With inflation at 5% per annum it will take just over 14 years for prices to double. So a 153% increase over 19 years is just about keeping ahead of inflation (assuming an average rate of 5%).
Now when we throw in refurbishments, renovations and a general improvement in the standard of buildings, fittings and in-house utilities I think we can safely say that these house prices have not outpaced inflation.
