A four-year-old girl disappeared just after midnight from a New Year’s Eve party in Gustav Adolf Square in central Malmö. Police have mobilised a large number of officers to search for the girl, according to new agency TT.

“The girl has been missing for eight hours and no one has seen her yet,” said Cindy Schönström-Larsson, Malmö Police press officer. According to the police, the girl’s relatives alerted police just after 12:30 in the morning. The girl had then already been missing for approximately half an hour.

In the early hours of New Year’s morning, 20 to 20 police officers using police dogs, and officers on horseback, were mobilised in a search for the girl. The search area is concentrated around Gustav Adolf Square, where the girl was last seen, but is fanning out to a larger area, according to Schönström-Larsson.

Meanwhile, police leadership was engaged today in a meeting to determine contingency plans for the ongoing search. Police have also interviewed the girl’s relations. Police do not want to speculate about what could have happened to the girl.

Are there any pictures of the girl? If so, they need to be placed in front of the public as soon as possible.

It's very common in Sweden for families to go to the town square to see the New Year Fireworks - which according to the Police is what this family had done

However the Swedish media is reporting further statements by the Swedish Police who say that information has been given to them that leads them to suspect kidnapping. It may be that they don't want to risk a kidnapper killing a child by plastering her all over the news.

There is much wrong with losing sight of a 4 year old girl at 12 in the night in a crowded square. I hope she is found unharmed but time is against it.

This news and the associated police work is like a misleading fraud. The false picture we are given: little 4 year old swedish girl strangely abducted, police look everywhere, like in the river to see if she has drowned.

The reality: little 4 year Irakain girl taken from her Iraqian mother to her Iraqian father in Iraq. This is done by relatives and there is a well known custody conflict. The various relatives, including the mother, the father and the little girl, knows this and have spoken to each other about in on cell phones.

But oh no, swedish papers continue to write about the mystic kidnapping. And even more mysterious: swedish police CONTINUE to ask for help to look in the river etc.

Reminds Me of the film "Not Without My Daughter".

Even though this is not the same, it still comes close...

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102555/

Based on a True story. In 1984, Betty Mahmoody's husband took his wife and daughter to meet his family in Iran. He swore they would be safe. They would be happy. They would be free to leave. He lied.

Plot:

An American woman, trapped in Islamic Iran by her brutish husband, must find a way to escape with her daughter as well.
