,course here in 2009 it is quite a stretch to proclaim Jesus advent in 1914 then try to explain "invisible" emperor's new clothes fashion, why everything is all still messed up in the world.

So,often the JW revisionist apologist will play the blame game and say 1914 second coming is an invention of ' disgruntled apostates'.

False teaching Watchtower game over.
