A wedding on Saturday in Malmö in southern Sweden came to an abrupt halt as police arrested the 24-year-old groom at the city hall, using pepper spray on him in the process, according to Sydsvenskan newspaper.

I can tell you Sweden is a bigots paradise it's where you can crap your pants being scared to say anything in public but when it comes to the internet you can share your feelings and no one would know it was you. I say to all you bigots out there stop being scared and understand that we don't live in the1800's and it doesn't matter where you come from or what religion you practice we are all human and we all have rights. Respect Them!
As for human rights violations, when did pepper spraying someone that resisted arrest become a human rights violation the alternative to pepper spraying is worse both for the police and for the person getting arrested. I also think you devaluing the real human rights violations happening in the world, you really need to get some perspective.
Firstly human rights violation in terms that the police could of easily arrested the man after the wedding ceremony. The guy is a refugee not a Colombian drug lord. Secondly one violation of human rights is not greater or less than the other, a violation of rights is a violation of rights there are no degrees here. It's like saying stealing from a store is less of a violation then robbing a bank. Stealing is stealing regardless.
The Pigs could have done a better job at handling this situation. However when police say they are searching for someone it's not like they are going door to door looking for the person, instead they sit on their behinds and play the waiting game if they had not gotten a tip regarding the whereabouts of this man, they would of easily deported him another day.
People who tried to abuse the system and break the law .. deserve what they get. Do they expect the polis to what? invite them to diner and talk about it when he has been hiding?
These 'illegal' immigrants give all immigrants a bad name....
However, it would have made it easier for him to come back after the deportation.
Run from the police to avoid lawful deportation, resist arrest, expect a smackdown. Nice work, police.
Waiting for the video.
to me that person was just a sitting duck for them. so there you go police came to crush it with iron hands. but what about big criminal gangs and robbers like in stockholm who robed in hollywood style and police was even tiped off by serbian police about the robery where was our police then??? when police see a big gangster they pooh in their pants.
i remember a quote.
in a socity when powerful people do crimes no one touches them but when week people do some crime the state crushes them with burtality. that kiind of socities vanish one day.
those policemen should be fired. not for arresting a man on the run. but for buritly stoping the wedding which and denying him access to his basic human right. i again say in many countries people are allowed to marry even during jail senstance its basic human right.
Let us be clear about one thing. In Sweden, and in every other country in the world, the legal status of an individual is defined by the prevailing laws in the host country. Once a person is in a country illegally, he has very few rights.
I ask you this: Once he was no longer in Sweden legally, why didn't he respect the laws of Sweden and leave voluntarily? Or put differently, if he has no respect for the laws of Sweden, why should Sweden have any respect for him?
If you think this is bad, wait until SD gain momentum. People tend to forget about Sweden's recent past...
The police did overstep the MEANS of the arrest, and against civil rights of the man (actually GIVING the guy a case against the police allowing him to stay to fight it). It is not a matter of the means justifies the ends.
What is the responsibility of our Afgani once he no longer has the legal right to remain in Sweden? Clearly, his responsibility is to follow the laws of Sweden and leave the country. He ignored those laws at his own peril. His actions created the confrontation with the police. He has suffered the consequences.
He is not a criminal because his application was rejected. He is a criminal because he was attempting to evade a Migration board deportation order.
He may not have been an immediate danger to society, but obviously he was a threat to the arresting officers. The officers used a non lethal method to subdue a criminal. Pepper spray is unpleasant but he will heal faster than a knock from a baton or a bullet
How often do police use force like batons, pepperspray or firearms to subdue criminals in Sweden? Not often. One has to ask, if the police felt pepper spray was necessary, what was this Afgani doing to resist arrest?
more challenges perhaps await the swedish soldiers that have traditionally shied away from the front lines!
Reinfeldt get ready to receive the bodies of fallen soldiers from Afghanistan.
@Celc
Let me make sure that I understand you:
If Swede's are nice to Afgani illegals in Sweden, then the Taliban will be nice to Swedish soldiers in Afganistan?
Don't make me laugh!
The migration board says it dosent really matter if hes married or not ..so whats the rush? Its not like a plane is waiting on him at Arlanda!
.ha ha what a joke..
My bet is that the wedding was a "wedding of convenience" to improve his chances of returning to Sweden after deportation.
If it is true love, there is no reason she can't follow him to Kabul where they can live together happily ever after.
he is not a refugee ,since his refugee application was turned down, that means well enough, that under Swedish law, he is not a refugee, but instead an illegal immigrant whatsoever.
2nd,
Of course even criminal has some rights to do something like wedding, BUT! police should enforce the law as soon as they get the information of the location of the wanted, police do not need to wait the suspect to finish executing their human rights like wedding, police need to arrest the wanted on the spot, no matter what he is doing. The suspect could get married when he was in jail, of course!
