Nordegren's purchase of Stockholm island retreat confirmed

Published: 13 Dec 09 12:13 CET | Print version
Online: http://www.thelocal.se/23822/20091213/

Elin Nordegren closed on a deal to buy a sprawling island estate in the Stockholm archipelago in the early days of an infidelity scandal which continues to plague her star golfer husband Tiger Woods, the island’s residents' association said on Sunday.

Nordegren’s purchase of Fåglarögård was first reported by the Aftonbladet newspaper on December 3rd, just days after Woods crashed his SUV into a tree near the Florida home he shares with Nordegren and their two children.

On Sunday, Sten-Åke Johansson, head of Fåglarö’s residents association, confirmed the sale to AFP.

"Elin Nordegren bought a house on the island, it's true. She's the owner since December 1st," he told the news agency.

There are around 140 properties on Fåglarö, which is about 40 kilometres southeast of the Swedish capital.

"The property consists of several houses, it's a renovated farm, on the water with a beach," Johansson said.

According to Aftonbladet the 24,000-square-metre property with swimming pool was sold for 16 million kronor ($2.2 million).

Johansson could not confirm the selling price or say whether billionaire golfer Woods himself was involved in the transaction.

Fåglarö, part of the archipelago of thousands of islands that lies between Stockholm and the Baltic, is reached by boat from the port of Vaxholm, where former model Nordegren grew up.

Woods announced Friday he was taking a hiatus from professional golf and admitted he had cheated on Nordegren after reports that 10 women had claimed to have had sexual relationships with the 14-time major champion.

World number one Woods, who has a son and daughter with Elin, said he wanted to work on being a better husband, father and person.

Women such as a show club hostess, pancake restaurant waitress, porn star and cocktail waitress have alleged affairs with Woods, whose squeaky-clean image was shattered.

"I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children. I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness," Woods said.

I predict that Woods will never be able to tolerate this type of environment. Recent stories reveal that he is much too self centered, contrary to the phony image we've been fed over the years. With Nike, Gatorade, American Express, Gillette all pulling their commercials, he will have a lot to ponder on. It will start by him "making business trips" back the U.S., which will increase in length and frequency. Heaven knows what pancake waitresses he will visit during those "business trips". Elin and the children will be left on the island, no easy feat during long dark Swedish winters, regardless of how much dough she will be left with. I predict a divorce before June, due to - as the saying goes - "irreconcilable differences". She, and Holmberg, may of course be consoled by all that money of course.

I wish I could disagree with Beynch in post #1, but I can't. I like to hold on to the hope that somehow decades from now a what-ever-happened-to-Tiger-Woods report will show up on TV; the report will air and reveal a happy Elin and Tiger on their island in the Archipelago with their grown children. Sadly, that is no more likely to happen than ABBA getting back together.

He bought her a house in Sweden ? This guy is doing everything wrong. Still.
20:47 December 13, 2009 by lingonberrie
He has become less of his manufactured image within that like-wise manufactured image of the PGA, and he will likely lose the competitive edge during his announced inactivity intents and thus fade from the limelight.

The celebrity status comments that are generated on the blogs will thankfully fade, and they can go on with the privacy of their marriage in private.

She's moving back to sweden for good I bet. She'll probably have this house and their apartment in Stockholm.

She probably needs to put all her assets in real estate, etc so that when they split the swedish government doesn't take 60% of her money.

She'll probably need a place in Cali too so she can get some sun once and awhile.
07:02 December 14, 2009 by wenddiver
An island by the Baltic, how depressing!!! Why not just move to Iceland or North Dakota?? He should have bought her an island in the middle-east, a new supply of Burkas and ran for his life, before she gets her hand on another Golf Club and screws up a really expensive car/ his head.

Run Tiger, Run!

No kidding about the lousy choice for investing all that money in such hideous environment. If I had that type of money, the last thing I'd do is invest anything in Sweden. There are millions of better places to choose from.

I had a friend whose dad sold their home in New Jersey for about $500,000 and got his residents permit to come here and live with his daughter, but went to open a Bank account to put his money into and was told the government would take 60%. He said screw that and put it in an offshore account in a tax haven country and kept around $100,000 in cash. I don't blame him, it was rediculous. That money was hard earned and tax paid for already. Why should he have to fund some stupid greedy socialist welfare state system he did'nt want to partake of in the first place.

She'd be absolutelt stupid to bring the bulk of that wealth back here. Well, of course it's obvious she's made stupid decisions before.
08:48 December 14, 2009 by wenddiver
Why the hell did she hit the Cadillac, she couldn't just shoot him???? Sounds like really poor planning.
13:05 December 14, 2009 by karex
There is no mention about "him buying her the island retreat". For all we know this was her own initiative and he's not included. There was also no mention that he would be living there with her and the kids either.

I do agree with some comments: not a smart thing to do to bring in so much money to Sweden. And 60% is probably a very low estimate. With the amount she probably has coming, I wouldn't be surprised if this percentage rose up to 80-85% or even more.

Didn't Astrid Lindgren get taxed for 102% or some ridiculous figure like this?
14:48 December 14, 2009 by wenddiver
Wow!!!! 102%, that is amazing, I thought 100% was traditional amongst bandits. What do they do take everything and tell the person to go earn more, so they can take that too.

