Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt retains his position at the top of the party leader board in a new survey on voter confidence while support for opposition leader Mona Sahlin continues to decline.

Fifty percent of people expressed faith in Reinfeldt in the latest Synovate poll, published in newspapers Dagens Nyheter and Sydsvenskan.

Reinfeldt dropped four percentage points from the last survey, conducted in November 2009, but maintains a five percent lead over his closest rival, Green Party spokesperson Maria Wetterstrand.

Wetterstrand’s popularity continues to rise, up seven percentage point to 45 percent. The 36-year-old has shared the Green Party leadership role with Peter Eriksson since 2002.

The Greens are making new ground together as voters expressed increased faith in Eriksson, up four percentage points to 26 percent.

He is now on a equal footing with Social Democrat and opposition leader Mona Sahlin who has fallen five percentage points since to also claim 26 percent of voter support.

The survey adds that 54 percent of Social Democrat supporters continue to back their party leader.

For Sahlin, the so-called balance of confidence – the number of voters with the strongest support minus the number with the lowest - now stands at just 11 percent.

Synovate analyst Nicklas Källebring told DN this is a “nightmare situation” for Sahlin.

“She is losing support among voters with just six months left to her first election as candidate for Prime Minister," he said.

"And among the Social Democrat voters, support has reached an all time low and remains far weaker than other party leaders' position among their own.”

The Centre Party’s Maud Olofsson also continued to lose support, down five percentage points to 27 percent, alongside Liberal Party leader Jan Björklund who dropped two percentage points to 23 percent.

The Christian Democrats Göran Hägglund (25 percent) and Left Party Leader Lars Ohly (22 percent) both received a 2 percentage point increase of support.

Synovate interviewed 1,015 people during the period March 15th-18th.

Ms. Ask has convinced to find a Social Democrat and donate to their campaign, lick envelopes...whatever. I love Sweden too much to let right wing nuts destroy it. I've been activated. Free speech, no spying on private persons, and no censorship of legal information.

Something learned from the States--politicians who cry the loudest about sex, gays, etc. are almost always the most egregious offenders to the very sex morals they publicly proclaim. I wonder what Ms. Ask has in her closet?
15:09 March 20, 2010 by Newyork-Växjö
That is because of her recent comments about Turkish pm and about Burka ban?

and at the same time Fredrik is gaining because he is against both issue...

I think the Mona Sahlin party would be on loss and Fredrik would win again but later would change his mind and agree with this two issues. It is political game!

Current govt. guided Sweden through the Financial Crisis very well - with the result that Sweden emerged from the crisis as one of the most robust economies of Europe (check the Economists projections of growth and sovereign risk). Surely a government that can achieve that in the face of one of the biggest economic upheavals since the 30's deserves to keep the reins of power for a second term.

What would we have got from Social Democrats instead...the standard answer...raise taxes, raise taxes and raise more taxes.
19:02 March 20, 2010 by StuartM
If the government has handled the crisis so well then why does Sweden have the highest youth unemployment in Northern Europe - I believe up to 30% for young males of a certain age? And why are young people rioting and burning cars in towns and cities all over Sweden? Total unemployment has almost doubled from 5.4% to 9.3% since the Social Democrats left office in 2006.

G-man469 Are you for real? she sliders, and she is a waste of space.

Social Democrats and V party = Bidrag and high taxes, decreased disposable income, reduce growth, spending which in turn stimulates the local economy, how is that good for Sweden, or is the bidrag part you are mostly interested? If so I´m not surpised, there are doers and leechers, I wonder which group you fall under.
15:55 March 21, 2010 by uunbeliever
@ rugla Spending stimulates the economy? Are you an idiot? Taxes should be higher! What needs to be removed is the morons who spend more money than they have and people on neverending "sick" benefits. If you can't afford a new SAAB or Citroen, don't buy one! If you can't work because you have been tired for 5 years, maybe think about therapy.

Vive la vänster comrades!!!!