It's easy to see that the only people defending him are Middle Eastern.
I don't understand the criticism…the guy resists arrest and the police use pepper spray -would the use of physical force been better?
Well done????? I am not quite sure whether to praise them or criticise them. One thing I can be sure that must be a couple of police being sent to arrest one person. Even if he was resisting, I don't see how a few police cannot overpower him. Is pepper spray a neccesity?
Of course when the cops use force (whether right or wrong) there is always an excuse.
Again you and your picking on ethnicity! I seem to be the only Middleastern on this board and I heppen to be against supporting illegal refugees. Given the fact that this guy is not Mideastern himself shows your hidden racist agenda to attack others with special ethnicities.
I hate those illegal immigrants. Even those who stay for ONE day ( unless their plane is cancelled or delayed ) so my position is clear. I absolutely agree that this guy might be arrested and deported but they way police waited untill this marriage ceremony is held and then arresting him this way in teh middle of the ceremoney is totally humiliating. The reason why you like it is because you like humiliating those with different ethnical background. But I don't like it. I wold be the first person who suggest the Swedish police to use force in Rosengård to stop these brutal illegal/legal criminals who attack police,people,...but I can noway understand use of force in a marriage ceremoney.
1. The law was enforced
2. The criminal was prevented from faking a marriage so he could complicate the deportation order
3. A minimal application of force, was applied thus preventing a more serious occurrance, by the criminal's resistance
4. Nobody was injurred
5. For the record the Police cary AK-47s instead of Pepper Spray in his home country, so learning the importance of complying with Court or Police instructions is a valuable life lesson that may save the criminals life.
1) If you dare to read the whole article. The migration office says that this marriage doesn't change anything in his deportation status.
2) You're absolutely in no position to claim if it was fake or real.
3) The law is not usually enforced in that areas when criminal is attacking Publich facilities, other people, drug smugglers,...
4)I'm not sure if they have operative polcie in their home country. It's US and ans allies and Taliban terrorists who have guns in Afghanistan and they randomly kill innocent people for fun depedning on nature of their victims and the attackers.
@Iraniboy - Even if #3 is true (which it's not but I'm sure you have at most a handful of analogies that you base your entire view on) then I don't see why that should matter one bit unless you are advocating that the police should enforce the law in some sort of severity scale fashion starting with say genocide and ending with pick pocketing. Or maybe you mean they should only enforce the laws that you happen to agree to a 100% success rate before they start investigating the others.
ad 1) this may not be sure once lawyers get involved in this, and anyway it can help him to get to Sweden again in future. He can always get married in a country where he resides legally, none of his rights were violated
ad 3) The police don't use dangerous weapons in public areas where somebody can be hurt. No reason why not to use pepper spray.
ad 4) Of course there is police, mostly newly hired from local people and quite frequently killed by fanatic bombers and militants. And for this reason they need at least AK-47.
My apologies to you. I thought that you were supporting the blog directly before yours in which GKin suggested that the Taliban will attack more Swedish soldiers in Afganistan because of this incident - a completely absurd point.
Once again, my apologies.
You shouldn't be scientists to understand that a rapist, theive, badit is more dangerous than an illegal immigrant. Although both should be finally arrested. My objection however was to the way he was arrested not why he was arrested.
1) Are you suggesting that this Migration officer doesn't know Swedish laws or lying? I'm not th is the case.
3) "No reason why not to use pepper spay" So you suggest first they should use then they should look for reason. I'm sure that if I was a police I knew that it's easy to arrest a groom in his ceremony!!
4) Yes if they survive the maybe those unlucky people who live in a house 1 km near of one those militants and US forces have habit of killing all species in 1 km radius of suspected terrorists.
By the law you can not deport any Afghans asylum seeker to Afghanistan due to worst situation there. So they will realize him soon. And this is shame for Police officers who do not understand the law.
These Police officers should focus on the criminal and do not allow them to fly Helicopter on the Capital city and rob billions kr.
To show how strong you are, try to help the needy not to turn them down.
I say boy, boy the way your brainis working is bothering us! Who in their chicken plucking mind would prefer to be arrested in Iran (next time tell me first and we'll both run and call it a retreat, instead of cowardice) instead of Sweden!!! OK, having been to both countries and encountered both sets of Cops, I'm going Swedish. Yep, bet your Grandma's Corn Cob pipe I am going to jail in Sweden.
Imagine small Iranian Chicken Hawk- I am a Chicken Hawk and you are coming with me. I have talked to the big Ayatollah el Chicken Hawk and he says you and the whole world must be killed or converted. The Go-Ran and and al the best Ayatollah chicken minds say so!!!