They are going to be able to bring a lot of Muslim families to Sweden with that kind of money! Maybe they will give some of it to Communist Dictators, so they are not immediatly overwhelmed and can continue to rob the regular Swedish taxpayer.
16:25 December 14, 2009 by Beynch
The media in the U.S. report today that Holmberg and her daughter are "in talks with divorce lawuyers". This will be interesting to follow. Surely Holmberg will not settle for anything less than $500,000,000.00 regardless of any pre-nup. The trick for prominent social democrat Holmberg will to keep the spoils away from clutches of the Swedish tax authorities who I'm sure, at this stage is foaming at the mouth over all that dough. Just imagine how many more asylum seekers can be accomodated in Sweden if Skatteverket even gets a fraction of all those pesos. But perhaps Holmberg's social democrat past gives her some insight in the workings of money grabbing tax authorities, and thus also in how to avoid them. Stay tuned. In the meantime Woods, of course, is free to pursue all the white pancake waitresses he can find.

It breaks my heart to hear the mean comments about this young woman. Can you, for just a moment, imagine how heartwrenching it is to learn that your husband was sleeping with women all over the place while you were pregnant, and even before. The baby is only 9 months old. How difficult this must be for her to deal with a betrayal of such magnitude. I am ashamed to hear of so many accusations about money grubbing. Don't judge others by your own standards! I am surprised that more people in Sweden have not come to the front to support her. Do you really think life is all about money only? Think again before it is too late. My best regards to Elin and to her children. I hope Tiger can make some effort to make up for all the harm he has done to her love and her self respect.
21:05 December 14, 2009 by Beynch
@Roze; Exactly my point Roze. Woods is an unethical beast, and deseres to have a piece of his extreme wealth confiscated.
21:19 December 14, 2009 by wenddiver
According tp Maerrika's blog she could have married a Swedish man and the big scandal would have been how many times he changes his shirt when getting ready to go out.

She went all the way to America to find such an idiot????? Maybe we could export them to Sweden. How many ships of trash do you need??? This guys an American, do you know how much our country despises this kind of behavior??

She could have drug home one of the millions of Lutheran men of Nordic decent in the US and had some shared values, but she had to find a real winner, Ha, Ha. Everybody in the US is lauhig at her and her idiot.

Oh, I forgot her mother is a Socialist politician, so this was probably an exercise in proving everybody is the same as Sweden in the world . LOL
21:41 December 14, 2009 by Roze
Everyone in the USA is not laughing at Elin. They are mostly horrified that she has been treated so poorly by her husband and has had to suffer such anquish with the media getting wound up into overtime. Everywhere you go people are expressing concern for her and her two children. I watch the newscasts and I see, time and again, concern for this young woman who invested herself in her family, her marriage, and her home. The average American here is totally shocked at Tiger's behavior. No one suspected he was capable of such betrayal.
08:34 December 15, 2009 by wenddiver
Yah, nobody's laughing, except for Saturday Night Live and all the Late Night Commedians.

What American husband goes to Las Vegas by himself???
10:38 December 15, 2009 by wabasha
poor poor elin? honestly, did anybody really think that when you marry a millionare (perhaps billionare)golfer that it would last?

So many family values moralist and hypocrites around.. scary...Tiger is the man. He does what many of you wish to do but don't have the balls.. You criticize his action but deep down wish you could leave your dry fish looking partner and go for a little adventure before your insignificant life come to an untimely end. Go out and live and forget about the bullshit you learned at Sunday school. the only reality is that when you are laying in that piece of wooden box is that you will be consumed by maggots..
12:33 December 15, 2009 by tigger007
why do you people think that this woman will take half!

she will never get half his money(kids or no kids). i don't think his family or the american public will let that happen. look at paul the guy from the beatles this woman wanted half of his wealth and they was married under 10yrs and with a son. the uk public was so brutal on this woman, she took the first offer that she was given in the first place. tigger's wife don't win a golf title or worked hard to be the best in the world.the man cheated and got what was coming to him,if they was to get divorced and it came down to money. it would be tied up in a legal battle for yrs. tigger's wife in america would be cast as a bimbo white trash from sweden and her mother a socialist hypocrite. his wife would get the same bashing as paul's wife did in the uk. for those who are wondering if this woman would get tigger's money she may get up to 200 million(tigger's networth is 575 million or so). why would she bring that money home to sweden and get 60% or more taken from her? one last thing i noticed that some of you are HATING on tigger, but get this if he goes on a winning streak again and again. some of you HATERS will be on tigger's D¤¤&/%K once more!

peropaco

OUCH! Well hopefully, your dry fish won't do the same to you - or at least be more discreet.
18:25 December 15, 2009 by double concerto
Sounds like peropaco's brain has already been consumed by maggots, poor boy:)
19:42 December 15, 2009 by wenddiver
@Tigger007- there are some people who if he goes back to winning will no doubt go back to supporting, but to most of his fellow countrymen he has become a non-person, pure trash.

The moral relativists will lose that one. I was at the sporting goods display the other day and they had taken down the Tiger pictuers. America wanted a Tiger and he promised them that, and all we got was some loser John.
07:52 December 17, 2009 by SweetBlue
@tigger007

It has been reported that Elin is filing for divorce in the state of California. State law says she is entitled to half of Tiger's current and future income. What she does with it, or where she banks it, is her decision.

Also, all property holdings in Sweden, have thus far, been in Elins name only.

Sounds like she is doing what she needs to do for both herself and her kids.

And btw.... most American's are so over any Tiger news. It was shocking but not surprising as most American pro athletes cheat. The news is all about how Elin is striking out, not staying by her man for a a future pay out.
