A 59-year-old man has been arrested for using his ex-wife's musophobia to wreak cruel revenge for their break up after he pushed 19 mice through her letter box on Sunday morning.

"She was scared out of her wits and is now being cared for in hospital," said Lars Lisberger at Stockholm police.

The jilted ex-husband has been arrested on suspicion of unlawful threats and animal welfare offences.

Knowing that his ex-wife suffered from musophobia - an unreasonable and disproportionate fear of rats and mice - the man arrived at her apartment in the northern Stockholm suburb of Märsta in the early hours of Sunday morning bearing a paper bag full of mice.

The 37-year-old woman awoke to find the scampering murines in her apartment and called the police at 7.30am.

Police arrested the man and took him in for questioning.

The nineteen mice captured at the woman's apartment are also being housed at the police station pending the advice of the county veterinarian.

According to the Aftonbladet newspaper, the man has demanded the return of his mice.

"He has treated both the mice and his ex-wife badly, so I do not think that he should be given any of them. But we shall have to wait and see what the authorities decide," Lars Lisberger told the newspaper.

Poor things......I will take them. The authorities are crazy if they give the mice back to the guy. She or even he could have killed them.
14:36 February 1, 2010 by rybo1
Quite frankly, this is hilarious. Good thing he didn't shove rats through the brevlåda!
14:44 February 1, 2010 by this_aint_sparta
xykat can take the mice and i can take the wife, hence resolving the issue.

"He has treated both the mice and his ex-wife badly, so I do not think that he should be given any of them. But we shall have to wait and see what the authorities decide,"

they will keep the mice and hand over the wife....

haha. I'm not sure if this story is actually 'news', but it is funny!
15:02 February 1, 2010 by Farsiwan
oh lord.....he should have cooked those mice to his wife and post them in the pizza box
15:28 February 1, 2010 by peropaco
@this_aint_sparta. You take the wife? considering this guy is 59 years old. One can easily assume the wife (gammal tant) is somewhere in that age neighborhood so go for it mate. LOL.
15:35 February 1, 2010 by Jimmy
He is 59 and she is 37, wonder do you call that? Did he run out of money?

Punish him for cruelty to animals and let him off for posting them. No matter how old you are you can still come up with novel ideas
15:36 February 1, 2010 by Rutkowski
@peropaco, she is 37 according to the story.
15:45 February 1, 2010 by dockmandock
He deserves to be burnt at the stake.
16:35 February 1, 2010 by peropaco
@Rutkowski. I missed that. Yet, if she is 37 and married to a 59 yo and living in Märsta, I can bet she look at least 51 making her an alter bok.
16:38 February 1, 2010 by Keith #5083
no wonder she's his 'ex'. I bet his name is even 'Mickey'.
16:40 February 1, 2010 by Henckel
The mouse in the picture looks like a rather elderly one.
17:43 February 1, 2010 by sissygirl
I think it's all rather funny. The most hilarious part is he wants his mice back. But really, aren't there more newsworthy stories?
18:15 February 1, 2010 by mannorun
@xykat and @this_aint_sparta

I think you guys have the perfect solution to this problem. So i do not see any need for the police or lawyers likewise the court.hhahahahaahha.

And @this_aint_sparta don't bother about what @peropaco said, just go for it mate, hahhahaahahhahah!!!

A friend of mine came up with a more original revenge. His ex got his sports car in the settlement. A couple of months after the divorce was final he put a stray cat which he had fed raisens to in the car over the weekend with a plentiful supply of raisen laced food and water. When she opened the door the cat fled but left a considerable residue behind. She ended up scrapping the car. No way to get the odor out of leather and vinyl.
23:05 February 1, 2010 by GLO
Ill take the mice, we have two very large cats...jum-yum..
23:47 February 1, 2010 by Da Goat
I can't see where he mistreated the mice???

there is no evidence of mistreatment Though the police capturing them would be mistreatment for sure! (they would be scared shitless)

I think this is the best story ever his only mistake was not recording the madness caused when she awoke that would be classic you-tube hit for sure ROFL

Animal cruelty naahhh they would be loving a nice new warm cosy place to live but they would move out coz the new neighbour is much to noisy LOL

CLASSIC

Brilliant - he must have been really upset with her - no doubt she was seeing someone else like 99% of them do

Cruelty isn't being shoved thru a mail slot. It's have a photo of you trying to grunt one out posted for the whole net to see. Cheeze.
04:19 February 2, 2010 by wantedangel
OMG!!! I'm a female and I think this is farking hysterical!!!! It was a novel idea! I don't think the husband should be arrested though. Maybe cruelty to animals but I don't think he hurt the mice. Or maybe for harrassment but nothing further.
10:11 February 2, 2010 by Xcellent
the mouse in the picture looks like hes constipated.
14:08 February 2, 2010 by izbz

16:35 February 2, 2010 by E.Coli

HA HA HA fantastic you would think the Police would have better things to do than go after this what a waist of tax payer money to take this to cort. Besides I am wondering if may be the wife deserved it? who knows she might have been Emoationaly abusive to him for years? WE don't know all the story now do we. But bottom line this is Funny as hell. I say way to go Jilted hubby!!!!!

"He has treated both the mice and his ex-wife badly, so I do not think that he should be given any of them."

Ahahaha this article has totally made my morning. I guess the distance between the mail slott and the floor for the mice to fall must have been too severe a jump for Swedish animal rights laws to ignore...

God bless those Sergels Torg kids and roundabout forms of prosecution!
