A dentist from Gothenburg in western Sweden has been reported for malpractice by a patient who claims he had the same teeth repaired dozens of times.

Two individuals have reported the dentist to the Swedish Medical Responsibility Board (Hälso- och sjukvårdens ansvarsnämnd – HSAN), claiming he committed multiple incidences of malpractice over a several-year period.

One patient said that he visited the dentist 135 times in six years. During these visits, the dentist fixed one tooth 71 times, another 59 times and a third 51 times.

The patients claim that they were ashamed to go another dentist because of their bad teeth, and that the accused dentist promised them treatments, paid for by his insurance, which he never performed.

About a year ago, the patients turned to the odontological department at Gothenburg University, where it was determined that the dental work by the original dentist had been done extremely poorly.

The dentist had already received a warning from HSAN in 2007. He never replied to the authority's request for a statement and patient records.

The Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen) has found no evidence that the man was a practicing dentist.

Brush your teeth, people.

hahah as if ppl dont brush :) i had a tooth ache and till now i went to the dentist like 8 times over a period of a year and something and currently the tooth is not done and its impossible to change dentist here , its like if you get one you are stuck all over your life with him or her.My dentist is like 65 yr old who cannt see properly and she shivers am afraid she got parkinson too and over confident as if patients are dumb. Everytime i ask for another doctor they say yes we will change and then on the appointment they say we are sorry only this doctor is available which is ofcourse the old one. i hope the health system fires all imcompitent doctors.

@Brtahan: Do you live in Sweden? If so, just go to another dental clinic. You are free to visit any dentist anywhere in the country.

Fortunately I have been blessed with 2 incredible dentists in the last 10 years - even one who opened up on 28th for emergency treatments (which included me as a 27 year old crown decided to part company with me).

The dentistin this story is certainly NOT representative of the incredibly high standards I have experienced here in Sweden, especially in Bengtsfors.

We don't have to blame the poor patient, mentioned in the above story and we must take into account that he must have witnessed lots of pain during those 71 times of simply horrific mouth torture. I would blame the dentist. Why on earth that a professional ENT doctor could not think of his actions while repeating the same mistakes for quite some time? I believe that he is not fit for what he was licensed to do so.

A doctor, in whichever area of medicine, must be so kind, caring and on top of that understanding. So, this cool-dentist did not show signs of vigilance and this makes him irresponsible. However, he is still human being who can make mistakes whether it is just 1 time or a 1000 times. Let me put it that way :)

If I go to the dentist to get a tooth fixed its done the first time. There is only so much room for accepting error. I would certainly hope that most people would not let the torture of having a tooth fixed go on for that long. You would think they would have gone to another dentist at least after the first few dozen times.