PS don't blame immigrants for bidrag scams, I know way more Swedes who abuse the system.
18:43 March 21, 2010 by rugla
Perhaps you should go to school for free courtesy of my taxes and educate yourself, if you are taxed less you have more disposable income, thus spending more locally and stimulating the economy simple.

It will also increase savings and planning for ones future, under the current structure the average middle class family has little left to save and you want to tax more?

Raising taxes more only promotes, cheating or tax evasion and the people who can afford more than a Saab, and then some will take their money abroad and invest elsewhere, as the country they are born in is being ruined and abused by ridiculous left ideals of equality, which they only oppress and promote mediocre performance as imbeciles like you who believe in communism as an ideal which has never worked and will never work.

The only correct statement you make is that indeed people should not buy more than they can afford, and abuse the system, I´m also not blaming immigrants but Swede´s alike that cheat the system and lack the back bone to get ahead without expecting that mother Sweden should provide for them as it is their right, it is a privilege, and people should carry their own weight, and not expect that the people who made it should take the brunt for their laziness.

Your thought process only weakens society , show some backbone and character go create something, make a ton of money, have a big wet bite taken out of your but each and every month and see the very services your mighty taxes pay for continue to deteriorate due to mismanagement overspending and abuse, by the very people you promote.
22:14 March 21, 2010 by uunbeliever
@Rugla touche. I do go to university here and pay my share of taxes. The problem with communism, and socialism and capitalism, are the people who abuse the system. Gov officials, hoarders osv. It is people like you who need to spend your "disposable" income on garbage who think the answer is more spending. Big business take their money elsewhere because we, the voters, vote for imbeciles who let them go while lining their pockets. . ..end of rant. I do create, I teach and I don't need a ton of money to feel special and I will continue to believe in a system that supports and cares for all, not just moneymakers.

Yes the Swedish people are smarter than the press. Just go into any press operation in Sweden and by far the majority (reporters) vote to the left or far left. All their articles are from that point of view. So the press (Sveriges Radio, large newspapers) cannot be happy with this voter poll. They better print more articles demonizing Reinfeldt. How about this article for Easter: "Reinfeldt hates bunny rabbits."
10:36 March 22, 2010 by rugla
@unbeliver We agree thus far about the problems of communism, abuse, and crooked politicians, hoarders, etc.

So why promote this crap? Vanster partiet, and Social democrats what a bunch of two faced idiots, equality my a..s, they want to live like upper class, but have big government pay for all services and take the bit out of others whilst they kick back and not lift their own weight.

So what if some people spend at least they stimulate the local economy, small and large businesses, and others save, however when you tax them to death, what means do they have to do so, and who will benefit? The abusers, the people you vote for! Yet the people you hurt are the average families who carry their own weight and receive for their hard earned tax crowns a deficient service, infrastructure, and poor standard of living, which should be for the amount of taxes paid the envy of the world but it is not due to abuse and inefficiency.

I agree we need to lend a hand to care for others who can´t, but the system is flawed, top down, and the people you endorse are key contributors of that.

Flatten the tax to 40% quite fair, crack down on abuse, reduce inefficiencies which we have many and get the system to start working again, as it is now life is too easy for people to kick back and let others take care of them, abuse is rampant thorough out the system.

As for the teaching part I hope to god your crappy ideals do not taint the thought process of the students you have the privilege or lecturing, because there is something seriously screwed up in that head of yours.
12:40 March 22, 2010 by uunbeliever
@Rugla, you and I should rule the world . . .my communist ideals go only so far that we sould all take care of each other, not just the elite few, and change comes through revolution, not waiting and whining about problems. I do not endorse ANY government with wealthy officials who live on estates and change pension laws for their wifes (remember that one?).

Again, all ideals in theory work fine until you add the factor of greedy people. Why can't a central system of distribution work? Because some ignoramus has to hoard stuff and do favours for their friends.

Communism works just fine as long as there are no people involved. . .There is nothing screwed up in my head by the way. . .

I believe that children are our future

Teach them well and let them lead the way

Show them all the beauty they possess inside

Give them a sense of pride to make it easier

Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be
