'Feminists have better sex': Swedish party

Sweden's feminist political party is hoping logo items featuring a bold claim about their supporters’ supposed prowess in the bedroom will raise awareness about the party during the holiday shopping season.

“Feminists have better sex,” the Feminist Initiative (FI) political party claims in its recently launched line of logo items.

Among the available items featuring the provocative claim are dish towels to help ‘”wipe away those dusty old norms” and buttons that will help FI supporters boost their chances of “snagging someone like-minded to spend the night with”.

Tote bags and t-shirts bearing the feminists’ declaration of superior sex are also for sale.

According to party spokesperson Veronica Svärd, FI is counting on the gear to raise awareness and money for the party ahead of Sweden’s 2010 parliamentary elections by tempting Swedish shoppers in need of last minute holiday gifts.

“They make great gifts that can help generate a discussion about gender roles and the connection between equality and better sex,” she told The Local.

Svärd explained that the claim is based on the results of an American research project which concluded that couples that divide responsibilities more equally are more satisfied with their sex lives.

“We want to let people know that gender equality and a better sex life are connected,” she said.

The party has also launched an accompanying Facebook group that has already attracted over 1,000 members and provides an explanation of the party’s definition of “feminist”.

“Feminists, both guys and girls, are all of us who see that there are injustices between the sexes in our society,” FI writes on its Facebook page.

“It’s something we believe should be changed. It’s not any more complicated than that.”

The party goes on to argue that people unwittingly take preconceived notions about gender roles with them into the bedroom, which can affect the quality of a couple’s sex.

“A relationship which is equal and critical of the reigning order becomes a more open and pleasant relationship. Such relationships produce more and better sex!” the party writes.

Svärd emphasized that the campaign, which was spearheaded by the party’s Stockholm chapter, was also undertaken with “a great deal of humour”.

“It’s supposed to be something fun,” she said, adding, however, that the Feminist Initiative believes the somewhat tongue-in-cheek message will benefit the party in several ways.

“It allows people who are maybe less inclined to talk about politics to start thinking about gender equity,” she said.

Svärd also hopes the sexually suggestive slogan will help counter what she claims is a persistent misconception that feminists don’t like sex.

“That’s a myth that won’t go away even though there’s nothing to back it up,” she said.

Not all feminists have been enamoured with the campaign however. Writing in tabloid Expressen, commentator Elin Grelsson said the party risked burdening women with feelings of guilt.

"In Feminist Initiative's world, sex seems so be synonymous with equitable, heterosexual couples who have fair, non-domineering sex with each other. As an ideal, it excludes a lot of people and is just as bad for the cause of sexual liberation as gender roles.

"Where are the faked orgasms of lesbian sex in the Feminist Initiative analysis? Or domineering all-male sex? If feels tiresome to have a campaign that creates new ideals rather than tearing down the old ones," she wrote.

But they all use the male-shaped dilso, don't they. They just want it their way 100% of the time. And anyway, who would want to have that ugly broad in the photo.
17:08 December 17, 2009 by SarahRF
Stuff like this pisses me off. Their video is absolutely ridiculous. It has nothing to do with feminism, it's just soft porn. My boyfriend and I have a great sexual relationship, even though I'm the one that does the laundry and the dishes. He does the grocery shopping and cooking. It's not because we set down ground rules because we're feminists or anything, it just happened that way and it works great for us.

You do not have to be a feminist to have great sex. I'm not denying that some things do need to change, but you'll never have everything fair for everyone, so don't bitch about every little thing that's not going your way.

I would be offended if someone gave me one of their items with that logo on it.

Selling sex to promote feminism .... LOL

Hookers and whores of the world unite!

We need more cheap female sex workers who are united through the same low prices since men generally dont pimp themselves (due to a lack of market)

Sex with 4 breasts is certainly better! Video it and share it with the world.
17:52 December 17, 2009 by Osokin
Wow talking about nonsense. To have good sex, you have to be loosen in the 1st place, which you can't if you are playing power games against males all the time.

Anyhow women sporting this shirt are gonna be bottom of the jar ugly, so fat chance this is gonna yield them any benefit.

Let's see -- I suppose two hairy women can have a great time in bed.

Based on what I have seen of Swedish women, the photos on top are the same woman. The photo on the right is the woman at age 25, the photo on the left is the same woman at age 35. Swedish women dont age well.

Isn't this video a bit explicite for YouTube? Wonder if anyone has reported it yet.

SarahRF

Has written all that needs to be written, precisely and to the point

The use of sex to promote equally between genders is as unproductive as saying that "women were meant to produce babies, period " which naturally raises the question of whether men were meant to make babies, period. The first is an mistaken idea of radical Ismalism; the second is naturally pure bunk, as is this promotion of the feminists.

The world of full of news waiting for someone to report the same; this stuff belongs in super-market available tabloids, not in serious journalism.
20:02 December 17, 2009 by byke
This is obviously designed to provoke and try to gain attention to their party.
20:45 December 17, 2009 by jack sprat
Don't understand all this equality nonesense.