Leghorn again-Boy, I say boy, you got it all wrong don't blow yourself up!! I'll gladly go with the US and NATO trained Afgan police, it's just you crazies I'm alergic to!!
By the way at least Afganistan has free elections, how's Iran doing Ali-bomba.
all what they stupids did is delaying his mission. his will to stay in sweden is greater than thier stupidity. his country is messed up, he have to stay here. bytheway, he can make his wife pregnant, and he can avoid being departed, to help her in her 9 monthes waiting the baby pluuuuuuus he will get a citizenship directly if he get a baby, rather than waiting 2 years with a permit then citizenship. she can visit him in his detention center and they have the right to have privacy and do a baby ....
as a result, the police did a stupid act but for me i dont think that sweds are soooo stupid, so i think he have done something more illigal than running from a deportation disicion ...
Also, I am not focusing on race here. Just pointing out that Middle Eastern people will ALWAYS defend the actions of fellow Middle Eastern people regardless of the situation. Just look at The Local. We have Rick Meth and Nevon (praticing Muslims and proud Middle Eastern people) who defend everything from child rape to robbery simply based on race.
I will suggest to Stockholm to replace all Malmö Polis. They always do stupid things, One call immigrants names, another shows immigrants children fingers, another use Spray on the wedding Night . Are there any educated Polis officer in Skåne?
The whole Malmö Polis department needs education on how to behave.
This is not how Swedes are like.
That stupid act broke the heart of all guest ,especially the poor Swedish girl who was dreaming about her marriage. sorry for their Money,Dreams everything gone by this idiot action . And now what? lets see if this Idiot can deport him.
It should be read as:
SWEDES DO IT AGAIN!
It ws totally unnecessary frm the polis... n illegal migrants also hav a right to marry ....
n
definitely...he had to be arrested...bt to do it in a fashion to make news is bad
Racism is so hidden in sweden.... tht swedes can pass a test bcos of being the son of a test administrator
He's an absolute idiot whatever he is. He could be a legitimate Canuk, but is an embarrassment to the rest of us if he is.
You need help. You were probably drunken when you were writing this. It's all irrelavant twaddle. I don't find any similiraity to the situation at hand while I may agree with you some your points about Ayatollahs I try to conduct it like in adult in his 20s.
@DrEstwd
Afghanistan is not part of Middle East. I can't find anyone supporting rape, robbery. A bad 'action' is bad regardless of race and ethnicity. Pointing out to race will just make it another story.
What's the matter "Doc" don't like cartoons??? Kind of dis-orienting now that the whole world's waking up to what you guys are all about.
Everybody's seeing it for what it is. No matter what he did or how illegal you would back him. Bombings, murder, be-headings, kidnapping of diplomats, why don't we start with these crimes, maybe the police should start there. Fellow criminals in the big terror and murder plot getting a raw deal? Your all guests now, what's your plan when your 50%, another Lebanon???
These peoples kids going to have to hide indoors, so that a murder they gave assylum, doesn't get them. You going to have women walk behind the men to show subserviance? You going to have a special tax on dehmis that won't convert or kill them???
Like I said before you need help. Read my two previous post regarding illegal immigrants(If you haven't read it). If you have read it I refer you to someone else who can help you. If you're in Sweden there are some specialists in vårcentralen. I feel for you. You're western equaivalant of those ill-minded extremists(and their supporters) taht we have in Iran, Afghansitan,...
Do not mind these racists , actually most of them are non-swedes.
many israelis joined this forum after Swedish News Paper published an article about Israelis crimes about selling kidney of murdered Palestine .
Sorry, no sympathy for this man as he was here illegally (unless the police were over handed in using the pepper spray in which case they were of course in the wrong). If he was to marry a Swedish citizen then he still would been deported, however he would have a better chance of returning to Sweden.
for those who speaks about the law: even Hitler can create the law, so, who say that people are obligated to respect racist law? law about "illegality" is clear racist law. all people should be equal, American or Iraqi or..., in Sweden.
beside it, immigration office condemned action of police because they know obligations of state departments when marriage is in question. illegal people can marriage themselves. problem is that racist cops thought that they will stop him to get legal status if they stop him to marry. it means that cops don't know the law, if they don't know, they should change their job.
if you look at united states, american police arrest couple of hundreds of illegal immigrants everyday, wether they have used tear gas, pepper sprey or electric baton, it's a way of law enforcement. otherwise, anyone can do what ever they like.
