China must play a prominent role in the global fight against climate change, Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt said on Monday after a China-EU summit.

"We cannot solve the climate challenge to mankind without China taking on leadership and responsibility," said Reinfeldt in his capacity as EU president.

"So far our belief is the global effort put on the table for mitigation is not enough... more needs to be done."

At the same joint press conference with Reinfeldt, Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao countered that China's pledge last week to slow growth in greenhouse gas emissions marked "a major contribution to global efforts."

"China places high importance on the upcoming Copenhagen conference. I will attend to represent China," he said of December 7-18 global negotiations aimed at reaching a new climate change pact.

"China is willing to work to move the conference in the right direction," Wen added.

If Fredrik Reinfeldt had bothered to listen to the Chinese, which it is obvious he did not, he would have realised that the Chinese are looking at their annoucement as the first step in turning there economy towards carbon neutral and in the extreme long term towards carbon negative if possible.

Also if Fredrik Reinfeldt had bothered to check, the Chinese are now the world's biggest users of solar water heaters in new homes, significantly ahead of the USA and Germany. That process in increasing rapidly in China.

Producation lines are ramping up constantly in China for solar panels.

China is building the worlds first five carbon neutral cities over the next five years.

Why doesn't Fredrik Reinfeldt ask why the USA is not signing up to enviromental pledges, why they are so far behind in carbon neutral technology and why they keep trying to derail ITER anytime a negotiation comes up?

China has already recognised that schemes such as win, solar, todal, hydro, fission and most of all potential fusion are the way forward. Cina has made clear that if ITER is a sucess, it will follow an accelerated building plan of fusion stations.

China has laid long term plans to slowly at first and then constantly accelerating to change to the new energy production forms. They are not just saying they are doing it, they are doing it now.

What is Fredrik Reinfeldt and the USA doing apart from producing so much hot air.

Where Fredrik Reinfeldt's plans for the comparable city in Sweden that is 100% carbon neutral?

So its full steam ahead to extra taxes then people whilst the fat cats carry on polluting rivers and seas and running their private jets, massive houses and limo's!!

I could have sworn that I read about a scandal surrounding leading scientists 'fudging' climate change data - but who cares right? On with the show...

Most politicians have forgotten who pay their wages and think they can treat their people with utter contempt!

The fast development of China have largely resulted from a well repeated doctrin of "seeking the tuth from the facts" since last 30 years, a more scinentific appoach in policy making. I thought, for the outsiders, learning more about China remains urgent priority though many things developed in China are far from perfection. Those who are generous to criticize need to change attitude a little bit and show their patience to listen.

Precisely.

China is changing at a rate that we in the west can barely comprehend.

Over the last few years I had heard so much about China I have not been sure at times wether to believe it or not.

The pictures and videos friends of mine have taken in various Chinese cities have really opened my mind. Most westerners work in coastal cities. Some friends of mine have been around the interior of China as well and have made clear that the forward development of China is occurring in every part of China.

The ideas for the new carbon neutal cities are incredible. I have been following the technology closely as has several members of my family as we are a construction family. We are learning so much from the Chinese, that we may be possibly be able to use back home in Ireland for home building, if we can ever get planners to allow us to.

China is definately leaping forward a lot. I don't believe that people in the west have any idea just how far China has come, particularly in the last decade.

The rate of advance in China is definately accelerating.

I am starting to see more names in the scientific and engineering journals, inclduing the high end journals such as www.nature.com and www.sciencemag.org which are important indicators to me, as to how far the country has advanced and is advancing.

On television I am seeing more and more Chinese people on the discovery channel on highly complex infrastructure projects and discussing scientific advances.

I personally believe that we have not even seen the tip of the iceberg regarding how far China is going to progress.

China used to learn from us in the west. Now it is definately is a two way process. Soon we will be learning from China.

I look forward to seeing the projected Chinese moon mission on television.

You better watch out

You better not cry

Better not pout

I'm telling you why

Carbon Tax is coming to town

He's making a list

And checking it twice;

Gonna find out Who's naughty and nice

Carbon Tax is coming to town

He sees you when you're sleeping

He knows when you're awake

He knows if you've been bad or good

So be good for goodness sake!

O! You better watch out!

You better not cry

Better not pout

I'm telling you why

Carbon Tax is coming to town

Carbon Tax is coming to town

Merry Christmas everyone!

Since you want to indulge in USA conspiracy theory so much, I have some very helpful suggestions for you.

On blocket.se you can sell your belongings

On hemnet.se you can sell your home

At flysas.com you can book a one way flight not only out of Sweden, but out of Europe to any of about 50 cities in the USA were you can indulge in conspiracy theories until your heart is content.

That way we in Europe can avoid your lunatic nonsense being spouted at us from Alex Jones and others who have made a living out of the gullible in the USA, just like the religeous preachers have by misinforming the people in the USA.

Have an alien kidnapping and anal probing free trip to the USA.

The fact that some people are making a lot of money on climate hystery is no conspiracy theory, it is a simple result of human behavior. It was even accepted by regular climatologists as is seen in e-mails that have leaked from British CRU recently. First there should be a real unbiased scientific assessment of human influence on the climate, and the so called skeptics should also be invited to that. So far we have seen no real proof of human influence, only various models with a lot of errors, fakes like the hockey plot, and for the last year the global temperature goes down due to the lack of sun activity.

good luck Reinfeldt !!!

Obama try to do the samething a couple of weeks ago and failed in the same way.

i don't think Chinese is gonna make any further promise beyond what they have made already - which in a way is quite agressive targets already.

climate change, a politicalized issue. When 95% and 77% of world carbon were respectively produced by the western countries before and after 50s of last century, how can China take a lead in conbating the global climate change....
17:13 December 1, 2009 by aaww
@bjinger

i think China overall can do better than today. i noticed that they have promised on some agressive improvement plans already.

but of course, we have to be realistic as well that Chinese CO2 emission per capita is still reasonably low in compare to industrialized countries.