The Swedish women have been in total control for many years now, so equality would surely be a backward step for them.

Now I must get back to changing the bairn's nappy and finishing the washing up!.......LOL.
22:02 December 17, 2009 by Rebel
Texasgubbar, generally I think you are right about Swedish women -- at least the blonde and red headed ones. They seem to age really rapidly to the point that you can mistake a 50 year old for being in her late 60s quite easily.

Those with that brown hair and freckles look, who have somewhat rounder faces, seem to age qyute well. Is this genetic strain in the Swedish population due to migrations from Russia?
22:14 December 17, 2009 by wxman
I think they mean "with each other".

OK, I am a male... So I have read a little about FI (as far I understood it has about 4 years in the Parliment).

I understand that women must have same opportunities than men: I mean same salaries less consequences of physical violence (men are stronger than women) and even polygamy!

However, I consider that such women go beyond the line, since I do not know whether they have male relatives: fathers, brothers, nephews, uncles, farfar, morfar, etc. Ok, women must be treat even but what about men? who we are the men in the FI fantastic world? and where are this male and beloved (if they love them) relatives who share the same bloodline?

This is the lonely last gasp of the feminists in my old age of the seventies. They never learned men are from mars and how to live with them.

@wxman.

Exactly right! That's the tag line: "Feminists have better sex... with each other" :-)
15:34 December 18, 2009 by Liquidmonkey
what does that video have to do with anything????

who cares who has better sex, each to their own.

and more importantly, is this what these feminist groups spend their money on?!?!?!?!?!

thats great if u want to fight for equal rights and so on but i think this has nothing to do with anything.

ps, that was one fugly chick at the end

Swedes are lucky to have sex as a political and social issue to discuss debate and support or oppose. We in the developing countries have more stark challenges like hunger, unemployment, education, terrorism. Yet again the Swedes and many other proud nations have exceled and are now past these stark issues, so what to fight for if there is no adversary that is cruel, inhuman, horrible and monstrous like hunger, unemployment, education, terrorism. Femenists have better sex - lets hope they do but at least not in parliament's christmas bash
15:42 December 18, 2009 by planet.sweden
Men are now victimised in Sweden!

"Feminists, both guys and girls, are all of us who see that there are injustices between the sexes in our society," FI writes on its Facebook page.

There are actually very few if any "injustices" for women in Swedish society, but increasingly quite a few for men.

Try as a man for example to get sick leave for burn out from a female doctor. I did and got sent packing. One month later my boss (no less!) insisted I take 2 months leave as he could see what my female doctor refused me. As most of you will know things have to get pretty bad before you're own company will suggest sick leave!

If that experience wasn't bad enough, a few months later a female friend of mine went to see my doctor for stress after splitting up with her boyfriend. The result - four months sick leave, no questions!

Another woman I know got 6 months sick leave from her female doctor because she was finding it difficult to get to sleep at night.

So there's Swedish gender equality for you! Men are expected to carry on regardless, women? well that's what welfare is for!

As far as I'm concerned George Orwell covered the main tenants of Sweden's feminist revolution in Animal Farm.

Silly video ... And yes, the pictures of the two women do look like photos of the same one ten or fifteen years apart.

Sexualize the nation and lead it quicker to its damnation!

It is good to be free but for what use?

Total worthless sophistication. We gone to far with this rubbish of attuning life to abuse and not use. Does that make sense? What good is domestication of society if it is to lead away from glory.

"Since we corrupt all others aint going to get a chance of being otherwise their children too."

I'm Canadian and I decided to read The Local in order to learn a bit about Swedish culture. To my horror, it seems to be a place for miserable, chauvinistic non-Swedes to bash Swedish women. I have no idea why that is, but from what I know about Sweden, there is no way the opinions here represent Sweden, this is just sickening.
11:06 December 21, 2009 by Beavis
LZN its a two way street Im afraid. If feminists are going to come out with this nonsesnse then people are going to react. Just remember these feminists are not loking for EQUAL rights for women, they want MORE rights for women. That in essence is whats called female chauvanism. Its is unfortunatly tolerated in Sweden and they even have theri own party. I agree with EQUAL rights, but not more right for either men or women

Congratulations to Sweden for establishing a Feminist Party. Bravo! Clearly a world leader in social advancement.

Feminists do have better sex because one of the main goals of feminism was and is accurate sexual education, as well as interpersonal relationships, emotional intelligence, etc.

Women feminists typically know their own bodies/selves better than the average woman and male feminists and others who either are feminists or support gender and social equality and human rights are better educated on the named issues, as it is accurate education that motivates individuals to participate and support equality of people and nature.

Those uneducated, miseducated, and otherwise corrupted individuals panic at the thought of equality and write nonsensical statements like those found among the comments.

LZN - totally agree.
