Vellinge residents back refugee children: poll

Six of ten residents in Vellinge in southern Sweden are positive toward housing refugee children in the area, despite claims by local politicians that locals oppose the move.

Local council member and Moderate Party member Lars-Ingvar Ljungman has claimed that he has support of the majority of Vellinge municipality’s residents in his efforts to stop a group of refugee children from moving into a youth hostel in Hököpinge.

But an opinion survey shows that only 18 percent of local residents want to stop the children from coming, the Sydsvenskan newspaper reports.

The survey also showed that 63 percent of Vellinge residents think the refugee children should be allowed to use the hostel as transitional housing.

“The figures are clear. Municipal leaders have said they have the support of the majority, but that’s a lie,” Vellinge resident Caroline Theander told the newspaper.

Healthcare company Attendo Care has been hired by nearby Malmö municipality to manage the housing of refugee children who arrive in the city without any parents or legal guardians.

When it became known that the company planned to house the children in the hostel in neighbouring Vellinge, which has long been against housing refugees, a wave of vocal protests ensued.

The survey was carried out by the GFK Sverige polling firm at the request of Sydsvenskan and the results are based on responses to interviews with 500 people over the age of 18.

Children? Swedish media brainwashing at its best. Youth at 15-18 are not children. Another lie of the Swedish media and the left.
08:57 November 17, 2009 by miau
@boby: Is this really the issue?

I think it's great that so many people support the idea of housing refugees in their area. A humane and compassionate outlook go a long way to making society a better place.

Children are innocent creature, we should not play our political games on them... Give them a shelter here ( in this world) in the day of judgement God will give you shelter and keep you away from hell fire :)

I think it is refreshing that the local residents are in favour of helping these children. We have seen in Britain how the Nationalist & Racist party the BNP has got seats in the European Parliament and I don't want to see the Swedish Democrats do the same here.

People who oppose this are racists and should be ashamed of themselves. Nationalism is not the same as Patriotism; nationalism is an evil that saw rise to the ethinic cleansing in Jugoslavia, gave support to the Ayatolla in Iran, and Hilter in Germany. George W Bush even used this to get support at home for his war in Iraq by claiming everyone was anti-american and getting gullible americans to say people who opposed neo-conservatives were anti-american.
11:20 November 17, 2009 by boby
@ miau

Yes, this is a real issue. Do you think it would be the same results for the poll if instead of children it read 'young men'?

@ bigboy

I wonder who is really the racist here. Did you ask yourself why it is only male 'children' that are sent over?

And Re. ethinic cleansing , the only ethinic cleansing happening in Europe these days is against the Europeans themselves, by the social faschists

Whats your SD membership number?
12:45 November 17, 2009 by Pelotard
@boby:

By Swedish law, anyone under the age of 18 is a child. Nobody, except possibly you, imagines that parents would send kids aged 6 across the world to an unknown reception. Most forms of transport will actually refuse younger children to travel alone. This isn't "brainwashing", it's facts that people living in a society sort of know without consciously learning them, possibly absorbing them through something akin to osmosis.

People living under rocks might not.
13:12 November 17, 2009 by Beynch
Boby is correct! And how many of these "children" will become 'anchor babies` for throngs of additional refugees claiming 'family renunification` demanding handouts from Swedish taxpayers? How much more of this orwellian nonsense can be endured by Sweden lest its destruction is ensured? A quick search of the GFK polling firm will show you that most of its polling has landed to the advantage of the liberal left. I suggest that you look critically at the results, and GFK's polling methods before you obediently believe that 'Vellinge residents back regugee children`. And Rick Methven, why are your comments always so infantile?
13:38 November 17, 2009 by Rick Methven
@Beynch

I have found that making any reasoned comment to the posts of you and others of your ilk, only returns a whole pile of abusive and the usual " your a left-wing PC......"

You have an agenda that nothing is ever going to change, therefore my future response to such posts will be the scorn that you deserve.

Whats your SD membership number?
13:57 November 17, 2009 by Beynch
@Rick Methven; for the record:

1) I do not have an SD membership number. Nor have I ever voted for them, although I'm carefully considering such a move.

2) I do indeed have an agenda! And the agenda is to save Sweden from the social democrats, and other marxist-liberal leftist gunk, and their misguided socialization policies. Crush them in 2010!
14:03 November 17, 2009 by Elcompadre
Some of you have said that is great that these people are open to accepting the refugees while other accuse those who oppose them as being racist. I do think is good that people are open to accepting refugees, however I do not think those who oppose should necessarily be labeled as racist. I think this whole situation is the governments fault for taking more refugees than society can handle. It seems that the government keeps accepting refugees even though they have no place to house them and tends to place all of them in the same regions and residents understandably will get fed up with this. I think the government should limit the amount of refugees it takes to give some time to the ones that are currently in Sweden to integrate to society. If they keep taking in refugees people are going to get even more fed up with them specially in areas like Malmo where there is a large refuge and immigrant population and is just going to create more conflict among the immigrant population and the Swedes.
15:11 November 17, 2009 by ingvar
I would be surprised if the pooling company falsified the results in favor of liberal values
16:50 November 17, 2009 by human on planet
CHILDREN it is a big joke. no body knows what their age. only sweden is getting that kind of children in the world. children is a big lie that is sold to the innocent swedish people. they are future criminals . they know how to cross many countries. it is very strange.
16:58 November 17, 2009 by Glempa
@boby:

Here is the Cambridge Dictionary definaition of Ethnic Cleansing:

"the organized attempt by one racial or political group to completely remove from a country or area anyone who belongs to another particular racial group, using violence and often murder to achieve this"

To claim this is happening to Swedish residents is nothing more than a right-wing, bigoted rant.

@beynch

Your consideration at joining the SD proves the rest of us are correct that you are a right-wing biggot, and that is nothing to be proud of.
17:17 November 17, 2009 by Beynch
@Glempa: Oh?
21:03 November 17, 2009 by boby
@Glempa

UN definition that Ethnic Cleansing can also be done by intimidation. That is exactely what the left is doing in some areas of Sweden- replacing the native Swedes with immigrants.

@Pelotard

If there was a media article about an 18 yo in another context, will the word 'barn' be in use? It is a left lie to endorce sympathy from naive Swedes.

Who is the real racist? Do you know why these people do not sent their daugthers over here? They do not want to stain their 'purity' with Western infidels

@Rick Methven

I do not have a membership but definitely going to get one. And I am proud of it. The left has empoloyed faschist techniques to shut up the will of the pople for so long. No more!

If a community does not wish to take in refugees, their will should be respected. (And vegetarians are racists because they don't like meat) To come up magically with polls numbers that suits ones agenda and (as I've read lately) force through laws that will oblige municipalities to take in refugees without questioning it is bad. And SD it is bad. After all, sadly, it's about choosing the less damaging. A lot of people will vote with SD not because they like SD or even agree with it but because there is no better option to put on hold the decadence of Sweden. Hopefully in a couple of years a non-extremist party will be able to gain votes on a more pragmatical approach on immigration issues, as the actual coalition failed to do so.

WHATEVER HAPPEN TO THE THRUTH?!

it's so kind of sweden to take in these refugee kids,so big ups to sweden. he's the problem if sweden doesn't have a place to house them why keep letting them in?

sweden is trying to recieve kudo's from the international community for these acts of humanity,so big ups to sweden. communities have a right to say if they want things in their community,so does that really make them racist people. how much is sweden willing to pay for having it's own multicultural society?
