A 30-year-old woman from western Stockholm charged with subjecting her three children to ‘torture-like abuse’ has been sentenced to 16 months in prison.

The woman was suspected of carrying out several types of gruesome acts against her young children, aged two, five, and seven respectively.

According to the indictment, the mother had stuck pieces of glass into the feet of her seven-year-old daughter and hit her five-year-old son with a broom. Both children had also been cut with nails.

When authorities took the three children into custody in June, they were dirty, hungry and covered with scabs and bruises.

In interviews with police, the children said their mother kept them locked in their apartment, depriving them of contact with the outside world.

“It doesn’t feel good in my heart. She’s not so nice, our mum; she doesn’t like us,” the seven-year-old girl told police, according to the Aftonbladet newspaper.

The children had previously been placed under state care, but the mother regained custody of them in May 2008 until her arrest in June.

The woman, who also operated a website offering advice on how to deal with cases of the “unjustified” placement of children in the custody of the state, denies the charges against her.

The district court in Solna outside of Stockholm nevertheless convicted her for gross violation of a person’s integrity (grov fridskränkning).

In addition to spending time in prison, the abusive mother was also ordered to pay each child 58,800 kronor ($8,300) in compensation.

Sounds like she blongs in a mental institution for treating her kids like that.

She should never be allowe dwihtin 100 metres of a child again after doing that to her own children.

He website should be hacked.

wow ... isn't there any feminist or post menstrual or pre menstrual or any other silly excuses that the social services and the court will accept and set her free and give her custody of children again?

Only a men dominated world would send such a woman to jail .. she obviously need care, love and help.... not time in jail!!! What is she going to learn in jail?

this is an unjustified placement of this poor woman in the custody of the state.

What is the matters with Sweden? Sixteen months? Murder - three weeks in Bermuda. Rape a month in the canary islands. Arson gets a two week cruise around the Mediterranean.

@ Nemesis

She was actually found to be mentally disturbed in the psych evaluation but not seriously enough to be sentenced to forensic psychiatric treatment.

This case has exposed a rather unfortunate weakenss in the Swedish Child protection law. The kommun had taken the kids in care - however the woman appealed and was given the kids back. The kommun tried to take the kids back into care and appealed all the way to the Supreme Court who refused to hear the kommun's case - therefore the kommun were not allowed to intervene.

The woman's lawyer says they will appeal - however the photos of where the children were living are really bad

This woman is clearly not capable of looking after children. Unfortunately just about any woman who can get pregnant can give birth. And unfortunately child abuse can go undiscovered for years on end. Lets just hope in this case the appeal will be thrown out. At least if being away from their mother for a number of years until old enough to fend for themselves, these kids may have a chance of a different life.

You dont believe whats going on in the UK, I dont know how many kids are being abused and beaten. Here they depend om charities to seek help. There is the government as well but they simply cannot cope and are regularly late with intervening. The problem here is also the responsibility issue. It is very much a blame culture if children have been hurt. If not the parents then certainly the system is being blamed.

Result, a whole lot of people tiptoeing around being afraid to take responsibility and intervene. Or stupid judges that dont listen to the people who know what is going on.

At least this one will be put away for some time, but I cant help feel for these kids. O and where is pa?? and grandma / grandpa?? or mothers siblings??

Sounds like a perfectly normal mum to me. Your brats are getting on your nerves so give them a beating; why not? Natural isn't it?

Hey !!. There is something fishy. Proper investigation should be made as authorities seem to biased. She used to run website against authorities as quoted by report.

That is filthy, sick and disgusting (the pics). And torture your own children is just horrible...actualy, torture anybody, but in this case is just to heavy.

She's mentaly sick.... she must be. Not excusing her, but that's the only explanation for this.

Those poor kids! Talk about a tough start. I hope they get loads of love and care that they should rightfully have had from the very start. Totally tragic story.

As for the mum - mentally unstable or not - lock her up and throw away the key.

Better still - give me the key... I'd like to do to her what she did to those children!!!! In fact, as she seems so prone to having children - sterilize her! She's so clearly incapable of looking after kids - take away any opportunity of her ever torturing kids again!

Mental or not - there is absolutely zero excuse for this type of abuse. We have zero tolerance for drink driving, we should have zero tolerance for child abuse.
