A 36-year-old Gothenburg businessman has been charged with paying for sex after three young women knocked on his hotel room door and offered him their bodies in return for cash.

Kalmar District Court will decide later this spring whether to convict the man of breaking Swedish laws prohibiting the purchase of sexual services. As it is not illegal to sell sex, the women, aged 19-21, have not been charged with committing an offence.

The case has its origins in a girls' night out on the town in Kalmar in south east Sweden last February. Fretting over how to replenish their rapidly emptying pockets, the three woman had a discussion that resulted in them descending on a local hotel, newspaper Barometern reports.

But the women's search for a willing john got off to a poor start when the first man they approached rejected their advances and shut the door to his room.

Undeterred, the women resumed their hunt for a man with a bulging wallet and a hankering for illicit sex.

"The idea was that we would take the money and run. If that didn't work, all three of us would have sex with the man," one of the women told police.

The plan clicked into place when the second door on which they knocked yielded a business traveller who decided to let the women into his room. After haggling over a price and settling on 1,500 kronor ($210), half the amount demanded by the women, the four parties involved removed most of their clothing and began kissing and cuddling, according to the women's version of events.

But that was where the fun ended for the businessman. After assenting to the offer of a massage in the bath tub, the 36-year-old slipped into the bathroom and awaited his treatment.

Seeing the chance to flee, the women made a dash for their clothes.

"It wasn't something we had decided. Originally we had intended giving him value for money," the 21-year-old woman said, according to Barometern.

Their escape plans were scuppered however when the customer, sensing all was not well, returned to the room.

A heated exchange followed, which resulted in the three women rushing for the exit in a state of near undress. Despite telling a receptionist that the 36-year-old had tried to rape them, the women decided to return to the room where the man agreed to allow them to dress if they returned the money he had given them.

While the women all furnished the police with similar descriptions of the evening's events, the man claimed that there was nothing sexual about his encounter with the young women.

He was however unable to explain why the women were so poorly clad for the winter weather when they emerged from his hotel room.

This is stupid.

The guy paid for sex, so what.

The women were paid for sex, so what. They should be made to pay tax on it. Theyshould pay tax for working.

Also they did not supply the sevices they were paid for, so the man should sue for his money back.

The women alleged a false claim of rape. The man has the right to sue them for defamation for there insult to himself and rape victims.

Prostitution should be legalised. It should be properly regulated, so the women are safe and the clients are not ripped of.

Sweden, what an odd country i live next to...
14:31 January 7, 2010 by calebian22
It is illegal to buy, but it is not illegal to sell? Sounds like some one took a fika break when writing that law and never finished it.
14:38 January 7, 2010 by BrittInSweden
They never had sex according to either account of the events so what is he being charged for?

Surely they should be charged for theft instead?
14:39 January 7, 2010 by Beavis
Weird.. as the man clearly didnt get any sex.. his money was returned..how did he break the law?
14:52 January 7, 2010 by hjoian
as usual.....complete bollox......what kind of law

system is this??

Have the Swedish courts absolutely nothing else to do?

Some interesting points, 1500kr for 3 women aged 19-21?

! I have never purchased but that does seems really low.. even if as written above it was half priced after haggling...

will someone who does use these... ummm... services comment if the above prices are accurate?

As for the rest of the story, its really funny because it brings into focus the stupid laws of this country that were written up by fat ugly idiots.

Whats alarming is the woman cried Rape...

equally alarming the courts are still deciding to take this up or not...

Bunch of f**king morons.

Typical sexual discrimination.

First the tarts set the guy up to break the stupid law,......(which in itself is discriminatory).

Second they try to rob him or rip him off.

Third they make serious false accusations against him.

Who gets charged,......not the silly malicious tarts,...just the poor guy who was simply having a quiet night in,... till they came knocking at his door.

Swedish Law,..a free licence to commit crime, then punish the innocent.

Geez. I've beeb paying too much!
15:42 January 7, 2010 by Puffin
The guy deserves it for being a complete idiot - buying sex for 'door to door sex saleswomen' and then trying to deny it despite the fact they left his room in a state of undress :-)
16:10 January 7, 2010 by peropaco
The girls clearly had intention of ripping off the guy then they lied and claim rape; still the poor guy is the one in the hot seat.

@eZee.se , I have heard stories where young girls will give up the goods for a couple botles of cheep wine and a pack of smoke. SAD

A business man gets arrested for not having sex with three women.

Three women push for charges for not having sex with a businessman

WHO'S SCREWING WHO?
16:25 January 7, 2010 by spy
Many Swedish women roll over for a couple of drinks.
16:25 January 7, 2010 by Nemesis
@ peropaco

In Malmö last year, a guy bought me a drink and I bought him one back when talking at the bar. I thought nothing of it and being Scots-Irish it was natural to buy in rounds. We were in international company of Irish, Scots, English, Finnish and German sitting at the bar, evne though it was a mostly Swedish bar.

