Daniel Westling, who is set to become Prince and Duke of Västergötaland when he marries Crown Princess Victoria next June, can now also add “hottest hick” of the year to his list of titles.

The honour was bestowed on Westling by Land magazine, which for the second year in a row has chosen the top 100 hotties hailing from rural Sweden (årets hetaste lantis).

The native of Ockelbo – a town of just over 6,000 people located in eastern Sweden – had a lock on Land magazine’s top spot the second Victoria accepted his proposal.

“Victoria said YES and Daniel Westling got the crown princess and the whole Duchy of Västergötland. But most of all he made Ockelbo known to royals around the world,” writes Land in its justification for bestowing its top ranking on the former gym manager.

“Talk about putting Ockelbo on the world map for a long time to come and indirectly bringing in much appreciated millions from tourists to his hometown,” the magazine continues.

Last year’s hottest hick was the manager of the Kalmar football club in southern Sweden, Nanne Bergstrand, who helped his team take home its first league championship in 2008.

I did not know that to date a swedish princess was so easy :) All the dynasties will be eliminated if princesses keep on marrying gym managers...

Must be nice for him to qualify for a title finally - Top stuff!

Why do Sweden and many other European countries still have Kings, Queens, etc ?
21:04 December 28, 2009 by peropaco
@someoneonthenet, because the proletariat like it that way. They love to be inferior...

Best of health and good fortune to them both.

Without those perceived royal heads who represent the top of the intelligent and cultured sets, and who mark well their landed gentry who represent a perception of decorum, decency, manners and good taste you are left with a country like the United States who had bush 43, who was not quite a congenital idiot but next in line for that crown. Most of the horses in Texas had more sense and manners than him.

Of course, they did not swill on bottles of whiskey as he did, before and during his pretension to the throne

Take your pick.

Doesn't he look like a young Al Franken?
01:13 December 29, 2009 by Davey-jo
@lingonberrie

Surely this post has forgotten the inbred if not positively incetuous nature of Europe's Royal families. The Hapsburgs were noted for their inbred imbecilty. Queen Victoria was a carrier of haemophilia and freely soread it throughout the dynasties of Europe. And so on It seems that maybe Sweden's Royals are outbreeding for their own good. (Incidently does he always look as if he's got a fart stuck somewhere?)

OK, G W Bush may not have been the brightest spark in the firmament but at least he was an elected idiot (if only by the Supreme Court ).

And GWB term came to an end while the retarded Bernadotte's will be there for generation to come and we have to continue supporting their lifestyle whether we like it or not.

@Rebel

He Does! Kinda look like Franken doesn't he! Maybe the princess should be warned?

I wonder if he'll be appearing in Barely Regal magazine alongside Prince Olaf of Norway?
12:50 December 29, 2009 by Roy E
country bumpkin? As opposed to what? An arrogant urban a-hole?

@Davey-Jo

If you don't already know Lingon hates anything american and blames everything bad in the world on them. She likes to pretend that americans do nothing right and europeans (swedes in particular) do nothing wrong. Take her with a grain of salt lol.

Just for the record, royals may be cultured, they're forced to be through their education, but that doesn't guarantee intelligence, good manners or good taste.

I hope things work out well for the couple. They look sweet together.

I find it rather pretentious to claim that Ockelbo would become a tourist attraction for the given reason.

Anyone notice that she looks just like him, but in drag

The crown princess visited Australia a few years ago and a more charming person it would be difficult to find. An articulate and delightful ambassador for her country. It is lovely to see two fine, young people planning to marry. I think he will be a wonderful support for this dedicated and intelligent woman.

The people of Sweden are wonderfully lucky to have a royal family like King Carl and his family. If you had George W. Bush and his family in charge you would be leaving the country for good. I am not Swedish but wish I were. I would move there in a heartbeat if there was any way of doing so. I love the IDEA of America but I HATE the way America has become, greedy, selfish, arrogant and egos run very high. You are lucky you have someone you can look up to with respect, just think if you had the British family. How much respect can you give them.............none.
