It was an MD of Jaguar who said about the Ford take over of his beloved brand something like this: 'When an elephant goes to bed with a mouse the mouse gets squashed and the elephant doesn't have much fun either.' The same has to be said for GM and Saab.
The depth of General Motors' pockets and their industrial know-how did not work for Saab as they starved it nearly to death over 20 years. I say I say let a smaller investor give Saab the focus and love it deserves. Good luck Spyker, Victor Muller and Saab!
When they realize the condition and challenges at SAAB, they will walk too.
GM should have picked Renco or Wyoming - groups with strong experience and resources.
Spyker...really? Spyker?
Looks like all the commentators will only be happy when SAAB and Volvo are owned by Chinese or USA companies.
This isn't a beauty contest.
This is nothing to do with beauty, it is to do with keping manufacturing jobs inside Europe, not exporting them and leaveing tens of thousands unemployed.
But most important, FORD went back to telling the salesmen they were the most important workers in the company. In the end it is about selling cars and trucks, not buyers.
If you want to sell a Swedish car, you have to put your money where your mouth is. Start a stock issue with the intent to buy SAAB, encourage the Americans to give you the company, sit down with the workers and ask them to take part of their pay in stock. Then build the SAAB you have always dreamed of.
FORD's President is an airplane guy, but he has caught the enthusiast's fever at FORD and stock is up to $9.00 a share (yes, saving my team made me a lot of money).
We are going back to Henry Ford's original mission, building a great car, that any worker can afford.
Saving SAAB will come from inside SAAB and Sweden. If you don't ask your workers to help how can they? Get back to your SAAB roots, wasn't the SAAB Sonnet asembled in a barn? Tell your workers SAAB will survive if they save it.
Both Renco and Wyoming had that experience but GM twice went with very weak groups. A weak buyer isn't good for Sweden or Europe either. A strong buyer committed to keeping Saab in Sweden is the answer.