Not racist, not excessive, just good police work. Well done
1. The aim had been to arrest a refugee guy in run
2. His wedding in city hall had been considered as the best possibility
3. To arrest him before he manage to perform the wedding ceremony
4. The resist of the guy and the use of pepper spray
5. The call of immigration board that the guy couldn't stay in Sweden even by a marital Swedish status.
The fact is that police could wait for him to manage his wedding and then arrest him but police didn't want to wait. Was police afraid he might run away again, which I doubt. Why a guy in run should arrange his wedding openly in city hall! The guy considered his married as a chance to stay in Sweden. He would be sent back but could come back legally by some pepper works because of his wife. By marital statues, He cannot use welfare but can come back. HIS ABILITY IN COMING BACK WAS DISTURBING! The police knew it and just didn't want him to get any chance to retune, so they wanted to stop the ceremony, he resisted and got the spray! The judgment in here is the mentality of the police on the ability of guy to come back!!
Besides, I am not sure of this, but say the woman is preggers. If a kid is born of an unwed mother he is appointed the mother as sole parent at birth, but if she is married the guy is automatically appointed as the father, hence residence permit, handouts, positive action, minarets and the whole enchilada.
Please someone savvy in legal matters confirm if this was the line of thought of the police
He was an illegal immigrant, on the run who was stupid enough to let people know that even though he was here illegally that he was getting married at city hall.
The swedish immigration authority and the police actually used their brains and got someone. They need to so this type of stuff more often.
As far as the pepper spray being considered excessive force. The swedish police are so reluctent to use force of any kind the guy or his family must have been causing a big scene or resisting the officers.
The guy became a criminal here when he broke the law by going into hiding instead of leaving when he was supposed to and doing things the right way like he should have. If he can't respect the laws of the country he's trying to live in, he shouldn't have a problem with the law authority coming to get him.
I'm an immigrant too, as are most of us on this forum. I was here with my boyfriend and we tried to turn in the paperwork from here so I wouldn't have to leave again.
The migration board said I needed to return home and complete the process there. Respecting the laws of sweden, where I have choosen to live, I returned to my country, filed the papers, got approved, then came back.
Let me put it in this way. Imagine that you are a police officer, and you have all the power in your baggage; Law, pepper spray, gun, bullet… you find out about a criminal in the city hall, who is going to married (the guy in this case is not criminal, even in law crimes have different degrees). You drive to city hall and find him in his wedding ceremony, you are absolutely sure that the guy is in your hands before or after wedding, no matter because you are the law and you have the power and can do what is necessary to you. My question is which act sound more human to you: to arrest him before his wedding or let him wed and then arrest him? I said human to you, I am not talking about the law, you are the law!
@Tunder Bunny: The police is an arm of the Migration Board in such a case. The Migration Board rules. The Police implements. Both are part of the Department of Justice.
I used the worst considerable word of "crime" for the scenario; however, I don't believe the guy is a criminal and can't be consider as a criminal, but many comments do!
My gibberish might be somehow advance for you to understand, as a matter of fact most of the refugee case base on humanitarian reasons at least in Sweden so what "sound more human" is important, otherwise there shouldn't be any refugee case at all in this country!
Shame on you bigots. I don't want you in my country.
You are the bigot.
The problem is that once the Migration board deport those people, they come again and seek asylum. When I was in Sweden, I saw many people who got permission by this way. They were deported and they came again; they were deported again and came again; and finally they got permission after few tries. As a person, I do not want to spend my tax money to take care criminals or asylums. These types of people not only ruin their native countries, but also ruin this country like Sweden.
I am a foreigner as student but I do not like to see asylums or refugee who are illegal or come by false statements.
It doesn't really matter what you or I think. In the eyes of the law this guy is a criminal. He became one the moment he chose to not leave the country after he was told to. It is further shown by the fact that he was "in hiding."
Like I said above, imo, he should've done what I did and what most people on these forums did. We did the paperwork the LEGAL way, the right way, from our own countries. So yeah, by not concerning himself with the ruling the government pased in his case he became a criminal, and he got caught.
From eyes of law, he should be arrested and had been arrested, the duty of police had been fulfilled; but a duty can be done in different ways. The guy in this case would be arrested any way, before or after his wedding, but the question is what was so important to arrest him BEFORE his wedding, read the words of Kristersson very carefully, and then the argument of immigration board. It's the most important part in this article, not the use of pepper spray.
Do you know what city hall is? It's stadhus. To marry in city hall is like to arrange a wedding in police station. Why a man successful to be in hide, jeopardize his identity to get into city hall. To go there means to choose deportation. People don't just go to city hall to marry. It needs time reservation, identification, some guys should help and be involved, there is no way of hiding!
However what you say about what you or I think is not matter is true, because nether you nor I is Swede!
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/c...icle6966402.ece
I love the ending of the article:
I very much hope the justice will prevail and the guy will join thousands been kicked out of the country.
Merry Christmas!!
I reckon somebody told the Polis to do this, somebody who was worried that once the illegal got married then he would be able to return to Sweden.
There is some reason we don't know why he is not wanted in Sweden, he is a Terrorist maybe ?
Whatever, the Polis merely carried out their job under the Law.
