A Swedish newspaper has finally resolved the gripping YouTube mystery of an errant frisbee that struck a young man's face, causing him to spill a drink down the front of his shirt and go ballistic.

For three years, Sweden has been in the dark as to the identity of a frisbee thrower in Västerås in central Sweden who unwittingly sparked an online phenomenon.

A video clip of the incident, Vem var det som kasta? ('Who threw it?') has been viewed almost one and a half million times on YouTube.

Behind the camera that fine summer's day at the Västerås frisbee golf course was one Micke Åhlin, Aftonbladet reports.

It was he who captured the cry of "fore" just after the wayward red frisbee makes contact with the face of a dapper young gentleman emerging from the woods in a white shirt and trousers.

Infuriated by the dark spectre of a stained shirt, the woodland wanderer immediately puffs out his chest, assumes an aggressive pose and ambles toward the cameraman uttering the words: "Who threw it?"

The viewer is left in little doubt that the frisbee thrower, should his identity be revealed, could be in for a bit of trouble. This is quickly confirmed by the white-clad walker: "Whoever threw it is in for a beating."

Perhaps prudently, Micke Åhlin made a split second decision to protect the identity of the thrower. But now, three years on, he's ready to spill the beans.

"It was Jörgen," he told Aftonbladet.

The newspaper managed to track down Jörgen Leisdal to a town in Texas, USA. He remembered vividly the moments leading up to the point when frisbee met face.

"Just as I was throwing it I saw this guy coming out of the woods and thought to myself, 'oh no, this isn't good' because there were around ten guys with him."

But Leisdal was reassured that he could now return to Sweden without fear of reprisals. Though he did not wish to be interviewed, the victim of the accidental plastic disc attack said he had cooled down and did not bear a grudge.

Wow is this really a important story, after watching the youtube video seems the macho brainless victim should say sorry,if the victim didn't have his little posse with him he wouldn't be acting like a idiot, grow up

Have you read the racist comments on youtube for this video made by swedes? Everyone there thought that he was only touched by the frisbee and acted as an idiot because of that, but as this article reveals, it actually made him spill some drink on his white and rather expensive shirt. Everyone would get pissed off for that and don't you dare say swedes are peaceful. What the heck are you doing in Iraq then? Why did you help free a war criminal Plavsic and secure a comfy jail for her?

I don't know about the comments for the Youtube thread, but in the video, it was the Turkish guy that threatened to beat up the Swede who yelled "svennejävlar". I would imagine that if the Swedes who were being threatened with violence by the group of irate Turk "children" mentioned "turkjavlar" they would most certainly have been accused of being racist.
19:01 November 18, 2009 by mula129
The guy is NOT turkish. First stop labeling all immigrants as "Turkish" before mentioning of racism bla bla bla.

I have been in Sweden for more than three years and I have never had any single problem with Swedish people but with certain kind of "inmmigrants". These guys belong to a large group and tehy are who try to cheat on you when you want to buy from them (small shops, open markets, etc), they discriminate people (mainly other foreigners) when they work in contact with public (post office, public transport, taxis, etc), the molest girls everywhere, etc.

Unfortunately they are everywhere and if you react and confront one, then you have ten beating you without even knowing the reason of the discussion.

Perhaps I am becoming racist because when I see them I take my precautions.

The guy in the video is a typical example.

Jörgen got the advice: Go west young man.
21:35 November 18, 2009 by digital
Go west? I have been to USA few months ago and I can say only this: Sweden is far ahead of US when it comes to well being of its citizens. On every corner of every street you will find at least 1 beggar in the US. I saw 1 in Malmo, asking for a "femma" and thats it for the whole year. US is surely one of the poorest countries now, you don't have healthcare, insurance etc... the only thing that you get there is VERY RICH people, and VERY POOR people.

When it comes to racism - believe me, its present in Sweden much more then you can see. Swedes are like that - they will never confront you but will gladly talk crap about you behind your back. I have one at work who keeps talking crap about foreigners on a daily basis. Perhaps you're blond and have a perfect accent, thats why you havent seen it :)

This is exactly the kind of news i would expect from a good online newspaper like thelocal ;-)

Haha, I was at Valborg in Lund back in Spring and walking through the festivities a friend and I got a front row seat to this guy getting smacked with a frisbee and beer going everywhere. It was funny because my friend and I had discussed how it could happen if the frisbee dude overthrew his friend...and sure as sh*t it happened like 3 meters from us.

oh and the guy wasn't mad....surprise. But maybe next time he won't be on his mobile having a beer next to a couple guys playing frisbee.

Who cares where the people are from.. the dude in the white freaked out over sometimes so small ... making him a douche bag haha

I really want to like The Local but when you report on this story instead of the storm in the Öresund region that has blown away half of the scaffoldings in Malmö or the 3-hour-long closing of the bridge -then I feel is hard to like!
10:27 November 20, 2009 by Malmoman
Digital,

WOW you were in the US and you made all those observations? We don't have healthcare? Poorest country? Very rich and very poor? I was there 8 months ago and boy things must have REALLY changed since then. Where did you visit Compton?

If I know 10 working Swedes and 10 working Americans my American friends are infinitely better off financially than their Swedish counterparts. Maybe Boston is different, or Vermont, or St. Petersburg Fl....or Delaware (places I have lived).

I have been to hospitals here and the US and let me tell you there is no doubt if my life depended on it where I would want to be cared for.

Hilarious!
17:04 November 20, 2009 by lensart
Digital... perhaps you should come to Gbg and experience the beggars... erh, I mean 'musicians' playing one continuous note or banging on a drum for money. I agree with Malmoman, your view of the US compared to Sweden is definitely skewed.

How did we go from "twit throws frisbee at another twit" to "America is a poor country"?

I'd argue that this is a much richer country. I get to keep every penny I earn and spend it as I see fit.

US GDP

$14.44 trillion (2008 est.)

country comparison to the world: 2 (Actually first, since "Europe" isn't really a country)

GDP - per capita (PPP): $47,500 (2008 est.)

Sweden GDP

$345.1 billion (2008 est.)

country comparison to the world: 33

GDP - per capita (PPP): $38,200 (2008 est.)

Hmm...looks like about 25% better here, and I don't pay any income tax. So that would be what? 2.5X the actual income? And much cheaper gas, food, utilities, resources?

We have plenty of programs for poor and homeless. It's entirely possible to live on charity in America and be obese, there is so much food. We pay farmers not to produce, to keep the prices from being too cheap (which I object to, but we can afford to), and we give millions of tons of food away all over the world, and we can keep doing it while spending a trillion $$ to kick people's butts.

However, a lot of people (and I don't know why myself) CHOOSE to live on the street rather than in all the housing we make available. There is public housing boarded up and vacant from lack of use.

It may be DIFFERENT from Sweden, but it's not worse. And I'm not aware of anyone from the US needing to flee to Sweden to be safe from a bully.

Now shut up and make me a new Husqvarna chainsaw! (Because I DO LOVE Swedish tools.)
21:16 November 20, 2009 by RichardG
Its amazing the reactions and comments that have been made after watching some random guy getting accidentaly hit by a frisbee, spilling his drink and getting aggresive. Now we're ending with Husqvarna chainsaws, how diverse are we! Life is great when we have such free time to comment on such trivial things. Cheers everyone :D
21:18 November 20, 2009 by Malmoman
Thank you Richard you just gave me the strength to close the windows and stop obsessing over these various opinions...may I never come back!

Adios
07:01 November 22, 2009 by sdmike
Umm... Michael, I'm just curious how you do not pay ANY income tax? And are you saying that this is typical in the US?