He thought because I accepted a drink that I was going to go home with him and have sex. He got verbal and even threatened me, before being thrown out of the bar.
16:30 January 7, 2010 by starstruck
Whilst I agree that paying for sex should be illegal and on that count he would be correctly charged. However, the three women should have been charged with theft and for the false allegations of rape which are much much more serious as, they were not underage, being forced to sell their bodies and were not trafficked in as sex slaves (the three reasons it should be the buyer who should be prosecuted as ignorance of those facts can be no excuse, also there is no point in prosecuting prostitutes as they view being caught, fined or imprisoned as an occupational hazard).

There is no innocent party in this and the women deserve to be punished harshly for their crimes especially the false rape claims, the man deserves a bit of embarrassment for paying for sex but not potentially having his life and reputation ruined and if found guilty (although in this case that would be highly unlikely) lose his freedom.
16:32 January 7, 2010 by Callidus
And these are an example of the liberated women after 40 year of feminism in Sweden?

Selling sex for money as women has always done... The only thing they have learned from feminism is new ways to cash in on men, like shouting "rape! rape!"...

And the guy is not the brightest of the lot either...

how sad...
17:00 January 7, 2010 by peropaco
@Nemesis, They guy was a complete idiot and he deserved a kick in the cojones as well. ;-)

Sweden did not make the top 25 most livable countries in a list just out and now i know partly the reason why.
18:32 January 7, 2010 by RoyceD
In a sensible country the women would be charged with Fraud, theft, false accusation and soliciting. The man's only crime in this case is being a man. What 40 year old guy turns down 3 19-21 year olds offering to have group sex for 1500kr... I mean seriously, what is the crime?

I would also charge the Judge who didn't throw this straight out of court with wasting tax payers money. The judge is supposed to be the foundation of the law and quite clearly any law that finds the man guilty is not in the public good.

And to anyone who thinks the man is guilty of a crime, name it?

My GF had a similar experience at Cafe Opera. Swedish guy buys her a drink she talks to him for a while and then goes to leave... he gets all upset and tells her that she has to have sex with him. He grabs her... ends up in a big scene (she slapped him). She told me that it has happened to her before and that a lot of Swedish men expect sex if you accept a drink from them. Unbelievable.
19:32 January 7, 2010 by G Kin
@Nemesis

I would have loved to witness you deal with this guy!

You guys have to realise that swedes do not share in that sense- And when you do accept an offer its quite an deal especially if it goes with nothing in return.

These guys felt very cheated by you girls. That is one of teh trange things about swedes.

I remember my Enhets chef at Sahlgrenska hospital where I worked as a praktikant. We were out working and he had 2 pieces of candy. He ate one and then after some time strached the other piece in his hand for me to get a piece of it. The kind of thing I did as a child in primary school...
21:14 January 7, 2010 by Nemesis
@ Mack and G Kin

I could not believe it when he called me a whore for not having sex with him. My friends literally had to restrain me. The people and the staff in that bar had never encountered a pissed of Ulster-Scot before. It took five of them to hold me long enough for the idiot to get out of the bar.

Thing is, he bought a round of drink as part of company for all of us, not just me. I bought the next round and then my male friend bought the next one. Then he leaned over and asked if we could go now. I asked where. He said back to his place and I sat looking at him. He had only previously introduced himself. I said we were waiting in the bar for the rest of my friends and he just went nuts calling em every name under the sun.

Another 5 minutes and he would have met the rest of my friends, which probably would have been a bad outcome for him.

There looks to be a mistake in that quality of life survey. Sweden got a cost of living score of 0, when every other country has 24 or greater (I know it's expensive, but not to that degree!). The cost of living score for Sweden in the 2009 index was mid-30s. Sweden has gone from overall 12th place in 2009 to around 30th in 2010, which is obviously incorrect. I emailed the editor of International Living who did the index, but no response yet.
21:59 January 7, 2010 by Mack
@Nemesis

My GF was called similarly. He grabbed her arm and twisted it. She escaped and then he was waiting by the exit while she got her coat. He was yelling at her. She slapped him and told him that even if she was for sale he was dreaming that she would sleep with him for the price of a drink. Funny thing is that she knows this about Swedes and told him when she accepted the drink that she had someone and was not interested in anything but talking.
22:28 January 7, 2010 by Renfeh Hguh
I'm not sure which is more funny, the article or the stories posted here :)

I guess that with Swedish women being on the loose side and Swedes being very "Scottish" when it comes to drinking money, I can understand their misunderstanding. Mind you it still does not excuse them for being idiots.

