This poor prisoner might have a medical condition called irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It is estimated that about 30% of North American population suffered from this syndrome (probably similar number in Sweden have this condition) suffer from this condition silently. For some unknown reason the nerves and muscles in the person's stomach are extra sensitive. They contract too much when he eats. These contractions can cause cramping diarrhea or conceptions during or shortly after meal, followed by several liters of gas.
IRS is not a disease. It is a condition.
The prisoner is farting because that is his only way of releasing his gas. He has to go to a doctor to be advised what food to avoid. Food such as fatty food and milk products should be avoided.
Under this circumstances ignorance is not "bliss".
They sure got a nose for a good storey.
He's reported as only being 21-years-old. He gassed the guards to voice his discontent towards the system. He was subconsciously seeking help from them.
Sort it out so we can all live in peace and fresh air.