@Donut are you drunk? Why did you post that comment here? ;)

01:04 January 8, 2010 by dizzymoe33
So rule of thumb is when visiting Sweden do not accep a drink from a Swede unless you are willing to put out for that person?!
01:33 January 8, 2010 by Nemesis
@ Mack

A few women have said similar things to me.

My friends daughter actually beat the crap out of a guy over it and spent the night in a police station over it. He was literally dragging her by the hair out of a cafe in the middle of the day, in front of witness's. Fortunately no charges were brought against her as it was obvious the poilice officers knew the guy very well on a friendly basis as they were talking about the good family he came from.

@ Renfeh Hguh

Contrary to popular anti-scottish stereotype, Scottish people are not stingy in the pub with there drinking money.

On average Scottish people tend to be very generous and buy more rounds than most nationalities.

That I know from experience of my Scottish friends and relatives.

it's a pity that "false rape accusation" is a very common tool for spoiled teenage girls in sweden.

does anyone know if that kind of false claim gets prosecuted properly?
12:12 January 8, 2010 by gdaymatee
The sad thing is that a rape claim of other girls that may actually have been raped or attempted to be raped is not believed or perhaps not taken as seriously as it should be due to accounts such as this.

Really they should all be taught a lesson- Im sure they were a little bit drunk and that he should have perceived that, sounds like he was taking advantage of the situation. And the girls should be charged as well, at least for defamation of character.

As for the sex for drinks- Swedes don't buy drinks out of the goodness of their hearts in most cases, perhaps this is one reason Swedish girls like guys from other countries that are generous, and if they get something back its a bonus.
13:50 January 8, 2010 by tadchem
"Man charged for sex with door-to-door saleswomen" - Love the double entendre!

I guess that means he pays twice.

I am surprised that the government is trying to get money from the man when it is the women who have the excess disposable income now.
22:06 January 8, 2010 by kent
so they sluts try to ROB the man then claim RAPE it is they who should be on trial for attemped robbery and for false accusations of rape and perjury.

only when women are prosecuted for drying wolf will the culture of oh look at me im a woiman i MUST be a victim after all he is a man.

HIDING BEHIND THE COLOR OF AUTHORITY AND POINTING FINGERS IS SO WAEK AND TYPICALLY FEMALE SICK

"Undeterred, the women resumed their hunt for a man with a bulging wallet." I guess one "bulge" finances the other. At least these editors have a sense of humor!
04:30 January 9, 2010 by Per Johansson52
In Sweden women have got more power than men, you know what I mean?

The poor man was in hotel room and these hot blond fresh chicks comes in and offer hot body. of course anybody's dick would ignore the law especially when you are staying at hotel (romantic place) ?

So first punish these chicks, then punish the man for buying. But who made this man horny? these chicks now who is to blame? these chicks.

Men should change this law. Because it is in favour of girls only.
11:35 January 9, 2010 by lintexdig
business man was not smart enough. hotty blode came in to his bed and offer him what he wanted. he should have quited any deal and do what he wanted then claim that he was raped by gang of hookers. finish!

pity for blonde swedes! when things on streets didn't work, they turned to door-to-door selling. here is where the welfare state seems to have failed of equalising every ones living. i think it's better if such women lobby to abolish the 'anti-body selling law.
13:13 January 9, 2010 by Pacey
It is in the nature of Swedish Women to be gold diggers. I shouldnt be coming up with a list. And the point is the women dont compare even one bit to Italian or Spanish ones. Swedish women have no sophistication, age when they are 30, laugh like _igs. Just travel on a tram and you will see what I mean.
13:52 January 9, 2010 by Taxalien
It seems to me that the women should be brought to justice for illegally accusing someone for rape and the man for buying sex.

In one case the law is absolutely right and in the other absolutely wrong.

I leave it to you to figure out which!

18:50 January 9, 2010 by Hedley
Very simple feminist logic:

1-The men are always responsible of any sexual crimes, since they are the source of all evil!

My words will not change this country, but in my humble opinion feminist women do not have male relatives (since they are partenogenetic)
20:09 January 9, 2010 by Coalbanks
#3 - Same in Canada : Illegal to solicit but not illegal to perform unless the participants are under-age/co-erced.

The guy should sue the women for the false accusation of rape, State should prosecute them for a false accusation/wasting police resources, etc. he is the victim of fraud, theft, defamation.
05:46 January 10, 2010 by muda
does not fit theory of economy- demand and supply. sell is legal, buy is illegal. no wonder these chicks were so desperate for buyers. government should help them.
